Silesaurids:

If one was to venture into the Triassic, they'd confront one of these strange animals. On all fours and being at about the bottom of the ribcage in height next to a human, Silesaurs look like a lanky miniature sauropod. Fossils from the Little grand canyon formation in Pennsylvania shows some diversity. While the basic body plan was still present in a very numerous species, new animals appear to have come out of the stone work. Some growing taller while others stayed small but had small head ornaments. We today know that these two new species will diversify and become Modern Gazelladonts and Saurocamelids. Today we are looking into the group these two came from and the species that lived within the LGC formation.

Scientific Name: Tiogasaurus. Rex
Meaning: Tioga county king lizard
Common name: Tioga Silesaur
Age: Norian to Rhaetian
Diet: Ferns and other low to mid level soft plants
Location: Northeastern united states.
Habitat: seasonal semi-dry flood plain
Description: Fossils show not much difference to Silesaurus, The skull has two small ridges over the eyes and large eye sockets. legs are slightly longer with curved claws, suggesting a runner that grips the ground.
Notes: Known from seven complete specimens and two partial specimens. Holotype is a a jaw bone and eye crust fragment.
Behavior: based on its appearance and diet, feeding behavior may have been like the gerenuk of our world. Large eyes suggest nocturnal activity. Animal may have been quick to flee and was skittish unless near another of its own kind.
Breeding Behavior: Crests in some similar sized specimens had different sizes and pores suggesting it had a more prominent crest in life and that larger crests indicate male specimens. Males may have flashed these at females or each other to see who is better at getting girls.
Other: though it does have a crest like Gazelladonts, it is still basal and placed in Silesauridae since the crests are not in the right position or shape as other primitive Gazelladonts who all have crests behind the eyes and not over top or in front.
