A journey of a thousand what?!

Before Koraline could determine what gender her new Pidove was, or how strong it was, or anything else about it, she heard the Poochyena yelping. She turned and gasped, turning her potion and spraying her Eevee instead. Until she knew how strong the Pidove was, she didn't want to try it against a Poochyena that she knew was fresh.

"There you go, Aewen!" She stared down at her Eevee, who perked back up as the potion began to seep in. Koraline took a deep breath. Even as she started to get an idea of what to do, Aewen perked up further and flicked her tail saucily. She laid her ears back and stared at the Poochyena.

"You're doing really well, Aewen! Are you ready to take that Poochyena down?!" Kori shoved the empty potion bottle back into her pack and shrieked when her hand brushed something. "Eep!"

"Vee! Eevee!" Aewen's adamant shout filtered in among the surprise at brushing something small and round in the pack. Kori closed her hand around it and pulled it out, staring at the small Pokeball. Her eyes widened as she stared it.

A Pokeball? Kori was about to examine it further when Aewen's growl caught her ear. She looked up at her Eevee and narrowed her eyes as she stared at the Poochyena. There had to be a way to strategize this. Clearly, they couldn't keep going blow for blow. Aewen deserved better than that. She deserved a smart trainer, not one of brute force.

Maybe the same attack that it had used on Aewen, the one that had blinded her beloved Eevee? "Aewen, use sand attack!"

"Vee! Eevee!" Aewen swooped her tail back and forth across the ground, gathering up the sand into a pile, and then she crouched and swept her tail across the pile, scooping the sand up onto her fluffy tail and sending it flying at the Poochyena. While she did, Koraline turned her eyes quickly back to the Pokeball in her hand and turned it over. There was a note on it. She pulled it away.

Because I know you're gonna get homesick, ya big baby.

Tears sprung to her eyes. Leo. She missed him so much, big dummy. Why had he decided to wait a year before beginning his journey?

"Pi?" The Pidove's purr made her sniff and look up, wiping her eyes as she looked at it. She nodded and tossed the mystery pokeball. She watched as a small glow of energy emerged and there...

"A Joltik?! UGH, LEO!!!" Koraline shrieked. Bugs were not her favorite things! The little tick skittered to her and bounced up her leg to her shoulder, snuggling against her neck. Koraline groaned softly and sighed, reaching up to stroke it with two fingers. "You're...kinda cute...for a bug..." She gave a deep sigh. "I think I'll call you Miss Tick."

The Poochyena had apparently fought plenty of sand attack battles, moving to close its eyes and block the attack- but too late! As Aewen's tail swept move flied forward, it sprayed the dark type in the face and sent it howling, before it shook it's head.

The hound like Pokemon charged, this time no circling- at Aewen. It's fangs bared, it was obvious it was preparing for a 'bite' attack.

ooc; Rolling a 1d6.
[result]3&3,1d6,0,3&1d6[/result]
1- Poochyena hits, and the hit is 'critical' hurting Aewen seriously.
2 & 3- the Poochyena hits.
4 & 5- The Poocyhena misses.
6- The Poochyena misses, slamming itself into a tree, hurting itself moderately.

As the Poochyena's jaws clamped down around Aewen, Kori found herself suddenly thankful beyond words that she'd used the potion to heal Aewen, not the Pidove. She grabbed the Pidove's Pokeball and recalled it since she had Miss Tick to use if she needed it. She'd look more closely at the Pidove when they weren't under attack.

"Aewen!" She gasped, staring at the Poochyena's jaws chomping down around her little Eevee. She bit her lower lip. What could they do? Aewen seemed to be faltering, clearly unsure about taking on the Poochyena.

"Tackle it while it's close and off balance, Aewen!" It was doing minimal damage, but it was the only thing she knew to do. Aewen tucked her ears back and turned, jumping into the Poochyena to try to take it to the ground while it was off balance. Aewen's ears pinned back, the valiant little Eevee had apparently decided to take this fight just as far as her trainer would let her.

The Poochyena was indeed tackled into, but it was not sent sprawling back, the larger, stronger canid Pokemon standing it's ground and letting it's teeth off of the Eevee just in time to tense it's mouth, circling away and then charging forward- moving to use another Bite attack.

Rolling a 1d6
1 Poochyena Misses, hurts itself slamming into a tree.
2-4 Poochyena misses.
5 Poocyhena hits.
6 Poocyhena hits, Aewen.

"Dodge that Bite, Aewen!" Kori gasped. Aewen layed her ears back and twisted her body around in an odd wrenching move, standing on her back legs for a few moments before hopping, catching all of her weight on her front legs and twisting her hindquarters away once more.

Aewen pinned her ears back and stared at the Poochyena, which was proving to be much stronger than either she or Koraline had expected. Aewen didn't think her trainer's tactics were working. She laid her ears back. Maybe they should rethink fighting this Pokemon.

