Must have missed something. Why is ORU basically forfeiting these games?

Found my answer here...apparently a few SLC teams are forfeiting to UIW and ACU to remain NCAA compliant. Odd, but understandable I guess.

It's a weird phenomenon going around college basketball this season. The rule states that you can't play more than four games against non-DI competition. That includes preseason exhibition games. Apparently, there are many programs across the country that are, or will be, in violation of this rule this season.

Where the SLC is concerned, they made Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian count in the conference standings even though the NCAA still classifies them as DII teams this season. If ORU had played both games, they would have committed an NCAA violation by playing six non-DI's. So the games are officially cancelled, but for SLC standing purposes they act like forfeits.

It's a mess.

Now it appears like the NCAA will possibly allow the games to be played, granting a waiver on the scheduling requirements, where it contains the "technically a DII team, but they're in a DI league" situation.

Oral Roberts is in Abilene ready to play ACU tomorrow if they get the clearance from the NCAA by then. Crazy.

What a day in Southland hoops. Four games decided by a total of eight points. UNO loses by seven. Aaaand Lamar loses by 26. The McNeese, Abilene, and Corpus Christi games all ended with a ball in the air at the horn and they all ended within minutes of each other. The ORU win came down to a jumper with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. Incredible slate of games today.
