Once again Aewen's tail whipped at Bulbasaur, leaving him even more dazed than before. He was obviously in bad shape, but he was determined to keep fight. "Bullll, bulba!" Zach was getting desperate, watching his Bulbasaur get beaten up, but he also wasn't quite giving up. It was apparent they were both trying to see this through until the bitter end, even if it meant they were going to lose. "Don't give up yet, Jo-jo, tackle it one more time!"
Jo-jo moved a little bit slower this time, but he sent himself flying at Aewen a fast as he could manage. You had to give it to the pokemon, he had a lot of spirit even when things weren't going well. It was obvious that he couldn't take much more though.

"Vee! Eevee, eevee! Vee!" Aewen cried out as the bulbasaur struck her and she fell back, tail twitching. Kori bit her lower lip. She knew without asking this time that Aewen would want to finish the fight, because the moment she opened her mouth to ask, Aewen gave her tail a saucy little flick and lowered her head, ready once more.
A piece of Kori worried that perhaps she was being a bit too ruthless, but it was clear that Jo-jo wouldn't be giving up. She and Aewen would have to end the battle resolutely or it would never end. Koraline took a deep breath.
"Aewen!"
"Vee!" Aewen called, tensing in readiness.
"Finish him, Aewen, with a tackle!"
"Eevee!" Aewen took a running start and - feeling, much like trainer, that she didn't want to take things overboard - she leapt for one last tackle, ears flat back and tail whipping back and forth as she extended her paws, bracing herself for the impact.

It was all that Jo-jo could take, it slid backwards and was obviously fainted after the tackle from Aewen. Zach didn't look particularly happy about it, but after putting Jo-jo back in his pokeball he begrudgingly came forward and offered Koraline his hand. "Well, I dunno how you got that pokemon, but you're pretty good. Maybe next time we'll have a bigger battle, with even more pokemon!" He honestly wanted to ask if she'd train with him some more, but he was close enough to the pokemon center that he could run back there and try to find someone else to fight with. Besides, from the looks of things Koraline would beat him again.
"Well, later!" He darted back to where they'd both walked from, without saying anything else.

"Bye, Zach! I hope to battle you again someday!" Koraline waved after him. She smiled and knelt. "Aewen, we did it!" She threw her arms open.
"Vee! Eevee!" Aewen ran into her trainer's arms and leapt into the embrace, snuggling close to the trainer she was beginning to bond to. Kori snuggled Aewen close and stroked the soft furred ears and head, holding her Eevee tightly.
"I'm so proud of you!" Kori told her pokemon, still beaming. She hugged Aewen and stood. "You did so wonderfully!" She couldn't believe her luck. She was glad she hadn't taken the other choices. The others were all well and good but she was so lucky to have been given her Aewen.
"Well, we should probably keep going, don't you think? We need to cover some more ground before dark. You can rest and I'll carry you." Kori played with the pokemon's ears. "I wonder what else we'll find on our journey."
"Vee!" Aewen didn't know, but she was certain that she could face it alongside her trainer. She closed her eyes and relaxed as Kori began walking along the roadway, stride confident and happy. For herself, Kori began to perk up to her normal level of cheer. She'd been worried that she wouldn't be able to find someone who would be as good a friend as Leo had been, but maybe...maybe she had. Maybe her little eevee would be it.

There was still plenty of time left in the day for 'whatever' to happen to Koraline and Aewen, the sun was just barely past the middle point in the sky. It was a bit more windy than when Koraline started her journey, but it should not have been too bothersome, at least to most people.

As she walked, Kori talked to Aewen quietly, detailing her life and her mission now. She was going to find her father, she explained, or she was going to try. She whispered to the pokemon her secret fantasies that the enigmatic father that she had never known was even one of the Elite Four! Perhaps pokemon training was in her blood doubly so, since her grandfather had been a grand trainer in his youth.

Nearby in the trees a scratching sound could be heard. Upon closer inspection, a Pidove could be seen scratching on the side of a tree, pecking on some bark. It was obviously trying to get at something on the inside of it, probably some kind of smaller bugs, but it wasn't paying much attention to anything else than the tree in front of it.

"Hm?" Kori stopped mid-way through a story of some imagined legendary battle that her father might have been in and looked over at the sound of scratching. She peered through the bushes at the side of the road carefully and gasped quietly. A pidove! I'm going to catch it! But...is Aewen ready to battle yet?
She drew back from the bushes and knelt with Aewen in her arms. "Aewen, what do you think? Are you ready to fight the pidove?"
Aewen had been resting in Kori's arms, and though she hadn't gotten a full rest by any means she was more than willing to do whatever was asked for her. "Vee," she whispered softly and jumped down from Kori's arms.
"Okay!" Kori kept her voice low. "Aewen, let's start off by getting its attention! Use tackle!"
"Vee!" Aewen turned and got a good running start before jumping over the bushes at the pidove to try to tackle it out of the trees. Her ears went flat back against her head and she extended her paws, intending to tackle the pidove away from the tree and to the ground.

