William was seated in the back of the library with his cloak shed. He hated this time of year, and much preferred to only have to worry about the clothes on his back. Not the jacket on the chair, the cloak on the hook, or the robes on the table. He hated layers and the drastically varying temperatures that caused him to add and subtract them.

The only sound coming from his little nook was the scratching of a quill on musty parchment. His grandmother had given him this notebook years ago when he first showed sign of following in her footsteps and becoming a spell-weaver. He had already made two or three, but only one was a really powerful spell capable of doing some real damage. Right now he was working on a spell to create a massive sandstorm to either hide oneself or temporarily incapacitate the opponent... preferably both.

He waved his wand over the page for the seemingly thousandth time that day and watched the failed incantation disappear... again. He was beginning to be discouraged when an idea struck. He gripped his quill tightly and began feverishly scribbling down complex Latin word structures, certain that this time he had it right!

A creak in the floorboard behind him caused him to pause. Pulled out of the zone, he waited for his eyes to refocus from staring at a piece of parchment all morning. "Hello?" He said as he donned his spectacles. He stood and closed his book. He looked down the aisle to the left and as he did, he heard a voice come from the aisle to his right....

Keira had strolled into the library and looked around. She didn't see anyone in here, and assumed it was empty. Of course, it wouldn't have mattered to her if it wasn't, just as long as those Gryffindors weren't here. She hated how she always ended up running into them; seeing them in class was enough to annoy her as it was.
Content that no Gryffindors were here at the moment, Keira started to stroll down the aisles, looking around as if she were searching for something.
She was searching for something, but it wasn't a book; it was for her ill-tempered and chaos-causing white cat, Flurry. This was the second time the cat had disappeared, which was unusual since Flurry would rarely ever leave her side, unless she went to class or wasn't in the castle. Keira was actually a little worried about her, though she would never reveal it to others.
"Flurry?" Keira whispered, looking around the aisles and glancing at the top of the shelves. Knowing her cat, she could be anywhere; the owlrey, the hallways, the great hall., but she wasn't going to rule the library out. She had once caught her cat walking along the higher shelves, squeezing in between the books and causing them to fall...she loved that spoiled cat!
Keira glanced along each shelves, half-expecting to see a fluffy white tail sticking out, but she couldn't see anything but rows and rows of books, ranging from new to ancient.
"Flurry?" Keira whispered again, and moved down the next aisle. Where WAS that cat?!

"Hello?"

Keira jumped and lashed out her wand, almost firing a spell as someone suddenly replied. She lowered her wand as she realized it must have been another student. She had thought the library was empty! She couldn't see who it was who had spoken; they must have been in the aisle next to her. That was a good thing for her, because that meant that whoever it was, they hadn't seen that they had startled her. If this person was a Gryffindor, she was going to be furious. Her eyes glinted coldly at the thought.

"What!?" The blonde Slytherin girl replied a little coldly, trying to cover up the fact that he had scared the living daylights out of her.

William tucked his spell-book into his mokeskin messenger bag which was dyed a rich indigo and a Ravenclaw crest emblazoned on the flap before he replied. With his hand clutching his wand inside his extra pocket, he went to the aisle on the right. Oh... it's only Nightfall... She's awfully rude though, we've only ever spoken a few times. Why is she acting like this? She is the one who startled me and pulled me away from my work...

"Well, hello there, Miss Nightfall." He said politely. He had decided to play oblivious hide that fact that he knew that she was almost arch enemies with two of his friends. A little sarcasm never hurt though... "What brings you to the library? I've never seen a Slytherin in here before. I though only my fellow Ravens and the occasional Gryffindor came here."He thought perhaps he'd gone too far, but changed his mind after remembering that SHE was the one who started them on a sour note, "Looking for something in particular? I know loads about the library, I could spend hours in here, lost in the familiar scent of musty tomes..."

