The little Poochyena growled a bit, looking at the little blue Water-type. She just wanted to play, and you hit her. Fine... she decides to play rough with the little Totodile, slamming into the blue beastie with her full body, and growling rather cutely at the same time.
The Poochyena wagged her tail, yipping at Wade lightly and then faced Totodile, still a little mad.

Fragarach was surprised at being tackled again, glaring even harder! She was supposed to be scary doing this! The little lizard tightened her stance, glaring glaring glaring, and then sent another blast of blue energy, a 'scratch' at the little hound.

The little Poochyena whimpered as she was scratched again... those hurt! Lots! She looked up at Wade, as if expecting him to intervene, or help or something... She thought he looked like a nice person.
The Poochyena held back away from the Scratching, hiding behind Wade, pawing at his leg lightly and looking quite adorable and wanting... She was making the puppy-dog eyes... no human could resist the puppy-dog eyes.

Roll a 1d10, results being: [result]4&4,1d10,0,4&1d10[/result] 1 - If Fragarach goes for another Scratch, the little Poochyena will run away, not wanting to play anymore and going to her Mommy to nurse her wounds. 2-3 - Fragarach hits the Poochyena with another Scratch, causing the little pup to get knocked down and unconscious, falling to Wade to take care of her. Still catchable, but unconscious until the Pokemon Center. 4-10 - Wade manages to get a Pokeball out in time to catch the little scared pup.

Wade thought for the mere seconds he had a chance to stop his ragebomb little totodile- well, maybe she needed some Poke-ridalin. Like, seriously, not just maybe, definitely. It had been sheer practice, mixed with a tiny spice of skill and luck, that got a pokeball out and proper size before he popped the ball gently again the pup's head and swallowed it up into the ball.
The boy glared down at Fragarach, silently telling her to calm down, but not before the dirt where the poochyena had been at before flew up and swatted him gently in the leg.
"Fragarach, that is not how we make friends, do you hear me? Quit being a bully, that's a bad girl!" he commanded, narrowing his eyes at her and making her whimper before the little totodile ran forward and swatted her Pokeball's button, swallowed up into it.
Scuttlebutt, meanwhile, shook it's head. "Yeah, I know Scuttlebutt, what a piece of work!"

Wade was getting close to Ashmere village... he only had about another couple miles or so to go before he would reach the little town where Luka was waiting. So far, he was making decent time to get there... he'd be there within the hour at this rate.
That was until someone was in his way... A young man, looking to be in mid-twenties, was standing in the path, a small box under his arm as he saw Wade. He was wearing ground-framed glasses, and had well-manicured black hair. He looked as if he was waiting for someone... and that someone was Wade.
"There you are, Wade..." The young man said with a smile, adjusting his glasses and wiping some dust and leaves from his coat. "I was told to meet you here... The professor wanted me to see how you've come along. He said that you'd be coming by some time this evening."
The man smiled lightly, opening the case and folding it out into a small machine on a stand... it looked to be a portable Pokemon Restoration Unit. Similar to what Pokemon Centers have installed for lighter cases, but of a limited use before needing to be recharged.
"I don't know if you remember me.. I'm Oliver, one of the professor's interns. He introduced himself, nodding to the Mahogany boy.

That was certainly not something Wade was expecting, the boy was three pokemon up and now had five Pokemon at his belt. He had expected battles, finding items, hell even other trains interrupting him- but he had not expected his grandfather sending anyone his way.
The boy blinked, then tilted his head and shrugged. "Hey Oliver, I'm Wade- though you're right, I don't remember you. What's up?"

"Well... the Professor wanted to let you know that he's got his eye on you... As a Mahogany, he expects much from you and your cousin... So he sent me by to test you." The intern replied, revealing a group of Pokeballs on the inside of his jacket. "I brought the portable, so you should probably heal your Pokemon... Your granddad sent me here to battle you."
Oliver let Wade prepare his Pokemon... he had four Pokeballs on him, each of the Pokemon appropriate to Wade's level, but Oliver had picked them himself... He and the Professor wanted to give Wade a good experience in a decent battle, as a little way to help him move forward on his journey.
"We'll each pick three Pokemon to use. Single battles, feel free to switch out, but only amongst the three." Oliver adjusted his glasses, offering Wade the chance to use the portable.
Trainer Encounter! Intern Oliver, 3 Pokemon battle.

The dark haired scion of the Mahogany clan blinked at that, well more glared for a split second at the mere accusation that he'd do things on a normal person's scale- but also at the thought process that his grandfather thought it was necessary to test him. Wade didn't want to do things because he was in the shadow of someone else, or to please someone else. He wanted to do things just because he felt they were the right thing to do, or because they made it easier for him to hang around a girl he liked.
Wade's journey was supposed to be an independent thing, wasn't it? The same of everyone, really but at the 'and your cousin', Wade snorted. “Wayne is starting a journey too? His mom can't be happy about that.” and in his mind, he laughed, sure that Wayne would pick a Mudkip just to be different from the rest of the family.
Then the youth placed his five pokeballs in the machine, letting his Pokemon be healed to maximum health. He didn't respond to the challenge yet, but that was because the boy was thinking of which team would work the best. He knew Fragarach and Scuttlebutt's capabilities of course- where as his new Rufflett would want to prove itself to him- at least if it's will to fight was visible.
And who knew about Oddish or his Poochyena, but he'd not have to decide just yet- so it didn't matter in the end.

