If anyone wants to preview the UCA team, the link below is to this weeks game against Nichols. The first couple minutes is dead air. UCA has a 7' freshman who shoots the 3.

Central Arkansas should be a tough game, but it seems that most of our Southland Conference games are.

I did a quick search and found this on their message board from their coach's Radio show:

have 7 losses by 34 points...........pleased with the roster and talent.......continue to have good talent coming in.........when you play fast like we try to play there are more possessions and more points.....other teams seem to be concerned with our offense but not our defense...by stretch time I think our defense will make a difference for us..........lots of team still in the conference race......hard to play at a sustained level on offense as some one will miss shot..........our problems have been when offense in a lull we do not step it up on defense fast enough........UNO struggled early but has played well in SLC play.......they play "bully ball" down low........it we can pressure them some and get the ball up and down we should be ok......ACU plays a lot like we do and have some good players.......then SFA.........this four game stretch is tough..........Nicholls played Howard nose to nose...........I expect he will bounce back vs UNO

And then I found this on the UALR board from when they played earlier this year......the way we guard, or don't guard the 3, I hope we at least put someone on their ONE shooter:

This year's UCA team is as close to an utterly one-dimensional team as you are likely to see. They don't play defense - at all. They get beat on the boards. They have one guys who shoots - and makes - a lot of 3-point baskets, and that is IT! Shut him down, and we will win the game. Simple game plan. But that also was the plan against GCU and we didn't get it done there.

They likely will start 7-0, 6-6, 6-5 along the front line, and they also have another 7-0, 6-9 and three 6-8s on the roster. So, they have plenty of size.

Jordan Howard is a 5-11 senior who averages 26.2 ppg and shoots 48% from the arc. He has taken more than twice as many shots and more than twice as many 3-pointers than anyone else on the team. But by himself he will torch you in a hurry if you do not have someone on him like a glove. I am sure he is looking at the fact that our opponents have shot over 40% from the arc and is licking his chops. After Jordan their scoring drops down to single digits. They do have other guys who can shoot; they just don't shoot much.

I was hoping that Jordan Howard had graduated. He is a very good player.

So our best defender one on one and the rest in a box......for the rebound assuming he doesn't make or take the shot.

If they don't play defense we need to exploit it.

I would think Sless and staff have a good idea of what they want to do but we cannot let them control the tempo of the game at the start.

The Run and Gun is effective if you have the shooters. It can wear out the opponent.

We've generally done okay against Central Arkansas, excepting the one game we lost in Conway when they were winless. We haven't had the best offenses but we've scored pretty easily against them in the past. But they're better than they have been this year. Taking UCLA to overtime on the road (and scoring 101 there) is impressive. I'd think if there were betting lines on Southland games we'd be around a 6 to 6.5-point favorite, but I always feel like every game against UCA is more or less a tossup.

There is a chance I'll have to miss this one because of the weather. Travel from Hammond to New Orleans (or anywhere really) may be pretty treacherous tomorrow. I hope it's not as bad as they say, I'd hate to not be there.

Steve, from what I just saw at noon today, it seems it will be sunny tomorrow but bitterly cold wind chills. Any precipitation is supposed to end tonite, so they say.

I imagine the wind chill off the lake will be bone chilling but fortunately, I only have to walk a short way from the parking lot that's mostly empty. :(

Hopefully there is not widespread black ice on the roads... don't want to miss a game. Don't care about the brutal cold walking into the arena, builds character! :D

If roads are closed, it would be a nice gesture if the video on UNO showcase was free for a game.

They're already closing schools tomorrow even tho the forecast is for sunny and dry tomorrow. I'm really surprised at the panic.

Thx Kelvin. I would think as long as the ice melts and dries up, we should be good to go.

Everyone be safe.

As of this morning, portions of the I-10 through Jefferson Parish and Orleans Parish are closed due to ice. Since the high today is only supposed to be 35, the concern is that the ice won't have enough time to fully melt, and if it does, it will refreeze tonight. I'll decide later if I want to risk going to the game tonight.

Since things are changing rapidly, just check on road conditions before venturing out.

I keep reading that the roads will be frozen over till well after lunch. It seems like there might be a small window where the ice melts enough to open some roads back up, but realistically, for me, making the trip in from Hammond for this one is probably somewhere between foolish and impossible. I'd have to think any travel from the northshore to New Orleans at night will be risky, but we'll see. Hoping for a postponement till Thursday, otherwise it's probably UNO Showcase for this one.

I just saw on the weather news that the highs today will be 33. I would love to see the game postponed until tomorrow, but I'm not sure how realistic that is. If Central Arkansas bussed in, I wonder when it would be safe for them to go back.

There will be a short time where the temperature will be above 32 degrees today and then it will drop back to below freezing at 8 p.m. according to several weather apps and websites.

I am not sure all roads will be drivable tonight when the temperature does drop if some of the water refreezes.

I will make my decision on attending the game much later today.

I am not sure where UCA is staying today / tonight but they may be in the same shape as the rest of us.

GO PRIVATEERS!!!!

Well, according to the basketball schedule in the New Orleans Advocate, UNO plays at Central Arkansas tonight at 7:00 pm. Wrong again.

I think the UCA team has been in the area since the weekend, since they played Nicholls on Saturday.

There are other things to consider besides fan accessibility. UCA's travel schedule might heavily lean them towards just playing tonight regardless of whether anyone can go. I have no idea what's involved.