Keira turned her head as the student came out from around the aisle. She recognized the boy as William Fowler, the Ravenclaw. Some of her anger died down. So it hadn't been a Gryffindor after all... She didn't have anything against Ravenclaw, but her friends still were mainly in Slytherin.
She had rarely ever spoken to William either, but then again, that was no surprise. Keira didn't exactly go waltzing up to everyone like a social butterfly, and not many people wanted to waltz up to her either.

"Well hello there, Miss Nightfall." She heard him say politely. TOO politely, it definitely seemed strange to her. She stared at him for a moment with unrelenting blue eyes, trying to figure out what he was up to. Was he ridiculing her?! Or was he really honestly just trying to be polite...?

"What brings you to the library? I've never seen a Slytherin in here before. I thought only my fellow Ravens and the occasional Gryffindor came here.
Looking for something in particular? I know loads about the library, I could spend hours here, lost in the familiar scent of musty tomes..."

Keira's eyes were like ice after he finished the first two sentences. He did NOT just say that!
She glared at him for a moment, and then smirked unexpectedly, her eyes glittering as she replied;
"That's because we don't need books to teach us, we already know everything there is to know...more than some people can say. Spell books are used for incapable wizards who cannot figure out things by himself. We Slytherins practically wrote all of the books, just so that you people can keep up." She flipped her hair innocently to one side, and smiled. "But you can read all you want, feel free to! You'll be reading about me one day anyway; I'm going to be famous." The most powerful witch in the world... She thought with satisfaction. Imagine the look on everyone's faces! I'm going to be best thing that ever happened! Bigger than even the most well-known witches and wizards!

William laughed internally and barely stifled a chuckle, "Honey, I write the spell books. I haven't had to actually read a spell book since the middle of my third year. And I don't know where you got your information, because Slytherins barely write term papers, much less something beneficial or meaningful to others... it goes against your whole little 'code'. And I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but 'Sectumsempra' is far from all there is to know..." He made a dismissive motion with his hand. This girl was FAR too cocky, if she ever did find herself in a situation, she would no doubt have no clue what to do.

Generally William tried to avoid conflict, but his prideful complex was already rolling, he would win this battle of wits, The wheels in his head were only just beginning to turn, not having to go full speed for some overconfident girl. "Also... I actually wasn't reading just now. I was writing, a spell book, one you'll eventually read about in another book about ME. But yes, I will read for pleasure to my hearts content. Why ever would I let you stop me? Knowledge is power you know, and I'm afraid I know much... much more than you do, my dear... " He told her, his voice dripping with sweetness.

"-I don't know where you got your information, because Slytherins barely write term papers, much less something beneficial or meaningful to others...."

Keira's blue eyes were now blazing furiously. How dare he talk like that about HER house! The Slytherin girl was gripping her wand dangerously. Anyone who could have taken the hint would have run away from her at that moment, and yet William kept pressing his luck;

"And I'm sorry to tell you this, but "sectumsempra" is far from all there is to know... Also... I actually wasn't reading just now. I was writing, a spell book, one you'll eventually read about in another book about ME. But yes, I will read for pleasure to my hearts content. Why ever would I let you stop me? Knowledge is power you know, and I'm afraid I know much... much more than you do my dear."

"Yes, I'm sure I will read something about you some day...maybe even sometime soon....it'll be your obituary!" The blonde girl said venomously, her eyes cold and threatening.
'The Life and Times of the Ravenclaw Boy Who Wouldn't Shut Up' it sounded like a good article for him!

"And as for 'knowledge is power', well, we'll just see about that, won't we?" The girl replied with a smirk.
You couldn't use a book to defend yourself from powerful spells, it wouldn't do any bit of good! And he may claim to know more, but knowing and performing spells are two completely different things. She would take power over knowledge any day! And luckily, I am both. She thought haughtily to herself.

