I've found it. Maybe too late but it seems that after a 9 pt lead, some silly stuff has been happening......some ill timed shots, unnecessary fouls and a few missed FT's but still hanging in there. FORTUNATELY, Bradley's shots are awful or just not falling. |

I LOVE the defense but can anyone on this team hit a damned FT? This has been the BIGGEST most CONSISTENT weakness on EVERY Schless team. I refuse to believe that after all these years, it's the players.....it must not be practiced or coached....ENOUGH! These things lose you games more times than they win them for you. |

First road non-conference win in what seems forever. Hit baskets consistently in 2nd half to not let the butterflies get to us. Great win. |

well, that wasn't pretty but an UGLY win is still a W. Bradley is a B.A.D. bad bad team. But winning on the road is still big for UNO at this point. Neither team impressed. Both teams were ugly and despite only 14 turnovers for both teams, it looked MUCH sloppier than that. I believe that 3 ptrs probably won this game for us tonite. Starting out at 20% ft at the half, UNO got it up to 58% but even that is unacceptable...and despite Jude's comments that UNO has been practicing them, it's obviously waaaaaayyyy too little. It's pathetic, frankly. And at this level, it should be made even more important. Make them shoot 250 a day, each. and if they hit less than 65%, then they shoot 100 more. And overall FG percentage needs to go up as well. At least the defense seemed to be in good form tonite. And for the most part, rebounding was even. |

Any double digit win on the road is great, although Bradley really looked like a dumpster fire. Their results so far indicate they can't score against anybody, but still nice to force an opponent to shoot 32%. Interestingly though Bradley's one win so far was a 54-53 home win over future (Dec 5) UNO opponent Ball State. Frankly this is probably the Southland's most impressive win so far (as far as I know), which is really saying something, but way to go Privateers! |

Yea, coach didn't use the words dumpster fire but he did say it was as ugly as a bald cat. Had he said this was a great show, I'd would have to had to turn my tickets in and use the money to pay for his psychiatric care and "how to quit lying" school

Lamar beat Delaware State. Central Arkansas beat UTSA. We beat Bradley. I believe that's the list of the Southland's DI wins so far. Abilene Christian lost in double overtime at Colorado State. That may be our league's most impressive result. |

Regardless of Bradley's record, I dare to say that most people thought that we would lose this game. I'm just glad we won. |

From Peoria Journal Star Bradley vs UNO Bradley takes a leap backward in 64-51 loss to New Orleans The Bradley Braves men's basketball team falls to the New Orleans Privateers 64-51 on Nov. 25, 2015 at Carver Arena. PEORIA — If Bradley’s competitiveness against experienced teams in last week’s Charleston Classic was a small step forward amid three defeats, Wednesday’s 64-51 loss to New Orleans at Carver Arena was a leap backward. The Braves (1-5) dropped their fifth game in a row, shooting just 32 percent from the field and 54 percent from the free-throw line as they couldn’t mount a serious challenge in the final 16 minutes of the foul-plagued game. “It was nothing about us not shooting well, they just wanted it more than us,” said BU guard Ka’Darryl Bell. “Plain and simple. They just out-toughed us. I don’t know what else to say.” UNO (2-2) jumped to an 18-9 lead in the first 10 minutes after BU coach Brian Wardle’s new starting lineup failed to produce. Bell and 6-foot-10 freshman Davante Cooper drew their first starts of the season on the heels of the team’s slow start Sunday against Towson and a ragged practice Tuesday. “I’m trying to find the right starting five to bring us energy and start us off quick,” Wardle said. “We didn’t have that again. I can’t be hollering and running up and down the sidelines trying to get us to go. We had some moments, but foul trouble we just couldn’t find that right lineup to take us over the top.” NEWS NOW Extra: Singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg had a way with words that resonates with people ... I can’t be hollering and running up and down the sidelines trying to get us to go. We had some moments, but foul trouble we just couldn’t find that right lineup to take us over the top.” Related content Wessler: Realities of youth and fatigue in Division I set in for BradleyBradley vs. New OrleansKeyed by guard Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, Bradley surged to within 25-23, capped by Bell’s 3-pointer from the right wing. But BU proceeded to miss seven of its last eight shots before halftime, falling behind 33-25 despite New Orleans sinking just two of nine free throws. “We got it close and they got the stops they needed,” Bell said. “We didn’t execute on offense. They were the better team.” Bradley had one small spurt left – a 4-0 run to start the second half – but it was followed up by a string of turnovers, missed shots and a horde of fouls. The visitors were in the bonus at 16:05. That launched a 7-0 run and a 40-29 lead following a 3-pointer by Cameron Reed. Bradley would slice the deficit to 46-40 at 7:31 following a pair of free throws by Callum Barker. But it only took the Privateers 19 seconds to answer with another trey by Reed. The closest BU would come after that was 52-44 at 5:11 on Thomas’ two free throws. When asked if the freshmen had lost their confidence, Bell, the team’s lone senior, shrugged. “I don’t think it’s confidence,” he said. “I think it’s just heart, collectively as a team. It can’t just be one or two guys out there playing with heart and passion. It’s got to be all five.” Wardle took some of the blame onto himself. “We all were a part of it,” he said. “I’m going to find a solution, I know that. That’s my job. I told ‘em after the game hopefully we listen more when I’m ranting and raving in practice. We lost this game based off practice (Tuesday). Period. We haven’t had many practices lately, but yesterday was a big day. “We pushed ‘em and pushed ‘em as hard as we could yesterday. We wanted to make sure we had enough legs to compete tonight. It’s all mental preparation in practice and understanding that every possession matters. Every moment in the game is important. And you have to play that way. And we didn’t play that way. Give New Orleans credit. They wanted it and we just couldn’t get anything going.” Thomas posted his second consecutive double-double, collecting 11 points and 10 rebounds. Bell was the only other Brave in double figures with 10 points. “I thought defensively we played real good,” said UNO coach Mark Slessinger. “Their young kids are skilled and they’re running good stuff. We knew we had to be on point the whole night defensively to have a chance. I think the world of Coach (Wardle) and his staff. We feel very blessed and lucky to come up here and get a win.” For Bradley, practices Thursday and Friday for Saturday afternoon’s home game vs. Ole Miss loomed large. “Each individual person in that locker room needs to look at themselves in the mirror,” Wardle said. “This should really sting. Hopefully it’s a wakeup call in practice. I was looking for player accountability on the floor. It started to come out a little bit and that’s good. If the coach doesn’t have to rant and rave and call everybody out and the players do it because they have pride in the program, that’s when your program grows. We have to find that.” Dave Reynolds can be reached at 686-3210 or at dreynolds@pjstar.com. Follow him on Twitter at davereynolds2. REPORT CARD FRONTCOURT D- Too many fouls inside and, aside from Donte Thomas (11 points, 10 rebounds), not enough production. BACKCOURT D- The offense was putrid (32 percent from field, 14 turnovers, 54 percent from line) and it starts with the guards. Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye passed up several open looks in the lane he should have finished to dish to others, who usually didn't convert. BENCH D Another nice game from Thomas, this time off the bench. Not much help from anybody else. OVERALL D- Against a smaller team unaccustomed to winning, BU competed on the boards (winning the battle 42-41) and blocked 6 shots. But when you shoot poorly and commit 23 fouls, those numbers don't mean much. A better effort needs to be forthcoming against a much better opponent Saturday. -- Grades by Dave Reynolds |
