I listened last night and it was good to hear someone talking Privateer Basketball again. I heard last night that Colton W(can't remember the spelling) transferred to Lamar. I take it he has to sit out this year and will only have one year of eligibility left is that correct? Nice job guys. Lets get this board rolling again! |

Can't wait to see how they look. Will stream the game at Hurricanes Sports Bar (1414 Veterans Hwy) this Saturday if anyone wants to come watch them take on Bowling Green. Hope this is the start of a great year. |

Sorry to see him go. HE wasn't great but he sure hustled under the basket last year when it seemed no one else wanted to. Seems like he just went home. http://www.lamarcardinals.com/news/2015/11...spx?path=mbball |

Weisbrod had a son last year and they moved back to Beaumont. He's playing this season at a lower division school in the area, then will have two seasons at Lamar starting next year. I was excited about his potential. I wish him well at Lamar. As I mentioned on the podcast, if I'm rooting for anyone in the league besides UNO it's Tic and Lamar. I wish Colton and his family well. |

Colton Weisbrod, the 2014 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A Player of the Year, is planning to leave the University of New Orleans after his freshman season and hopes to resume his basketball career at either Lamar University or Lamar State College-Port Arthur. The 6-5, 215 Weisbrod, a graduate of Nederland High School, reported Tuesday he will no longer attend UNO after the current semester. He has been given a release by UNO which clears him to talk to coaches at other schools. NCAA rules require that players who transfer from one Division I school to another to sit out one season before becoming eligible. If the new school is in the same conference — Lamar and UNO are both in the Southland — the player must sit out two years. Lamar, however, could apply for a hardship waiver because of the circumstances surrounding Weisbrod’s return home. If Lamar requested a hardship on Weisbrod and got it, he would only have to sit out one year. If a hardship request is denied, Weisbrod could enroll at LSC-PA and be able to play immediately. He would have one season of eligibility with the Seahawks, then would have to decide whether he wanted to go to LU, sit out a year and play the following two years. His other option after LSC-PA would be to transfer to a school outside the Southland Conference. Provided his grades were in order, he’d be immediately eligible. Weisbrod’s decision to move back home followed the news that his girlfriend is expecting a child in mid-April. He is dating former Lumberton basketball standout Allison Jacks. Jacks set the Texas state record for made three pointers as a senior at Lumberton and was on scholarship at UNO before announcing she would leave the university last December. “At first, we were unsure what we would do,” Weisbrod said. “We didn’t know if we wanted to raise our kid in New Orleans or back in Nederland. Allison made her decision to not go back to UNO. She didn’t want to play basketball anymore and wanted to become a full time mother. “I only made it home two or three times during the season last year, so that would mean maybe five days with my child. This really is not about basketball. I want to be there for my kid and I want to be there to raise my kid. It is the same reason Allison left school.” Weisbrod averaged seven points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.6 minutes a game as a freshman at UNO this past season. A late season injury curtailed his playing time and lowered his average. Weisbrod has stated in the past former Lamar basketball coach Pat Knight never made contact with him during the recruiting process. It left the Cardinals out in the cold when he chose to attend a rival Southland Conference school. Now Weisbrod could eventually make LU coach Tic Price a very happy camper. “I have talked to some coaches,” Weisbrod said. “There is also the chance I could go play at Lamar Port Arthur, if Lamar University doesn’t have a scholarship and I want to save some money. We will cross that bridge when we get there.” Price said that could not comment on Weisbrod at this point in time. It is no secret, however, that Price loved the way Weisbrod played in high school and lamented the fact he never got a chance to recruit him. Weisbrod averaged 26.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per game as a senior at Nederland and scored a Bulldogs Classic record 48 points against Alvin. He had 26 double-doubles his senior year. Weisbrod finished his Nederland career on a monster tear through the playoffs that ended with the Bulldogs in the Class 4A Regional Tournament. He averaged 30 points in four playoff games, highlighted by 41 against Beaumont Ozen in the regional quarterfinals. ——— ©2015 The Port Arthur News (Port Arthur, Texas) |

I wish Colton the best. I liked his hustle, but he really didn't show he a whole lot except when he was under the basket. I don't recall that he had much of a jump shot. I wonder where all of those points came from in high school. |

Haha..that one's on me. I had a longer intro of classic UNO calls (Garris, Kwan, etc) on early episodes. Last year I switched to a shorter clip of some random blues guitar. My older macbook finally gave out a few months back. I didn't get my computer situation up and running again until very recently, barely in time to even get this week's episode posted. I'll make something that works soon. Hopefully in time for the next one. The opening to William Tell will probably find a home in there somewhere, that's a good idea.

Well, I opened my NEW ORLEANS Advocate this morning, expecting to see some small pithy write up on today's game. Let's see, Saints coverage, check..LSU/Alabama stories (still), check...high school playoffs (Chalmette loses to Landry-Walker, ...sigh), check...Tulame lost to Alabama A&M in OT (I'm surprised this made it, considering time deadlines), check... No UNO coverage, sigh. I realize ESPN3 is not a major network, but come on guys, give us a little mention to start the year, please? We can be easily ignored in a couple of weeks. |

First four minutes of the season were a mess. Shot selection is, uh, interesting so far. |

Down 14-2. Not by luck -- most UNO shots have been either long 2s or very long 3s, many early in the shot clock. Suboptimal shot selection to say the least. |

Well I only tuned in with about 4 mins left in the first half........guys seem to be hustling but the 3 is open a lot for BG and UNO seemed to miss quite a few FT's late....but again I only saw 4 mins. |
