William was sitting with his back against a tree, soaking in the rays of the afternoon sun. He felt a lot better now that he was away from Angie and having to lie to her. He didn't know how much more of it he could take. He couldn't keep lying to her, and oh when Edan found out it was going to be disastrous! For now he was somewhat content, he closed his eyes and felt the slight warmth of the sunbeams caress his skin. That calming draught he'd taken was doing wonders for him... "I wonder if Corbly is going to take me up on my offer and come out for some practice?" he asked himself "Well, even if he doesn't it is still a nice quiet, relaxing afternoon... it is even a bit warmer than it has been!" He sighed contentedly as he stretched out like a cat on his blanket he had brought with him. He could stay like this forever, all he was missing was Keira by his side. A small clump of snow fell out of the tree above him and landed on his head, soaking his perfectly mussed hair. He shook his head violently before casting the hot-air charm to dry himself. He suddenly thought of Keira... she had used that charm to warm him up after he had collapsed in the snow... He wanted to tell Angie that the rumor she had heard was half-way true! that there was a fight between Slytherins... there was a fight over him, but she never believe it, she might even hate him! He just wished that everyone could get along and that they could all be happy... |

Corbly ran through the halls and, with some effort, pushed open the heavy doors to the grounds. Ever since he had left the Great Hall that morning he had been running along the halls trying to find his sister, but he hadn't found her yet. He wasn't too disappointed, he knew he would find her soon, and he HAD found some pretty amazing things instead! He had seen a talking statue, he had come across a hallway filled with living paintings, and he had seen some of the Hogwarts ghosts! After all of his wanderings, he hadn't even explored half of the school, and he still couldn't find his way back to the Ravenclaw tower. The moving staircases were very tricky to get used to. He had been riding one of them when he had suddenly remembered that William had promised to teach him cool stuff, and then ran to the next one, which, luckily, had decided to go down to the main floor. The small boy raced eagerly outside, pulling his knit hat down to keep it from falling off. He stopped in the middle of the grass and looked around. Where was he? He walked around the grounds slowly, stepping over branches and climbing over large boulders. He suddenly spotted a figure lying down beside a tree. "Will-iam!" The first-year said loudly, grinning as he raced over. |

"Will-iam!" The lanky Ravenclaw lifted his head and looked around for the young voice calling his name. After a moment or two he spotted a small boy with a tuft of blonde hair that stuck out from under a rather warm looking knit hat. "Hello, Corbly!" he said as the first year Raven got closer. "Come to take me up on my offer, have you? Well I certainly hope I don't disappoint you!" As the younger boy neared, he once again thought about his familiarity, and his uncanny resemblance to two certain blonde ladies he knew... "Please, sit!" he said, patting the large blanket as he himself sat up and took a crosslegged position. "I should like to teach you some transfiguration today... this particular spell is more useful when your surroundings are darker, but it will work well enough in this light... Before we start though, you said you have a sister... I think I know who she is, but I can't be sure until you tell me her name." |

"Hello, Corbly! Come to take me up on my offer, have you? Well I certainly hope I don't disappoint you! Please, sit!" The young boy happily plopped down on the blanket beside him. He was about to bombard William with eager questions about what he was going to teach him, but luckily for William, he answered it before he had the chance. "I should like to teach you some transfiguration today... this particular spell is more useful when your surroundings are darker, but it will work well enough in this light..." A transfiguration spell! The boy's eyes had lit up. He didn't know much about transfiguration, but he knew it was his sister's favorite spells. And he wanted to learn a spell so badly that he felt like he might explode! " Before we start though, you said you have a sister... I think I know who she is, but I can't be sure until you tell me her name." "Her name's Keira," Corbly replied while eagerly pulling his wand out of his robe pocket in preparation for the lesson, "She's in Slytherin!" |