"Well, we'll have to see what his mother says when he brings it up to her... when she talks to your grandfather about filling the boy's head with 'grand aspirations of being a Pokemon Master'..." Oliver chuckles, smiling at what he'd heard Oliver's mother say to the Professor once. "She forgets that the average starting age for a Pokemon trainer is 14, and that Wayne has had more education on Pokemon than most boys his age... But, anyway."
Oliver fixed his glasses, wiping them lightly and sighing. He yawned a little and stretched, then looked back at Wade.
"To be honest, I asked the Professor to do this. I wanted to see the way you battle for myself... See if you can battle as well as your Father." At that point, Oliver's smile lessened, as he dusted his jacket off a bit more and grabbed his first Pokeball. "Well, have you decided yet?" He asked as the portable restoration device dinged at the end of its cycle.

The dark haired lad cocked an eyebrow at Oliver, icy blue eyes rolling over the assistant of his grandfather before Wade grabbed his Pokeballs, putting them all back at his belt and nodding. As he did, his words came quickly, calmly- with less hesitance or sloth than he had displayed earlier in the day when it came to being a trainer.
“What's their to decide? My grandfather and father always used to tell me that in the East, there's a saying: 'When two trainers eyes meet, they must battle.' Seems like a ritual and any good luck will help a journey.” then the young man gave a dimple twitching grin, tilting his head.
“Plus I have a strong urge to wipe that doubt right off your face.” in the end, the boy decided that Rufflett would be his 'third', if for no other reason than to let the little eagle-ling have a second chance of proving it was 'strong'.
“Let's go, your pokemon out first- rules of the challenge after all!” and already Wade's hand was reaching for Fragarach or Scuttlebutt.

"Alright then, that's what I like to hear!" Oliver said with a smile, casting off the coat and stretching his shoulders, quickly grabbing a Pokeball and tossing it out onto the field.
"Poo~nyta!" The Pokemon whinnied as it was sent out, a majestic looking colt of a Pokemon standing proudly on the field, tamping its hoof against the dirt of the path and snorting at Wade, tail flicking as the young colt of a Pokemon stood ready to battle.

This first match was something that Wade found easy, at least in the sense of everything that his father and grandfather had taught him. The first rule of winning Pokemon battles was simple, use Pokemon that have super-effective abilities against your opponent, or Pokemon that might be resistant to the type of moves they use. Ponytas were studied enough that even if there wasn't flame seeping out of its body, Wade would know the type of Pokemon it was.
So without hesitation, he threw out Fragarach, his Totodile. She might not have any water type moves yet, but in the off chance that Oliver's Ponyta had fire type moves Fragarach would be the least affected by them.
As the little lizard came out, she looked at the horse like Pokemon and then up to her trainer, waiting for his cue to move. Without hesitation, Wade gave the first order.
“Fragarach, Dragon Dance!” the boy spoke up, increasing Fragarach's abilities would be the first step into winning this battle, if he couldn't rely on super-effective moves it was what he and Fragarach would have to rely on.
Immediately, the little light blue lizard nodded, clenching her jaw shut and beginning a wild, frantic sway of her hips and arms, glaring forward and slowly emitating a dragon like Pokemon, even mock picking up an imaginary sheep and hurling it into her mouth.
Soon after, the little lizard was enveloped in light blue energy.

"Nice choice, a Totodile is a great choice for a starter Pokemon..." Oliver complimented on Wade's selection of the little blue reptilian Pokemon, trying not to snicker as she did a very descriptive Dragon Dance... He fixed his glasses, and gave a light whistle. "Ponyta, you're up! Show him a taste of your Double Kick!"
"Po~ny~TA!" The young colt of a Ponyta galloped over to where Fragarach was, circling around her lightly until his hind-legs were in front of her, each of them kicking her once before he galloped back to the Professor's Intern, whinnying proudly.
"Your Pokemon aren't the only one with unexpected moves, Wade.." He said with a grin, waiting to see how the Trainer would react.

Fragarach had just finished her little booty-shaking power up when the remarks came from Oliver, and before the little Totodile could glare over at him for the perceived insult, she found herself smashed in the face by the one and a half her height fiery horse. It sent the little crocodilian back with a grumble and a knot on her head, but when she clambered up she looked to Wade- letting her own fighting spirit be tempered by his. Of course the little Crocodile wanted to smash the fire horse in the face, but it wasn't her time or place to do that yet.
Wade winced a little bit at the sight of his Totodile being kicked like that, the first strike hitting her hard while it had sent her off balance and she had barely been hit by the other one, and he nodded to himself. He wouldn't let anger or irritation cloud his mind- and even concern for Totodile could be tempered, really.
“ “Rach, use a Scratch!” he busted a rhyme, which made the little crocodile giggle out a “Toootooo.” before charging forward, spinning around and sending a scratch flying towards Ponyta's haunches! Then Wade nodded, tilting his head at Oliver with an expression as if to say 'No duh'. “Every starter class Pokemon is supposed to have a move inherited from its parents to set it apart from the rest of its species.” he rolled his shoulders as Fragarach scampered back to him.
“So is that Ponyta your starter, or you just pilfer it out of the pile at the starter class breeding facilities?”
Fragarach used Scratch.

"Oh, he's mine, alright... though, he's not a starter. I bred him myself from my own Pokemon... I've been a trainer for a fair while." Oliver revealed, smiling gently as he saw his Ponyta get hit by the Scratch of the little blue Totodile, the red lines in his haunch showing that it was a fairly good hit. "Use a Tail Whip, get her defenses down!
The flaming horse galloped over to Fragarach, brushing its tail across the Water-type's face and continued to keep moving, whinnying lightly and returning to nearby his Trainer.
Ponyta used Tail Whip
