Japanese-US F-35 Acquirement Contract

Acquirement
1. ) Japan agrees to the purchase 84 F-35A from the United States to be employed in the JASDF for the replacement of its current F-4 Phantom II's.

Payment Terms
1. ) As agreed upon by Japan and the United States, the above aircraft will be acquired at a price of $226 million per unit, totalling $18.984 billion to be paid per delivery and in full by the end of the contract date.
2. ) The United States agrees to consult with Japan over any increase in the projected price of the F-35 program.

Manufacturing
1. ) The first batch of 8 aircraft are to be built in the United States, with all further deliveries to be produced in Japan.
2. ) Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is to be involved with Lockheed Martin in depth over the supply of production parts and the technological advancements of the F-35.

Training, Maintenance and Service
1. ) The United States agrees to provide training in the use of all F-35 combat systems.
2. ) Lockheed Martin shall work with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in servicing all F-35 jets, with the eventual goal of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries becoming the primary servicer of F-35 in the Asian-Pacific region by 2020.
3. ) A regional maintenance hub shall be setup in Japan for all users of the F-35 in the Asian-Pacific region.

Delivery Schedule
1. The United States agrees to the delivery of 8 F-35A aircraft per year to the JASDF in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and 9 aircraft in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
