"Bugger of perv!" the young woman yelled and flipped Simon off.
"Ah- I'm.. Sorry" Simon apologized, but the girl had already left him behind. It seemed it was not as easy to aquire a travel partner as Simon had hoped.
The young man sighed dejectedly and fiddled with his hat once more.
It would appear that his age kept the younger people from traveling with him, and he could understand why.
Still it bothered him, he had had such high hopes that he could find someone to travel with, after all he had prepared to help others along his own travels.
He could of course travel alone, but it seemed so dreary to weather the roads of Prydein without at least some human company.

Simon shook his head and made a decision. He would ask just a few more and if they all rejected him, he would travel alone and see to it that he helped all those whom he had been rejected by should they ever need it.
With that in mind, Simon turned to watch the road.
After a few minutes he lid up in a smile and began approaching a young man who seemed to be fresh from the lab.
"Excuse me" Simon started towards the youth, "Would you by any chance be intrested in a travel partner?" he asked, ready to elaborate on the many ways he could be of help on a journey.

Turning at what he assumed was a voice calling his name, Coleman's gray eyes came to rest on an older man with coppery colored hair. "..." The pikachu on Cole's shoulder seemed to appraise the approaching trainer with a skeptical look. Raising his eyebrows in an equally appraising gesture, Cole cocked his head toward the Pikachu. "What do you think Sparky, do we need this guy?"

"Chuuuu..." Sparky said, and it sounded ominous. "Yeah, I was thinking the same thing." The younger trainer patted Simon on his shoulder "We don't need you." He finally replied, with a crooked smirk. Cole turned and began walking away, though Sparky still gazed at the man.

"...But, if we're going the same way, you can tag along." Simon wouldn't be able to see the wider smirk on the young trainer's face. He liked pokemon more than he liked people, but this guy seemed meek, and wouldn't cause too many problems.

This young trainer seemed to be in a league of his own. Others had either outright accused Simon of being som sort of devious person, or they had given him a flustered and almost unhearable excuse before hurrying along.
This young man however seemed to actually think about it before he bluntly rejected Simon, it was different.
Simon couldn't help but smile at the last offer to tag along.
Maybe this boy really didn't need him, but he was at least willing to give it a try it seemed, and Simon, though a bit shy, knew he couldn't pass an oppertunity like this, after all, he had promised himself to be more open.

"Well... In that case don't mind if I do" he said and hurried to catch up to the boy.
"I'm Simon, I'm studying to become a Pokémon doctor" he introduced himself and held out his hand as a more formal greeting.
None of his pokémon were out and about like the pikachu on the young boy's shoulder, but right now Simon considered letting Lucky the Happiny out.
It would probably be a good idea to have her experience the world.

Cole didn't seem particularly impressed by Simon's proclamation of becoming a pokemon physician. "Hm... alright." He said passively as he continued to walk, not bothering to shake hands with the older man. "I'm Cole... or Rusty, whichever you prefer." He didn't bother to explain himself further. This stranger didn't need to know that he was in search of his estranged father.

"We're going to stop for lunch soon though. I hope you're not in a hurry." The dun-haired trainer picked a spot off the road and sat down in the grass, Pikachu hopped from his shoulder and immediately began digging through his bag, pulling out sandwiches and cans of soda. "Good thinking Sparky." He said with an almost melancholy smile, as he pulled free a few more pokeballs from his belt.

In a matter of moments, a group of pokemon had formed a semicircle around the trainer, and were happily eating pokemon food. Counted amongst their ranks were Sparky the Pikachu, Spike the Nidoran, a Bulbasaur, and a Karrablast. Cole himself was sipping a soda and occasionally looking up at the other trainer. "Need a sandwich or something?"

"Nice to meet you Cole" Simon said as he let his hand drop. This trainer was hard to get to know.
He seemed distancing, he clearly wasn't intent on making friends, and yet the youth suddenly invited Simon to join him for lunch. Maybe he was just bad socially, at least, that was what Simon decided to believe.

Simon dumped down in the grass with the other trainer, and began letting his pokémon out, introducing them along the way.
"This here is my starter, Lucky the Happiny, and this pokémon I got when I arrived, Princess the Shelmet, she knows Heal pulse." Simon finished introducing his pokémon and began looking through his own bag for some food.
In the meanwhile, the Happiny wandered around for a bit, found a wildflower and picked it up.
Then, with great pride she went over to Sparky and presented it as a present for the pikachu.

"Seems like Lucky would like to be friends" Simon said and smiled as he pulled a small box from his bag along with smaller bags containing pokemon food.
He began preparing the food for himself and his pokémon while watching Lucky's attempt to make friends.

Cole himself seemed rather unconcerned with Simon's pokemon, but one of his group immediately took notice of a member of the other trainer's team. karrablast had only recently been caught by the young trainer, only about a half hour before he'd met Simon the one-day pokemon doctor.

The young man's eyes followed his karrablast who immediately waddled his buggy, little body over to the shelmet. "Princess huh..." He said, obviously having heard some of what Simon had to say. He seemed absolutely puzzled by his newest pokemon's activities. It was walking around the shelmet, taking in it's appearance from every angle, and occasionally walking up and knocking on places on the shell. "Weird." He finally said as he went back to his sandwich, while Sparky was being gifted with a wildflower.

