Gill has 2 straight TO's in a few seconds but then gets a steal and a lay up and then someone gets another steal (sorry, fast paced) and Gill gets a 3 to take a 1 pt lead with 58 seconds left. OH what I'd give to have a few of those missed ft's.......... |

Lose by 4 and 12 missed FTs. Do the math. It has come to roost. Valiant effort at coming back. I will APPLAUD their hustle and heart (they have that down pat) but I will CURSE their continuous (going back to ALL SCHLESS TEAMS) lack of ft's shooting. I know what Floyd and Tic would do once they get back to the Lakefront tonite......but I'd bet the national debt, nothing will change. No excuses, folks. Close wins against a B.A.D. team means a loss. There is no other way to put it. NO. EXCUSES. Don't wanna hear Mark say anything positive tontite unless he's running for Governor or president. |

Not to make it hurt even more but it was a two-point loss. UNO shot 16-for-28 from the line, Tulane shot 18-for-29. I guess that's a two point difference but neither team shot particularly well from the line. I wish it was as simple as "practice more" but I think it's more about getting better players and accepting that college players on average only shoot in the high 60s anyway. Very disappointing loss. Once Christavious had that incredible basket-steal-three-pointer sequence late, you have got to take it by the horns and close that game out. I mean, OUCH. I love Reed and he's clearly the best shooter on the team but I wanted Gill taking that last three. Probably not a mathematically sound statement on my part and I'm sure I'm wrong, just saying. |

I would have liked Gill taking that last shot, as Cameron was having a bad shooting night, but easier said than done. |

No I agree with you......Gill was hot and likely more in tune at that point but not enough time on the clock. I'm not agreeing with Coach saying he's pleased with the 'growth' of this team. I don't see it (except on Defense, which has been THE one constant this short season) but the same silly mistakes, dozens of missed layups, and consistent ft shooting in the lower 50's or worse is NOT growth in my mind. 40% or more of this team has been together 2 or more years.....and the same stuff is happening. i'm sorry, I'm not going to be positive just because I'm a UNO fan. I love the saints but they effing suck and I'm not giving them one quarter. Pelicans have LOTS of talent and they look like day old puke and I'm still watching them but cursing them. We should be past the point of making excuses....this is how many years for this system now? FIVE YEARS! I'll agree we do have better talent than last year.......and some nice young talent learning but Tulane is a BAD team. I'll agree we never ever quit and never stop hustling.....but unfortunately playing only one good half in each game gets what we got tonite. Sorry, the eyes don't lie. |

Tulane is a bad team, but they beat the best team in our league by 1 point, and us by 2 points. I want to see where we finish in this year's version of the Southland. From what I have seen in a limited sample so far, we (1) are fairly bad but (2) should have a chance to win every night in this year's Southland. |

And that's the thing Steve. IN fact I was just telling my wife this tonite.... that as bad as Tulane is, and I'd be surprised if they win 7 more games frankly, UNO is no better BUT due to the weakness in the Southland this year, can compete for the top spots in it. (too bad the saints couldn't do that this year in the pitiful wasteland that is the nfl). That won't make us a good team but it may get us to the tourny and then to the next one. That will be a big thing....but it won't mean we have a good team. HOWEVER, all they need to do is compete in the league they're in........thats the only thing that matters........put lipstick on it and take it to the dance. Look at the nfl this year, some bad teams will be in the playoffs. |

Coleman Edwards has the look of a guy who can really be special at the lead guard. He made two HUGE 3 pointers in the second half to lead a momentous charge. The first one was a beautiful crossover into a well set shot with the clock running down right in front of the UNO bench. He is shooting over 40% from 3, looks good with the ball, and defends well. Reed was off tonight but was fearless and had the quick trigger that all gunners need. Danny Cohen is also an impressive looking athlete if you watch him during warm ups. The physical talent is definitely trending upwards. The panic yips around the basket and missed FTs need to end though but I am overwhelmingly optimistic. Really strong UNO support at Fogelman tonight. |

Both teams may be bad but for the first time in years as I listened to the game I was REALLY into it. I was happy when we switched to zone defense because I had read a Tulane post bemoaning the fact that they could not score against the zone. Problem is when we switched we were out of position for the rebound and they got way too many second and third opportunities to score. Missing free throws is bad but not being able to finish at the rim killed us again. Still, I believe if this team shows up every night with the fight they showed last night they should be able to compete and win in the SLC. That however is a big IF. |

I like Coach's take and I am glad it hurts, every loss should hurt! "It was disappointing," head coach Mark Slessinger said. "This is obviously a victory that our 35,000 alumni that live in the metro area deserve. It's one that we worked out tail off for. I think we grew up a lot tonight. We still have a lot of young, inexperienced guys and we grew up a ton. This game is going to help us in the league and help us win the Southland Conference Tournament. "For us, this was a championship environment, we made it that way and it's going to help us. I'm proud of our effort. I'm disappointed in some of our execution and our actions. I made some mistakes. We did some stuff that we'll go back and fix. We're going to get better." |
