I wasn't able to watch or listen last night as I had plans I couldn't escape from but I did catch a score around halftime that showed we were in it then got home to see we got blown out.

6 losses in a row? Wow, bad times continue.

Tough that we've already reached the stage of the season that a loss is so assumed that nobody even posts about a game.

That said, a whole cluster of games coming up that are very winnable. The four conference tournament bye teams are already probably determined, with only one-third of the league schedule played. UNO has played all four of those teams, plus ineligible Incarnate Word who is actually in fourth. The only game we've played against a second tier team is Lamar, which we won on the road.

The entirety of the rest of the schedule, save two games, is against second tier lower division teams. 10 out of 12 games.

I thought that when I got home and checked the Island last night :(

And I've also gone thru the schedule (last week after the awful 3rd loss at HOME!!!) and thought the same thing about the rest of the schedule.

However, no matter what, the close losses (home and road) have pretty much doomed us to one and done I fear. But let's at least get there before my gloom and doom overtake me.

I'm just really disappointed that for 3 straight years we seem to not have improved very much. If they could play offense as well as they hustle on D, we may be 3-3 or better.

The combined records of our six remaining home opponents: 12-23 SLC, 33-71 Overall
The combined records of our six remaining road opponents: 9-26 SLC, 26-79 Overall

The head to head close losses to both HBU and Sam have virtually locked us out of a top four finish, but the story of this season is far from finished. Unfortunately, realistic hope of winning the conference tournament pretty much relies on having at least one bye.

I think our chance of getting a bye is about as good as the saints making the playoffs.......

The defense sucks, we need to fire Ryan......never mind, wrong team.

It is just hard to post anything about the team right now.

Well tonite starts the 'second' season.........it's never too late.....don't give up hope........we're still in it.......and all those other optimistic lines. :)

This IS getting to the so called easier part of the schedule so there's still hope.

I will be there tonight. I will not be there Saturday.....I don't know who scheduled the game as our homecoming game but we cannot compete against Caesar's parade, Jefferson Parish Family Gras and other area wide events during Mardi Gras...I would expect about 75 people in attendance and that includes the teams, officials and staff.

I should make tonite and maybe Sat, traffic pending as I'm not a parade person. However, next mon night looks unlikely since I'm going out of town the following day early.

Maybe i'll get a floor seat on sat?

Whew. I'd have to think, down 68-57 at home to 3-13 Central Arkansas was serious gut check time. This isn't a very good team but credit to them for gutting this one out and not letting this season completely get away, which may well happen with a loss tonight.

Kevin Hill and Erik Thomas both with double-doubles. Hill 23 points 14 boards, wow.

Yea a FUGLY win beats an even FUGLIER loss. I was pretty sure, down by 11 and UCA hitting almost every 3 it seemed, it was over........and another home loss was going to be discussed but fortunately, the really ONLY thing this team has had going for it consistently was/is never quitting.

I'd take their #1 any day as a shooter for us. But I'm still a little confused at how we can just telegraph inside passes underneath the basket like their last year's mardi gras beads. They don't seem to value possessions and tonite, for about 10 mins of the game, the defense (the only strong point on this team) looked confused and slow. Not sure what changed but better possessions on the offensive end under 9 mins left seemed to take over.

And I have to give Nate demerits again tonite......just didn't make enough good decisions for a PG.

Kudos to Erik and Kevin.

And yes, losing this one pretty much would've kept the rest of the few who showed up at home the rest of the season likely. But I love how the arena can get loud with only about 100 people there (its sad that this is the case).

KUDOS TO KEVIN! He's in good company for sure. I KNOW I've been hard on him (and I still don't want to see him dribbling in company) but this is a nice crowd to be in.

"Whew"

My exact word as I followed this one from home! I'll be there Saturday. I long ago gave up complaining about conference scheduling around Mardi Gras. No conference we have ever been in has taken that into consideration.

True. And I can actually understand the conference scheduling. However, having homecoming for this game is puzzling to me. There must be more involved than I know of.

I can't really fault them. Not sure you can COMPLETELY avoid any Mardi Gras activities without putting the Privateers on a very long road trip. I think the conference obligation is to avoid Endymion Saturday and obviously Lundi Gras. After that we're on our own. I do agree homecoming during any part of Mardi Gras is curious.

I agree that we cannot get around the Mardi Gras issue but Homecoming is something that UNO controls. So who exactly is going to be there for a "homecoming" game?

Maybe the SGA should think out of the box and have a picnic for a baseball game and have the homecoming between the double header. Do it on a Saturday.......Have some barbque and / or crawfish.......use the old tennis court.......have a band........just thinking out loud.

I'm about 60/40 to attend on sat night...not likely for mon night tho.

And I like your idea for Homecoming.

On a TOTALLY different subject.....I thought the entertainment for the National Anthem and halftime was the best I've seen as far as I can remember (which, sadly, at my age might not be past last night). Seriously, those young men do a wonderful harmony. Had that been on a sat night and I didn't have work so early today, I'd have stayed and listened. Sadly, there was no one at the game and they likely played to almost no one.

My wife and I stayed to listen to about 3 songs after the game and I had to leave. They started out with a song from the Lion King, the Circle of Life and then did a couple of other songs that I actually knew. Like you, I would have stayed had it been on a Saturday night.

There were about 150 students, in attendance. The band didn't seem to mind the numbers (or lack there of) as they were doing their thing and seemed to enjoy performing.

I know this is just a one-off and has probably impacted no one but me in this way, but I'm actually going to be in town for homecoming because of the confluence of UNO game(s) and Mardi Gras (and my son's birthday) -- I thought it was perfect to be able to come in town on the first/less crazy/cheaper weekend of Mardi Gras with my son and get to see UNO play, too.

We plan to go to the night parades in Metairie on Friday and Sunday and the day parades in New Orleans on Saturday and Sunday. Caesar is probably the biggest of the bunch on the weekend we're there, but I'd rather make UNO. He'll still get to see Carrollton, Napoleon, etc.
