NEW ORLEANS, La. – New Orleans native and current Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington will be the guest speaker for the New Orleans Privateers Baseball Dugout Club membership interest meeting on Thursday, January 9 at 5:00 p.m. in the Privateer Room at Lakefront Arena.

Washington, who guided the Rangers to back-to-back American League pennants in 2010 and 2011 has won 611 games in his first seven seasons, and has notched 90 or more wins in four consecutive years.

Joining Washington in attendance will be former Privateer standout and current Kansas City Royals infielder Johnny Giavotella. Giavotella batted .363 from 2006-08 with the Privateers, tallying 32 home runs and 172 RBI. He has had three different stints in the Majors with the Royals, and has appeared in 113 games.

Privateers Head Coach Ron Maestri will serve as host of the event. Those interested in joining the Dugout Club are encouraged to attend, and all guests will receive complimentary tickets for the New Orleans vs. Abilene Christian basketball doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

It bugs me that we're having Ron Washington here as some prized special guest after the way that he and the Rangers organization handled Joey Butler.

One wonders if the "awww isn't he cute getting to play with a bunch of big leaguers for a few days" attitude the Rangers showed Joey Butler will carry over to this. Are we adorable for giving this D1 thing another shot? Maybe we can even score a run against LSU sometime! Wowee!

Okay, okay, I guess it's pretty cool that Ron Washington's here and all, but yeah, the Butler/Rangers thing does rankle.