"MRRrrrrooooWWWWWW!" A low-throated and vicious growl suddenly came from the bookshelf beside William. A shape was crouched down in between two large books, it's green eyes glowing in the shadows. It was Keira's cat, Flurry. Without warning, the cat let out a hiss, revealing its sharp teeth and fangs. Her white fur bristled to twice her size, and her eyes were locked intently on William. Her tail lashed back and forth and her claws were threateningly unsheathed. She looked as if she were about to tear him to shreds, but made no sudden movements from the book shelf.
It wasn't unusual for Keira's cat to act like this towards strangers, but knowing that did not make her any less vicious or frightening.

Keira had turned her gaze suddenly to the shelves beside William after hearing the loud growl. She was a bit surprised to see her cat there, hissing and growling at William as if he had stepped on her tail one too many times. She was inwardly relieved to have found her.

'Yes, I'm sure I'll read something about you someday... maybe even some time soon... It'll be your obituary!'

William suddenly felt strange... he could't explain it, so he quickly brushed it off as nothing. She sure is a feisty one, isn't she? He asked himself. I like it! Wonder how far I can go with this? he thought as he chuckled. "You know, Miss Nightfall, I had you pegged beyond the mindset of a first year, but now I can see that I was sorely mistaken. I had thought of you as at least a fourth year..." He paused to catch her reaction, but before he could relish in her fury, he heard an unholy yowling behind him. He turned and saw a cat which looked like it wanted to send him to hell itself! He coughed quietly and released a spot-on replica of his golden eagle's hunting screech. He coughed again as he watched the cat seemingly pale as if it had seen a ghost (which since they were at Hogwarts, was entirely possible.) He laughed as his vocal cords returned to their regular form and he watched the cat frantically scurry to hide betwixt the legs of its master. "Ahh!" he said, "I see your little furball has met my beloved Aria since I got that reaction..." He smiled grateful that part of his animagi training had succeeded. So far all he had been able to transfigure was his voicebox, but he did that perfectly...

William looked once more at Keira's face... he found her unbridled rage somewhat appealing... It was a form of honesty after all. A trait he valued most highly. He watched as the cat shivered in fear between her legs. He couldn't help feeling proud, but he also felt bad, he didn't like terrorizing living creatures at all. Oh well he reasoned, it couldn't be helped. He looked back up at Keira, "And Miss Nightfall, if that was a threat, it'll take a LOT more than," He put on his best impersonation of Peeves, "an ickle firstie and her ickle kitty cat to do me in..."

Keira had been a startled after William had unexpectedly let out an ear-piercing shriek, similar to an Eagle. Not as startled as Flurry though, who's fur had stood on end and who had taken off in a white blur towards Keira. Now, her cat stood by her legs, undeniably shaking slightly with fear. The cat never took her eyes off of William, as if she didn't know whether to run or growl at him again, and trying to figure out if he was an eagle or a human.

"I see your little furball has met my beloved Aria since I got that reaction..."

Keira felt heated anger well up inside of her. A conflict between the two of them was one thing, but it infuriated her that he went and scared her cat like that. It wasn't like Flurry would have attacked him...well, she might of ...but usually not unless he came too close.
Not to mention that Keira had just spent hours searching for her, if Flurry had run off and hid, then Keira would been spending all night searching for her again!
...Not that he had known about that though; she hadn't mentioned it. She didn't show others how much she really cared about her cat, but she did.
She wouldn't have cared if Flurry had attacked him; there was no excuse for this! NO ONE messed with her cat!!!
She was considering a few suitable spells to fire at him when he added:

"And Miss Nightfall, if that was a threat, it'll take a LOT more than an ickle firstie and ickle kitty cat to do me in..."

"Firstie?!!" Keira repeated furiously, one of her hands was on her hip and the other was still angrily gripping her wand, "You better watch it, Fowler!" Her eyes were narrowed and she looked as if she were about to start casting killing curses his way. Just remember who you're dealing with! she thought, directing it toward William.

William watched her grip her wand tightly Firstie?!! You better watch it, Fowler!"

