We've seen this before! Lots of one-on-one play and leaving a lot of points at the FT line. 3 assists, 9 turnovers. Down 37-27 at half. Doing a better job getting to the line than BG, though. UNO has the advantage so far regarding the new super-ticky-tack foul calling in college hoops this season.

Game could absolutely be won with a solid second half of basketball but we haven't really shown any signs of that yet. BG looks pretty rough.

Positives: Christavious Gill (10 points) though he's also throwing up some insane shots. We need more going to the hole, fewer NBA three attempts! Kevin Hill looks like he's been in the gym a lot this summer.

Supposedly it is a point of emphasis in college hoops this year to call fouls by the rule book, the idea being that players will adjust, there will be less grabbing and impeding offensive movement, and offense will flourish. What will actually happen is that, after a month of foul-ridden games that are just endless marches to the FT line, the officiating will gradually loosen up because no one wants to see games that look like UNO at Nicholls January 2014.

Is it me or is UNO missing LOTS of layups (and what looked like an easy alley oop)? Some of the layups were point blank. First game jitters?

I like the hustle tho.

This is EXACTLY what they tried to do last year with the hand check rule until players, coaches and fans pretty much had enough and complained.
The refs don't need to be the main point of the game....the players do.........but I guess they don't want my opinion.

If they could've pulled off an alley-oop with Danny Cohen on the receiving end that would've been impressive. I'd hope being a veteran team that's played together might allay first game jitters, especially against an inexperienced team. Tevin Broyles is out for some reason that nobody's mentioned, but it's a giant deficit at this point. Can't find much of anything positive about this one to this point.

79-61 final. Honestly the most impressive thing of the game might have been a pretty dish from Erik Thomas to Mbodj to complete a fast break on the last play of the game. I was waiting for one of our guys to pass on a fast break and it finally happened.

BG struggled mightily to beat a sub-D1 team in exhibition play, and they didn't look particularly impressive but still had no trouble with the Privateers.

Don't think any of the newcomers had much of an impact except for Thomas a bit. Gill had his points and Kevin Hill had his rebounds, and Zeno did several good things but also fouled out in 11 minutes. Nate Frye was awful but we know he's much better than that at least.

Well several things concern me after watching this: WAY too many fouls called and some silly ones made by UNO. Also, the number of missed layups and ft's is very disconcerting even for the first game. This is the same problem UNO had last year. Too many guys have played together for 2-3 years for this to still be the case.
And even tho BG took way too many 3 ptrs, we left them open too many times to do so.

Ft %65 % (but it was in the 50's until the last few mins)
FG% 35.5%. that's awful

And this against a very mediocre team it would seem.

I like Gill's aggressiveness and hope he continues this and to shoot more.

PS. A few of our guys need to eat a few extra happy meals. They're way too thin to go up against some of the beef they'll face :o
