Scientific Name: Velocidilophus Benii Meaning: Ben's fast double crest Common name: Ben's Dilo Lifespan: 70-90 Age: Early Paleocene to the Early Oligocene Diet: Fish, Amphibians, small animals Location: South America but have spread to North America during the Oligocene Habitat: Lake, river, and coastal ecosystems. Description: They look like Dilophosaurus but with different bone structures in the hips The twin crests jut out on the back. The back of the crest has 5 pairs of prongs that reach a foot in length. It is 7 ft long and 4 ft tall with Black fur-like quills and a red crest with Blue prongs. Crest is smaller and duller in females. Notes: Earliest of its kind to leave South America Behavior: They are excellent swimmers. They float like a duck and mainly use their tails and legs to propel themselves through the water. They will also hunt in the shallows in a style similar EP's spinosaurids, dipping their jaws into the water and snapping up whatever is in between them. This species will also adapt to dryer areas and ambush prey. Breeding Behavior: Ben's Dilo Males mark a certain stretch of land and allow females to enter it. Once a Male and female are paired, Males or Females are no longer welcome in the couple's territory. |