Ahhh! there it was again, the flare, the passionate rage, the unrelenting fury. He loved it. He was drawn to her storm-like fury like moths to the flame, he was enjoying this, talking sweetly while simultaneously enraging her. It was glorious! Snap out of it, William! She is Edan and Angie's worst enemy! Just by casually saying hello you are betraying them! You don't really even like her... do you?

"My, my, Miss Nightfall, ease up!" he said, gestureing to her tightly clutched wand, "You wouldn't want to develop Carpel Tunnel syndrome, now would you?" he asked, barely hiding a snicker. "And don't call me 'Fowler'... it's much too stuffy... makes me sound even smarter than I already do. Call me William or Liam, I insist upon it." He looked and made sure his belongings were all together before he continued. He knew it wouldn't be long before she lost all control. It was nearly time for his shift anyway.

"My, my, Miss Nightfall, ease up! You wouldn't want to develop Carpel Tunnel syndrome, now would you?"

Keira still glared venemously at him and didn't release the grip on her wand. This boy had more to worry about than her getting Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

"And don't call me 'Fowler'... it's much too stuffy... makes me sound even smarter than I already do. Call me William or Liam, I insist upon it."

She had a few names she wanted to call him, and none of them would be pleasing to hear!
And on top of everything, he was practically laughing at her, she could tell by the obnoxious grin on his face! She was done with his nonstop insults and remarks, she would give him something to laugh about!
"Melofors!" Keira suddenly lashed out her wand and in a blinding burst of light, shot a spell toward him. It may have not been the killing curse she had considered, but it served her point, and she was tired of being toyed with!

William was tiring of the games and he needed to go to work soon, but it appeared that Keira had reached her limit. She fired an orange bolt from her wand toward him, yelling an incantation. In a split second William had assessed that the spell was a transfiguration spell, would encase his head in a pumpkin, and the perfect shield spell. He flicked his own wand forward and mentally yelled a shield charm of his own creation, 'Declino!' He couldn't wait to see the look on her face as her spell crashed into the blue orb that was coming from his wand and surrounding the young Raven. He could have caused her spell to reflect back at her, but he didn't want to... yet...

He had a smug look on his face as his shield dropped after the danger had passed, "I do believe that it is my turn, Miss Nightfall..." He pointed his wand at the floor and hissed, "Fumos!" Keira quickly disappeared from view as a dark richly colored blue haze billowed from William's wand, effectively providing him with an escape. He grabbed his bag and cloak before silently gliding through the smoke and whispering to her, "'Twas lovely speaking with you, Miss Nightfall..." He continued, whispering in the opposite ear and making his lips brush it, knowing it would infuriate her, "I look forward to our next meeting..." With that he disappeared in the navy smog, heading to Honeydukes Sweet Shop for his shift...

Keira glowered as her spell was reflected, having wanted to see the look on William's face right before his head was encased in a pumpkin. At least that would have shut him up for a few seconds.

"I do believe that it is my turn, Miss Nightfall"

She prepared herself for an attack spell, a jinx, or something of the sort, but instead of pointing his wand at her, he suddenly had pointed to the ground.

"Fumos!"

The blonde Slytherin girl was suddenly surrounded by thick blue smoke. She couldn't see even an inch in front of her face and it burned her eyes slightly. She coughed a few times after breathing some of it in.

"'Twas lovely speaking with you, Miss Nightfall..."

He was whispering right in her ear and she could feel him breathing down her neck. Not only that, but he was so close that he was touching her ear with his lips. It infuriated her as well as made her uneasy.

"I look forward to our next meeting."

She swung around and furiously fired a blast in his direction. The flash of light illuminated the smoke like a thundercloud, but William had already gone.

As the smoke cleared into more of a haze, she could see that she was alone, and her spell had hit the library shelf next to her, knocking it over and scattering books all over the floor.
She picked up Flurry off of the ground, The cat's fur was standing on end and she gave one last hiss somewhere behind Keira, where no doubt William had disappeared.
Muttering angrily, the girl stormed out of the library, leaving the fallen shelf where it was.