"Her name's Keira," Corbly replied while eagerly pulling his wand out of his robe pocket in preparation for the lesson, "She's in Slytherin!" So my assumptions were right all along... "Ah, yes, I am VERY good friends with her! My luck is very hit and miss with you Nightfalls... Your sister and cousin adore me, but your father tried to kill me... Oh well... you can't win them all." William chuckled a bit at his joke. He was still a bit shaken up from the ordeal at the shrieking shack, but he didn't want to worry Corbly with the details." William pulled out his own wand now, over 14 inches of magical ebony glinted in the sunlight as he caused sparks to form when he moved it about. "Okay Corbly, we're about to begin. I am what people call a 'Spell-Weaver'. I make up my own spells, perfecting them and making effects that no other spells have done in the past, completely different incantations, wand movements, the works! This spell is one that only I know, so when you use it, please do not tell anyone or shout it out, as I'm not ready to publish it. This spell causes the very shadows to come alive and do your bidding in a duel!" William cleared his throat quietly and pointed his wand at Corbly's shadow, "Umbra!" he said before pointing at the tree, "Violare!" He watched as his spell worked! Corbly's shadow seemingly stood up and began to move as if solid! It looked the same as before, but it had small claws now; it wasn't a duel winning spell, simply something to frighten the opponent and maybe buy a little time, but it was wondrous all the same. He watched for Corbly's reaction as his shadow began punching and slashing at the tree, leaving small gouges in the bark. After a minute or two, he pointed his wand again, "Finite Incantatum!" |

"Ah, yes, I am VERY good friends with her! My luck is very hit and miss with you Nightfalls... Your sister and cousin adore me, but your father tried to kill me... Oh well... you can't win them all." Corbly looked up when William said he was good friends with his sister, his eyes glowing. "She doesn't know I'm here yet, I've been looking everywhere for her! Have you seen her?" The small boy asked, peering up at him. If he was good friends with Keira, then maybe he would know where he should look! His smile disappeared when William mentioned his father and he blinked. ...Was he being serious? He knew his father could get angry sometimes...very angry.... but he wouldn't try to kill anyone...! And why would he try to kill William?! He couldn't tell if the older boy was joking or not, but it definitely was a strange thing to joke about. This spell causes the very shadows to come alive and do your bidding in a duel!" The boy's blue eyes widened and his thoughts of his father were pushed aside, replaced by his uncontained excitement. "I won't tell anyone, I promise!" he said eagerly. "Umbra!" Corbly watched closely, completely absorbed as William pointed his wand to his shadow, then the tree, "Violare!" Corbly's mouth opened in disbelief as his shadow suddenly manifested off of the ground. The dark figure rose to the same height as him, and its form appeared identical to the boy's... except it was equipped with a pair of razor-sharp claws. "Woah...!" Corbly sat up suddenly as the Shadow-Corbly suddenly leapt towards the tree and began lashed out at the bark with punches and slashes, tearing it to shreds. He had never seen a spell like this before... it was so cool! Cool didn't even seem to cover it, it was the best spell he had ever seen! Way better than the color-changing spell he had been trying to perform in the Great Hall! "Finite Incantatum!" The figure suddenly flew back and melted into the ground beside the blonde-haired boy; becoming a normal shadow. Corbly placed his hand on it as if testing to see if it was real, but he felt nothing but the soft blanket underneath him. "Woah! How did you do that?!" He spun his head around and asked, his eyes amazed and excited. "Could you teach me how to do that too?" He didn't know where to begin, not having performed a successful spell before. |

"She doesn't know I'm here yet, I've been looking everywhere for her! Have you seen her?" William sighed, "No... I haven't... not since our weekend at my Gram's in the country. I could try to contact her her if you want me to, though. I can send my eagle or my patronus to find her, but that is up to you. She's been feeling a bit down these past few days..." William half mumbled the end of his thought, the events of his meeting with their father once again coming back. "ever since... it happened,,," William smiled suddenly, changing the subject, "So! More about this spell! It is a transfiguration charm for one, the incantation basically means 'Shadows, injure!' so it is kind of a combination of an animation charm, a steelclaw spell, and a spell ordering it to fight. It took me quite some time to get it right... even longer than my sandstorm spell..." "Here. Start small." He said, conjuring a small doll out of some grass and twigs. "use the motion I showed you, along with the knowledge of what the spell actually does, and cause the doll's shadow to attack.... That branch!" He said as he animated a branch to walk around. |

