That's neat. Has to be the first time two Privateers homered in the same MLB game, right? |

David Burch tweeted that it was like an old UNO intrasquad game. Which is true! Pretty awesome to think about if you went to any fall ball games circa 2007. Those were a little sneak preview of last night's Angels-Rays game. Ha! |

Two more knocks and two stolen bases last night in a Rays win in Seattle. Guys...this is getting pretty serious. Joey Butler is now batting .348! OPS of .927!! It's still a small sample size, but he is nearing 100 at bats so it isn't like it's just a two week hot streak. His numbers had him in serious contention for AL Rookie of the month. He has been legitimately awesome and watching him every day it doesn't one bit look like a fluke. |

It's been fun watching Joey and Johnny's progress with the Rays and the Angels. Until basketball season rolls around, at least we have some UNO excitement, albeit with ex-Privateers. |

Joey must not have enough at bats to qualify in the MLB stats, but he's now at #5 in all of Major League Baseball! |

According to MLB baseball, a player needs 3.1 plate appearances per game to appear in the official stats listings. Since the Rays have played 65 games, Joey would need 201 PAs. Joey now has played in 37 games with 128 PAs. There is also an 0fer rule (10.22a in MLB), but I won't attempt to explain that. |

Both Johnny and Joey homered in their games tonight. The Angels and Rays both won. |

Happy for the homer, if not the win, for Butler. The Rays took 3 of 4 (1 of 2 in Tampa, both in DC) from my Nats. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend either of the two games here in DC.

Three of Joey's five homers have been to the opposite field. He strikes out a ton but absolutely clobbers the ball when he hits it. He will never maintain a .331 average in the majors over the long term (or even .300+ at all), but he is also barely walking in the majors. Over time I'd expect the average to come down pretty significantly but the OBP less so. He has a better batting eye than his small-sample MLB numbers suggest, though he swings through a lot of pitches. Even when his numbers stabilize, he will be, at the very least, what I always thought he was -- a very competent MLB-level fourth outfielder. Incredible that it took until age 28 for anyone to give him any sort of look. Sports is as close as it gets to a true meritocracy but if Joey didn't have a personal connection with TB manager Kevin Cash, he'd still be filler on some random AAA team putting up nice numbers and being too old to be considered a prospect. I assume Chris Archer will get the Rays' all-star nod but if Joey continues this pace and Archer can't go for whatever reason... |

Another home run for Joey tonight against Cleveland. Steve, it was opposite field. |

Privateer6, were you lucky enough to be at the near perfect game on Saturday? So close, but a no-hitter is still pretty good! |

Unfortunately, no. What an amazing run for Scherzer -- last two outings: at Milwaukee -- 9.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 HBP, 16 K vs Pittsburgh -- 9.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 10 K His ERA is now down to 1.76.

Joey Butler breaking up a no-hitter with the Rays down to their final strike was just one of the most exciting things I've watched. Haha. Atta boy, JoJo. |

With the MLB no-hitter Domino's promotion, Joey Butler just cost 20,000 people free pizza, and Twitter now despises him. Hilarious! |

Video: http://m.mlb.com/tb/video/?content_id=2177...3487246&c_id=tb Carlos Carrasco lost a no hitter but probably made a lot of fans because of his reaction. Great job by Joey. |

Joey's in a slump. 3 hits in the last 27 at bats. Average down to .306. I hope that he can pull out of it. I think that Steve jinxed him. Ouch...0 for 4 today with 4 Ks. The announcer said that teams are beginning to get a book on Jory's tendencies and weaknesses. Looks like it's working. 3 for 30 now. |

The Rays completely gave up on Joey after his slump -- he barely played even as they played out the string in September with no postseason hopes. Got the start on the last day of the season though, and crushed two homers, including a grand slam, and had 3 hits and 6 RBI. He is unquestionably a major league caliber fourth outfielder and a good pickup for a team that is a little weak in the outfield. I think it's pretty clear that won't be the Rays, though. |
