Southern beat Champion Baptist tonite, 116 - 12. Yes, that's right by 104 pts. I'm not sure I really believe that. |

http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com...cheduling-them/ http://college-basketball.si.com/2013/12/3...aptist-college/ http://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball...etball-southern Just a few of the sites talking about the game.......whew!! UNO beat them 101 - 38. and led 51-12 at half. Sless emptied the bench and everyone scored. Sless looked for you in the stands to put you in but you weren't there and Steve was occupied at the game (I was too old....)

I'm a little annoyed with the tsk-tsk'ing going on from the national writers who hadn't heard of this sorry group until tonight. Their coach is from Louisiana and insists on bringing his team here over and over again. I think we should stop scheduling them because nobody benefits from just running unguarded layup drills against a joke team, but this guy Capici is insisting on taking this punishment. UNO, Southeastern, Southern, etc. are not the bad guys here, just not selective enough in who they schedule. Enough's enough, though. |

Just saw the Worldwide Leader's coverage of this massacre. ESPN did point out the school has an enrollment of 250, and the school's president is the men's basketball coach, if that's any excuse. Just a team that should find other places to play, that's all I'm saying. |

This is a team we should schedule when we're a homeless, division-less team, but not anymore. It's a little hard to believe how many DI schedules they're on now. We never played anyone who was not at least DIII or NAIA before our period in the wilderness. During that period, we were forced into these other areas for opponents, but those days should probably end now. If we're scheduling a game or two outside DI, I'd certainly rather see Dillard, SUNO, Xavier, Loyola, Millsaps, Centenary, etc., than anyone outside the NCAA and NAIA. Can we be paying Champion Baptist less money than a local NAIA from the city? Even if so, I'd think the money is better spent elsewhere |

Dunno... every time I Google searched them before yesterday I found them repeatedly identified as NAIA, but now that everyone's doing their homework on them, it seems that is not the case. Incidentally, their school web site has crashed from the onslaught of attention. It has been down since last night. I would love to know the sorry outfit that Champion Baptist actually beat (they have a win, presumably over the Biddy Ballers that played in the NOrena at halftime of Pels-Blazers last night). There are, however, plenty of NAIA teams around here if Capici feels the need to travel to Louisiana 47 times a season. No idea why he likes to take massive beatdowns against D1s. I assume the payoffs from the UNOs of the world are extremely minimal. I guess some people are gluttons for punishment. From our perspective, though, you need to schedule rent-a-wins that are, at minimum, good enough where you have to actually play the sport of basketball against them. Champion Baptist does not meet that standard. |

This Article titled "Who is Champion Baptist College and why are D-I programs scheduling them?" states "Champion Baptist College — located in Hot Springs, Arkansas — is an unaccredited four-year Christian vocational college associated with Gospel Light Baptist Church. The Tigers are an independent member of the Association of Christian College Athletics." |

Hmm, maybe the payouts aren't as minimal as I thought, though I can't imagine it's actually anywhere near 50 grand. |

From a YAHOO article concerning the Southern-Champion Baptist game: "I had Division I coaches call me last night and apologize," Capaci said. "The coach of the University of New Orleans actually texted me and said, 'Call if you need to talk.' He said, 'We got beat by Michigan State by 54 points the other night and we're a Division I school.'" Coach Slessinger is a class act. |

ABSOLUTELY, and not just because of this most recent example. The man walks the walk and everything I've read about how he lives his life, his family, runs the team etc, backs this up. |