The pikachu was not new to dealing with youngsters, or young pokemon. Sparky graciously accepted the flower, and proceeded to try out several different games with the happiny. He finally came to the conclusion that peek-a-boo was a proper game for the young pokemon, and spent much of his lunch break hiding behind his hands and popping his face out in front of Lucky.

Cole's nidoran and bulbasaur contented themselves with simply eating. bulbasaur herself was a young pokemon, and was in a new place with strange companions. She was relatively shocked. Spike, the nidoran on the other hand was much like Cole in personality. He simply did not a give a damn what anyone but his trainer had to say to him.

After he finished a sandwich and a half, the remaining half of the sandwich he fed to the new bulbasaur, patting her on the head softly. "Hey..." He had to strain to remember his new companion's name. "Simon. Are you planning on staying out here to catch pokemon, or are you going to head straight to Ashmere Village?" He questioned, as he pulled out a map and began to survey the nearest landmarks.

His eyes flicked up though, in mild shock, as his new karrablast tackled Princess the shelmet, it seemed as if through liberal use of the horn on his head, and his tiny, bug hands that he was working very hard to remove Princess' shell. It looked as if she hadn't expected this turn of events.

"Heh, what the hell?"

Simon was amused, even though he had to split his attention three different ways.
It seemed that Cole's Karrablast was very much interested in his Princess, which wasn't too weird considering how the two of them evolved.

The pikachu proved to be much more social than it's trainer and played games with Lucky, Something Simon was grateful for. He would have hated for the Happiny to be dissapointed so soon into the adventure.
The playhouse pokémon seemed to enjoy the games as well, letting out little squeels of joy and clapping her hands every time Sparky popped out from behind his hands

Lastly Cole was also talking, but Simon was used to splitting his attention, so listening while watching what happened didn't prove a problem.
He listened to Cole and sat a few seconds without answering.
Simon wondered whether this was genuine interest or a ploy to get rid of him.
In the end he chose to have faith that the young man wasn't that devious and smiled before answering: "Well.... As we've already concluded it's not like i'm busy to get my journey over with, so I wouldn't mind hanging around a bit, looking at some pokémon... That being said, i did intend to tag along, so if you're in a hurry I wouldn't mind either." Simon finished with a smile and was about to wait for an answer before Cole's Karrablast began assaulting Princess in order to remove her shell.

The Snail pokemon let of a disapproving cry and began shaking in order to get the Karrablast off her.
For a few seconds, long enough for Cole to comment on the event, Simon just stared at the Scene, then he swiftly picked up princess from the ground and shook her gently, trying to get the Karrablast to let go.
"It would seem.." he said between shakes, "That your Karrablast wishes to evolve."
With an extra strong shake Simon finally got the Clamping pokémon to let go.
He took Princess into his arms and looked at Cole.
"Is that something you'd want?"

Cole tapped his chin with a finger, looking at his karrablast who continued to struggle to prize off the other pokemon's shell. "That's how they evolve huh? Well far be it from me to stop him... though, it doesn't much look like your shelmet wants to evolve." He had observed the spectacle as well, and Princess had appeared very disturbed with the whole ordeal.

Karrablast was still eager though, and continued to try to remove her shell with all his might. "If you don't care, I don't care." Coleman muttered and went back to looking at his map, patting his bulbasaur softly once more. "I think I'll call you Petals." He said, with a sound of satisfaction in his voice.

Now, Cole figured he'd let Simon deal with the matter of their pokemon's joint evolution. Since the older man was tagging along with him, that made Cole the leader of their little safari. He was beginning to think that they weren't really in a rush. All of his pokemon needed some serious training too. "I think we'll probably hang out for awhile, maybe do some battling."

"Well that's exactly how they evolve." Simon started and looked at Cole.
"You needed to trade them for each other once but it's been found out how they do in the wild as well. The process is like this: your Karrablast would gain my princess' shell and become an Escavalier while my Princess, losing her shell, would become Accelgor the ninja snail." He explained and looked at Princess.
"I personally wouldn't mind evolving them, Accelgor has better speed and special attack than Shelmet, and i'd like to be able to heal others as fast as possible." Simon offered before he got up, pulling Princess out of reach, and looked around.
It was nice that Cole seemed to want to stick around so that they could meet some wild pokémon, and Simon too needed to train his pokémon.
As he was he wouldn't be able to challenge any gyms, and even wild pokémon would prove a match. Perhaps it was best if both trainers trained their pokémon.

Simon smiled at cole and said: "Say, how do you feel about a battle? I'm sure Lucky could need the training, and Princess can heal our pokémon afterwards?"
Personally Simon liked the idea, it would mark his first real trainer battle since coming here, and since he was about to journey with this young man he might as well get to know his style.

Cole thought on the idea of battling, but it didn't take him more than a few seconds to come to the conclusion in his mind. With Simon's Shelmet able to provide healing for their pokemon, the pair would be able to battle indefinitely. It was an idea that Cole found extremely novel. "Sure. Let's have them evolve and then we'll do it."

The trainer from Kanto had never seen a karrablast prior to the one he'd captured, and had no idea what exactly the pokemon would be turning into. It was a passing curiosity.

"Sparky, get ready... as soon as that's done you're up first." Cole said to the Pikachu, who nodded and sprang toward his trainer, climbing up onto the young man's shoulder, and leaving the young happiny to its own devices.