The Pidove turned its head and squeaked out a "Pi..." just in time to see an Eevee right in its face. It knocked the Pidove off of the tree, and into a nearby bush. The bird was stunned for a few moments before it finally pieced together what happened. When it did, it was mad. It came flying out of the bushes, flapping its wings and squawking "PI, PI, PI, PI!" until it found Aewen and retaliated with a tackle of its own.
The bird settled down, but only barely, staring down the pokemon that had just interrupted its potential lunch. Its feathers were completely ruffled, and it spread its wings out to look much bigger than it really was. "PIDOVE!" It squawked one more time, and if its voice wasn't so high pitched, it might have been more intimidating.

"Vee!" Aewen laid her ears back as she stared at the pidove waiting for her next move. She whipped her tail back and forth as her blood began to rush and she geared up to the battle. "Eevee eevee!"
"I think it's safe to say we have its attention," Kori said unnecessarily. She, too, stiffened up some as the adrenaline began to rush through her veins. "Aewen, try using tail whip! We'll weaken it some!"
"Vee!" Aewen ran for the bird, leaping into the air to come at it from above so it couldn't take off. She spun slightly to get the right angle and waited...waited...now! She lashed her tail around to strike at the Pidove.

The Pidove flapped wildly when Aewen approached again, staring it down until the move was complete. The Pidove seemed completely unimpressed by the move, it was almost as if tail whip had no effect on pidove at all.
This was made clear by the way that Pidove came careening back at Aewen, almost immediately after the tail whip attack. It jumped up fairly high, using its wings to gain more altitude, before sailing back down directly at Aewen. "PIIIIII!"
It finished its attack and jumped back a few feet, finally noticing Koraline. The bird seemed somewhat surprised at the other 'being' watching the fight, but in the end it focused solely on the monster that had knocked it off of the tree. Bristling its feathers again, it would sound to Koraline like it was challenging Aewen. To Aewen, it would be fairly obvious that Pidove was issuing a challenge, and that it was one pissed off bird.

"Veeee!" Aewen crouched and flinched as the bird attacked her and then she straightened just slightly, indicating to her trainer her willingness to continue. Even though she'd only just gotten Aewen, Kori had begun to realize what the Eevee's body language meant. Aewen straightened and stared down the pissed off bird.
Is that all you've got?!
"Aewen, use tackle!" Koraline bit down on her lower lip and watched as her tired Pokemon ran at the relatively fresh Pidove and jumped, tackling the bird again in a spectacular show of poise and form that was to be admired even by the incredibly unhappy bird.
If only we can weaken it...then Aewen can use yawn and I can try to catch it while it's asleep...

Pidove didn't seem to want to respond to Aewen's challenge, having already sort of issued its own. It was also obviously pretty mad, so it just randomly shouted out loud when attacked again by the Eevee. It was obvious that this fight was going to go on for a while unless either Koraline wanted to give up or the Pidove calmed down, neither of which seemed like was going to happen.
The Pidove took the hit fairly well, skidding backwards after attempting to shield itself with its wings. It didn't help much, but after regaining its composure it started flapping its wings again, stirring up a gust of wind. With one final flap, it sent the gust towards Aewen, anger subsiding enough for it to respond.
Bring it on, bully!
The Pidove danced around angrily again, keeping its wings extended and its feathers ruffled. For such a small creature, it definitely acted a lot tougher than one would think.

"Vee!" Aewen laid her ears flat back and lowered her head between her knees against the gust of wind to try to protect her delicate nose and ears. When the attack was over she felt more drained and she was a little slower to straighten than before. "Vee," she panted softly, staring at the pidove.
Koraline stared at her beloved companion worriedly, and then she looked at the pidove. She wanted the Pokemon, there was no way around it. But Aewen was clearly tired. Kori looked at the Pidove, thinking quickly. She could use one of her potions, but in the time she did that the Pidove could easily escape. She could throw her pokeball and try to distract the Pidove, but that would let the Pokemon know what she was up to.
What could she possibly do? If she tried Yawn and the Pidove didn't sleep, it would leave Aewen open to an attack. But if she kept wearing out her poor pokemon, the fight would drag on and she and Aewen were at the disadvantage. With Aewen and the pidove staring so intently at each other...maybe...
Oh, I hope this works...
"Aewen, yawn!" She took a breath and hoped.
Aewen's ears flickered towards her trainer in slight confusion but with her eyes still locked on the Pidove the Eevee opened her mouth and gave a huge, soul-sighing, relaxing, loose yawn in the bird's face. She completed the move by giving a sleepy smack of her jaw opening and closing at the end of it and her tail curled around her back legs in a sleepy-looking manner.

The Pidove looked on more curiously than angrily, wondering why exactly its opponent was yawning. It cocked its head to the side for a moment before yawning itself, it would seem like the ploy was successful so far, to Aewen and Koraline. For now, though, it shook its head and ruffled its wings again. It was obviously tired, but it wasn't done fighting yet.
Pidove flapped wildly again, stirring up a miniature gust of wind before launching it at Aewen once again. It waited for the attack to connect, looking somewhat calmer than it did before. "Pi!" it screeched contently, yawning again.
Before it could do anything else, it settled down where it stood and huddled up before falling asleep.