"It's okay, Aewen!" Kori didn't want to show it, but she was just as disheartened. She didn't want her Eevee to think she wasn't confident, though. Faltering would never build her Pokemon's confidence in her. "Try using Yawn again!" Maybe they could at least make the mammoth of a Poochyena sleepy. What else could it be but a Mammoth, after all, when it was resisting everything they threw at it?

Aewen's ears flickered uncertainly, but she posed and opened her mouth wide in a yawn, showing the back of her throat and every pearly white tooth. She laid her ears out to the sides sleepily and let her eyes go half-hooded, wrapping her tail around one back leg and even huddling down just slightly in her crouched stance.

The Poochyena shook it's head, growling and smacking it's feet against the ground as it rumbled back through, circling once again. IT's fur bristling nad on end as it jooked and jived, eyes flickering and staying awake before it charged forward for a tackle.

1 Poochyena Misses, hurts itself slamming into a tree.
2-4 Poochyena misses.
5 Poocyhena hits.
6 Poocyhena hits, Aewen.

Koraline had had enough. She couldn't watch the Poochyena hurt her beloved Eevee like that anymore. It was impulsive. It probably wouldn't work. It would almost certainly bring the Poochyena's attention to her...but she couldn't help it.

Miss Tick was jumping around on Kori's shoulder excitedly, ready to run in and save the day. Koraline wanted to tell the Tick to simmer down, but she didn't want to waste the breath. She jerked her arm back with a Pokeball in it and hit the button to make the Pokeball larger before shooting her arm forward and flinging the Pokeball at the Poochyena while it was occupied, presumably with moving off of Aewen so it could prepare for another attack.

"I'm going to catch this Poochyena," Kori muttered softly.

The Pokeball hit the Poocyhena hard in the haunches, making it stumble as the button pressed against it's skin and it was soon swallowed up into the Pokeball. Immediately, it began to rock violently, but none the less there was a chance this would work!

Roll a 1d7.
1-4 Poochyena escapes the Pokeball.
5-7 Capture is successful.

Koraline stood staring at the Pokeball in blank amazement. She looked at Aewen, who was panting heavily staring at the Pokeball as well. Aewen turned to look up at Kori.

"Vee!" She said, panting. She poked the Pokeball with her nose. "Eevee!"

"We caught it," Kori murmured softly, and then it really hit her. Her eyes widened. "Aewen, we caught it!!!" She ran to the Pokeball on the ground and scooped it up, hugging it close and dancing around for a few moments. "I have a Poochyena and a Pidove and an Eevee and a..." She remembered Miss Tick and her enthusiam dimmed, though not enough to be noticable. "And a Joltik!"

"Tik!" Miss Tick proclaimed from Kori's shoulder, clinging throughout the dance of victory.

(ooc; Freaking jeezus, I feel so bad for making you wait 11 days. I thought I had already replied to this, you should've said something! )

Indeed, in a short time Koraline's team had doubled, if not quadrupled. And not only had it grown immensely, she had through luck and persistence caught a pokemon which was stronger than most of her Peer's Pokemon, without a doubt.

Poochyena was captured!

Species: Poochyena
Type: Dark
Gender: Male
Ability: Quick Feet

Level: 14

Moves: Tackle, Howl, Sand-Attack, Bite

Personality: Mischievous, Confident, and slightly Sadistic to people he doesn't know, this Poochyena is a courageous battler and sometimes a bit of a bully. However, if Kori takes the time to get to know him he might become protective of her and his fellows amongst her Pokemon.

Roll a 1d10, Elf.

1-2 = Ghost Type of My Choice.
3-5 = Pokemon of my Choice from the Common List.
6-8 = Random Pokemon.
9-10 = Pokemon Trainer!

"If I keep this up, Aewen, we'll have a full team ready to battle the gym leaders with us in no time!" Koraline smiled at Aewen, who flickered her ears and crooned, hopping into Kori's arms. Koraline laughed and hugged her close, rubbing her ears and looking over her carefully to make sure she wasn't too terribly hurt.

"You don't look too bad off," she decided, smiling and kissing her Eevee on the nose. "But I think I'll let you have the next battle off. Miss Tick is fresh."

"Tik!" Miss Tick insisted happily, scuttling around on Koraline's shoulder. Kori giggled and stood up with Aewen in her arms, beginning to walk again.

"What an exciting day."

And it seemed that the girl was carrying Pokemon bait on her person. Perhaps she had forgotten to seal a bag of Pokefood? Whatever the case, even as her conversation ended, a Pokemon bumbled it's way into her path. The little mushroom like Pokemon called out a "Mish, mish, shrooomiiish." as it went, but in no time at all it'd bump into her and it looked pretty sickly.

Koraline stopped when she noticed the Shroomish and she bit down on her lower lip in worry. She fidgeted a little bit and then she tilted her head.

"Hello," She said to the Shroomish, blinking as she stared at it.

The little mushroom-ette pokemon continued it's bumbling along, apparently not hearing her. Or at least not hearing her until the last moment, then looking at her with the expression one might expect of a littlek id looking at a really weird alien.

"Miiiiiiiish?"
