Kori took a deep breath of the fresh country air and sighed happily, reaching into her pack. She carefully went through the supplies she'd been given, attaching several pokeballs to her belt for easy grabbing.

"Okay, Aewen," she said with a smile, looking down at the only full pokeball on her belt. "Let's find us some wild pokemon to catch!" She took the pokeball from her belt and tossed it, grabbing it when it rebounded and attaching it to her belt again. She knelt and began petting Aewen, smiling down at the Eevee.

"We're partners now, you and me," she whispered. "Together, we can do anything." After spending a few moments bonding with her pokemon, Kori straightened with the Eevee in her arms and looked around. "Best start walking, I guess," she muttered. She tilted her head to the side.

"Aewen, I think our best chance at this whole destiny thing is to go to the gyms. I wonder where the nearest gym is." She slid her fingers through the Eevee's fur thoughtfully."Well, we're on Route 001. I guess we can keep going until we find the next town and ask there. Maybe they'll have a map of the gyms or something."

It was nearly a perfect day for travelling, or whatever one would want to do outside. The sky was literally cloudless, and there was a light breeze every few seconds to cool down the bit of heat the sun would bring down on whomever was below.

1 = A pokemon encounter (already!)
2-3 = A trainer challenge (already...?)
4-9 = Something 'else' happens
10 = Pretty much nothing, feel free to improvise travelling (with not much happening, of course.)

"Ay, kid, hold up!" A voice would ring out from behind Koraline, a younger boy that had to be around eleven or twelve. It seemed like he was just a beginner as well from the looks of things. Chances were that he had just come from the same pokemon center that Koraline had.

He spoke like he was a bit older than he was, he was obviously cocky from the way he talked. Finally catching up to her, he bent over on his knees and tried to catch his breath. It took a few seconds, but he finally managed to do so, speaking up while still breathing heavily. "You... I saw you... coming from the pokemon center... huff ... we should battle!"

As if he finally caught sight of the pokemon in Koraline's arms, he looked curious. That was obviously not an option for trainers to pick from. He looked a little jealous, but didn't say anything about it. He assumed she was related to someone that worked there, or had paid something.

Koraline turned to look at the boy with Aewen held tightly in her arms. The pokemon's fur was warm against her body and she was further warmed by the sun, and as she watched him approach she stroked the Eevee's fur.

"Battle?" But she had just gotten Aewen! She looked down at her pokemon. "What do you think, Aewen?" she asked. Aewen looked up at her.

"Vee, Eevee! Eevee eevee!" Aewen crooned and wiggled until Kori released her. She hopped to the ground and took a step forward before realizing that the boy was much bigger than her when she wasn't held in Kori's arms. The pokemon pressed against Kori's legs and watched him.

Kori studied the boy for a few moments. Did she have faith in herself? Yes. She didn't need to prove it to herself by battling this boy, but she might have to prove it to Aewen.

"Alright!" she decided. "Let's battle!"

"Vee?" Aewen asked, looking up at her. Kori nodded with an encouraging smile to Aewen, and the pokemon perked up. "Vee!" She took several steps towards the boy, away from Kori's legs, and waited.

(Quick mod note: at level 5, your Eevee has the following moves: Helping Hand, Tackle, Tail Whip, Sand Attack, and Yawn. Yawn is an egg move given for the Eevee being your starter. Sand Attack from the most recent game's moveset. Enjoy!)

ooc: Sorry for taking so long, busy couple of days with working. Also apologies for missing those attacks, getting used to the rules.

"AWESOME!" The kid looked like he was going to burst out of his skin. It was obviously his first time, and although he wasn't as happy as Koraline was (that seemed to be hard to compare to) about starting his journey, he came pretty close to it. "My name is Zachariah, by the way, you can call me Zach!" He fumbled around for his pokeball, taking a good few steps away from Koraline before tossing it forward and shouting, (even louder than what he'd been shouting already) "I CHOOSE YOU, JO-JO!"

Jo-jo popped out of its pokeball, revealing itself to be a Bulbasaur. Jo-jo didn't look particularly excited to be there, but he moved to get ready for the obvious battle he was just thrown into.

ooc: This is a free form battle, meaning we'll just be roleplay battling with very few rolls in between to guide it. Make it fun, the better your posts are (not meaning length, necessarily) the better the battle will go for you. :)

ooc: You're fine. Life is life and life is busy and busy is life and...okay I'm finished.

Kori stared at the boy and his pokemon. She beamed at his enthusiasm and looked down at Aewen. "Alright! Aewen, are you ready?" Her enthusiasm was infectious and the Eevee flicked its tail excitedly.

"Vee! Eevee eevee!"

Kori thought hard as she looked at the boy. She wasn't sure of battle etiquette. Perhaps this would teach her well. She bit down on her lower lip and then turned her gaze to Aewen. She'd studied battles and battle etiquette for her whole life but it was like the moment she had to battle for that very very first time, her mind went blank.

"Vee!" Until Aewen's voice brought her back to herself, that was. Kori smiled at the Eevee and nodded.

