Genus: Camposuchus Species: rex Name means: Plain crocodile king Stats: Average size: 10-14 feet long, 6-7 feet tall, 16- 20 foot wingspan Average weight: 28- 38 pounds Notable features: Relatively robust jaws, apair of extended canines like sabers Location: Argentina, South Africa, Congo, Brazil Temporal Range: 168 Mya- 158 Mya Description: Bulky, though still fairly lightweight, rusty red scales. Back is covered in blotchy reds spots that get smaller untill they vanish halfway down the tail. The jaws on the males have white bands that wrap around them, and during the mating season the scales around the eyes turn sky blue bordered by white. Neck, back, and tail are covered in raised scutes, almost spike like at there sharpest, while young. These scutes flatten as they get older, being completely flat all the way down to the tip of the tail. Wings are large and wide, useful while flying in the forests. Facts: Camposuchus rex lives up to it's name. As the largest dracosuchid of the jurrasic, it's tuely the king, with robust jaws that carry a pair of minature sabers, they can crush bone or sever blood vessels, making them an extremely effective killer. Unlike their ancestor, they lack and sort or a tail fin, their scutes being flattened all the way down, aiding in manuvering in the forests, and theirs wings are relativly short, but wide, allowing for quite manuvering in the dense forests. Unlike their costal cousins, Camposuchus are anti social, only meeting during the breeding season to mate, then they go their seperate ways again. Young are parasitic like mocking birds, females laying a single egg in the nest of a smaller dracosuchid. It then leeches off the mother, and killing the smaller hatchlings. |
