UNO Showcase question

I know Chip chimes in from time to time around here -- maybe he knows this one.

I was wondering about one thing in particular with UNO Showcase. A couple of seasons ago, the video had Chromecast support. You could cast fairly high quality video to your TV.. Last season, that unfortunately went away, and this season is the same. Any idea why this feature disappeared, and whether it might come back anytime soon? I loved it.

Actually, heading into the future, I wonder if something like a Roku app might be in the cards for this sort of thing. I know the Southland Conference has a Roku app that you can use to watch games on the Southland Digital Network (UNO at Incarnate Word was on this back in January).

Of course, my pipe dream has always been a Showcase-type thing but for the entire Southland, i.e. you pay, say, double and then get access to everyone's live game videos, not just your school. I know it wouldn't get many customers but it seems like it wouldn't be hard to do. Anyway, I'm rambling now, really mostly just wondering about Chromecast support.

I'm not currently a UNO showcase subscriber, so I can't test this myself, but try this. If you own a Chromecast and installed the software, you should be able to right click anywhere on your screen, and one of the options you can select from is "Cast"

I think I did this a month or two ago, and even the audio went through my big tv. The video quality was far from High Def.

Yes -- you can still do this. But it is not the same -- you actually have to keep your computer (1) on, and (2) on the correct tab that has Showcase on it. The video is also far less smooth. Showcase used to have a Chromecast icon and was actually Chromecast compatible and worked pretty well.

I don't know why the Chromecast button went away. I'll look into it.

Spoke to Sidearm about this:

There was never any direct Chromecast support. Some smart TVs can add buttons that look like Chromecast to a video web player. Did you perhaps change TVs between this year and last year?

Also if you download this app to your phone, you can apparently Chromecast any video - at much better video quality than the tab-casting thing (this is what Sidearm recommended).

Thanks for doing the legwork on that, Chip. Though I don't think Sidearm knows what its own product does, because it, for sure, supported Chromecast during the 2015-16 season. Sometimes you had to hover over the video in just the right way to get it to pop up, but the icon sat up in the top left corner where the Privateer head is now. I'm using the same TV/devices I was back then.

In any event, I have not tried the app you linked to, so I'll give it a whirl and see if it approximates the quality of apps that do have Chromecast compatibility. Appreciate the info.

Thanks again for the heads up on that app, Chip. Not able to make it to the southshore tonight, so trying it out for the Jackson State game. Thus far it seems to work really well. It's kind of an end-around but in the end is what I was looking for. Casts neatly to the TV, good quality. Don't have to keep on my phone screen while I do it. Just need to deal with annoying ads, but it's workable.