"We can do this," she said, regaining her utter faith in herself and her pokemon. She pointed. "Aewen, use tackle!" It was a fairly basic move and it would warm their pokemon up. Hopefully.

"Vee! Eevee eevee! Vee!" Aewen pinned her ears flat back against her head and ran away from the safety of her new trainer's legs towards the bulbasaur. She jumped and dove, turning her body into something resembling a spear and stiffening it in preparation for impact as her forepaws lifted and extended. She aimed straight for the bulbasaur, not intending to give this odd-smelling grass fellow any more time than necessary to prepare for what havoc she was about to wreak.

Jo-jo wasn't too quick to respond and took the hit full force. It knocked him backwards a good five yards, but he landed on his feet. From the look on his face he was starting to take things seriously... it just took him a little more time than a normal pokemon would. Zach slapped his forehead and groaned loudly. "AWWW... C'mon Jo-jo, get outta the way next time!" Jo-jo looked back at his trainer and gave him a 'look', before turning back to his opponent.

"Never mind that, use tackle, Jo-jo!" His pokemon nodded, letting out a "Bulba!" before rushing forwards to retaliate.

"Vee!" Aewen cried out in pain as Jo-jo slammed into her. She lay for a moment, contemplating the wisdom of this battle, but then from behind her she heard a voice that was no less cheerful for being worried about Aewen.

"That's okay, Aewen! You'll dodge it next time! Can you keep going?" Kori cheered when Aewen looked at her and stood back up, ears flickering proudly.

"Eevee!"

"Good! Let's see how he does about tail whip!" Kori was thinking through all of the attacks she knew that Eevees could learn. She hoped that tail whip would do something to help Aewen out. They needed something good. What would make a sound impression on the bulbasaur?

"Vee! Eevee eevee!" Aewen ran towards the bulbasaur again, She waited until she was close enough and then she jumped and spun. Timing was everything. The eevee waited until it was almost too late and then swung her tail. Perfect! Her tail whipped around like an actual whip would, lashing straight at the bulbasaur.

"Yeaaaaah! Way to go, Jo-jo!" Zach yelled out, pumping his fist and literally jumping into the air like he'd just won the battle in one move. "Buuulllba!" Jo-jo hopped up just like his trainer, except he didn't pump his fist, mostly because he didn't have a fist to pump.

Before Zach could do anything else, Aewen came spinning at Jo-jo, whipping its tail perfectly. It was an impressive sight to behold, to be sure, and it left Jo-jo somewhat dazed. Zach wasn't one to be outdone, however, and yelled once again. "It's okay, Jo, two can play that game. Growl at that Eevee!"

While the Eevee was still close enough, Jo-jo growled loudly at his opponent, attempting to strike fear.

"Eevee!" Aewen's ears went flat back against her head and she showed her small, sharp teeth. Was that growl supposed to scare her? She growled back, but it was just for show. There was no attack in it. "Vee! Eevee eevee, vee!"

"Aewen," Kori said, giggling and watching Aewen's ears perk up as the pokemon tilted them to listen more clearly. "Let's try this again! Tackle!"

"Vee!" Aewen took another running start, although she was still much closer to Jo-jo than she had been before. She jumped as high as she could to get the maximum amount of momentum from the tackle and she waited until the height of the leap to turn down and stiffen like a diver, aiming for the bulbasaur as she dove, stiffening her paws, ears flat back against her head, small teeth bared as her tail streamed out behind her.

"Eevee!"

Jo-jo looked surprised that his growling hadn't worked, and looked back at Zach for direction. Zach looked just as surprised. The little bulbasaur was unlucky enough to have its defenses lowered at the point that Aewen attacked again, just barely turning back to see the Eevee hit it. The blow sent Jo-jo flying, and when he landed with a skid he looked fairly beat up already. "C'mon, Jo-jo, get it together, we can do this! Tackle again!"

"Buuullllbaaa!" came the only response to his trainer, and the bulbasaur started running (a bit slower this time) at Aewen. His determination was admirable.

ooc: This attack will hit (consider it determination). Roll a d10 in your post again (but make sure to post what Aewen/Koraline do as well). If it's an 8 or above, Aewen's next attack will knock Jo-jo out. If it's a 1, Aewen's attack will miss.

"Vee!" Aewen cried as the tackle hit her. She crawled to her feet more slowly this time. When she stood successfully, she held one paw up for a moment before she put it down, tail drooping and ears sticking flat out on either side of her head as she stared at the bulbasaur. "Eevee!"

"Aewen! Are you okay?" Kori was worried for her little Eevee. Aewen swished her tail and flickered her ears before she gave a sharp nod. She was tired, but she could continue. Kori beamed at Aewen.

"That's my brave girl!" She clapped. Aewen looked at Jo-jo and lowered her head, ready once again for whatever she was asked to do. "Tail whip, one more time!"

"Eevee! Vee!" Aewen shook off the pain and took a couple of bounds towards the bulbasaur before spinning and once again executing her tail whip, waiting until the last moment to lash her tail around at him. "Vee!!!"