"No... I haven't... not since our weekend at my Gram's in the country." "Oh, ok." Corbly replied, he stared up at the castle, a little disappointed. He had thought he would have found her by now... he should have sent her a letter and told her he was coming. Where could she have disappeared to? "I could try to contact her her if you want me to, though. I can send my eagle or my patronus to find her, but that is up to you. She's been feeling a bit down these past few days... ever since... it happened,,," Corbly could barely make out the last phrase, but his eyes brightened. "Ok!" It sounded much better than having to run around the castle again, getting lost or stuck riding on the moving stairs. Not that he minded exploring, but what if he never found Keira? "So! More about this spell! It is a transfiguration charm for one, the incantation basically means 'Shadows, injure!' so it is kind of a combination of an animation charm, a steelclaw spell, and a spell ordering it to fight. It took me quite some time to get it right... even longer than my sandstorm spell..." "You made a sandstorm spell?!" Corbly gaped in amazement, imagining how awesome it would be to be able to whip up a huge, raging dust storm with just a single spell. William must know everything about spells to be able to do that! "Here. Start small." Corbly watched as he used a pile of grass and twigs and morphed it into a tiny doll figure. "use the motion I showed you, along with the knowledge of what the spell actually does, and cause the doll's shadow to attack.... That branch!" William made the branch walk around. Corbly held out his wand eagerly and pointed it at the doll. I can do this! He thought excitedly. William had made it look so easy... "Um...brella? Vioooo...lar-ray!" The boy waved his wand wildly and then abruptly stopped, pointing at the ground near doll and then the branch. A ray of strange orange light shot out from his wand and impacted withe the ground, but instead of raising a shadow, it left a large black singe mark in the grass. "Oh..." Corbly looked up at William and back down at the charred grass. That hadn't happened when he had casted it! |

William's Golden Eagle patronus streaked off over the grounds in search of his girlfriend. According to Corbly, Miss Nightfall didn't know her brother had received his letter. The patronus said nothing about the boy, William figured that he would want to tell her himself and that he wasn't going to get in the way of that. It WAS big news after all, and not his news to tell... All he had said was that he needed to see her immediately. "You made a sandstorm spell?!" "Yes, I did!" William said with a laugh. "I was actually putting the finishing touches on it when I officially met your sister" William smiled as he remembered the day in the library. It seemed so long ago now, even though it wasn't. "It was quite... explosive... our introduction." he said, giggling a bit. William watched as the boy tried the spell, without much success "Um...brella? Vioooo...lar-ray!" "Almost, Corbly!" He shouted encouragingly, "You got the second word almost perfect! you only stressed the wrong syllable, other than that, Violare was perfect! Now about the first word... it isn't Umbrella... it is 'Umbra' like Ooom-Bruh! So try it again." He said gently..." Remember... 'Ooom-bruh Vio-LAH-ray! You can do it!" |

Corbly watched in awe as William summoned his patronus and it took off into the air. That was a cool spell too, he hoped he would get to learn it someday! "Almost, Corbly!" He shouted encouragingly, "You got the second word almost perfect! you only stressed the wrong syllable, other than that, Violare was perfect! Now about the first word... it isn't Umbrella... it is 'Umbra' like Ooom-Bruh! So try it again. Remember... 'Ooom-bruh Vio-LAH-ray! You can do it!" "Ooom-bruh," the boy repeated quietly, trying to get the pronunciation right. Oom-bruh, oom-bruh! Umbra... Vio lah ray? Violahray. Violare... This was more difficult than he had imagined, but he tried his hardest to remember, his face scrunched up in concentration. Why were spell incantations so difficult to say? Couldn't they just say the real words and make it work...? Corbly stared at the doll intently, his wand raised again. Oom-bruh, remember? "Umbra..." The boy pointed to the ground by the doll, then the stick again and lashed his wand back and forth rapidly with no clear gesture, "Vio...lare!" There was another burst of light, this time purple and it caused the ground to glow before it faded away. Corbly's eyes narrowed in slight frustration. What had he done wrong this time? He had concentrated really hard on saying the words right, just like William had said! |

William watched the spell mis-cast and chuckled at bit, remembering when his uncle first taught him a spell the week before he left for Hogwarts. "Ok, Corbly! You nailed the incantation, but you added a bunch of extra wand technique which threw off the effect. You are doing well though... this is a tough spell, especially for a first year, Ravenclaw or no. This time, just point," He said demonstrating, "and point!" He gave the small boy a pat on the head. He rather liked having a protege. It made him feel like he was doing some good, helping others. Maybe Liz was right, maybe he would just find what felt right.... maybe he already had.... "You'll get it right, soon! I can feel it in my bones, Corbly!" William wondered if his patronus had made it to Keira, or if she had even recognized its form. He couldn't remember if she had seen him cast it in the Shrieking Shack or not. Surely she'd recognize his voice though... wouldn't she? |

Keira walked slowly across the grounds, the grass crunching under her boots as she followed the direction the Patronus had flown to and disappeared. She pushed a loose strand of blonde hair aside as the wind blew lightly across the field, and her face was emotionless as she scanned the clearing. Where was he? She suddenly saw him, a tall figure in the distance standing beside a tree, but before she could feel happy about finding him, she noticed that there was a smaller figure beside him. From this distance she couldn't recognize who it was, and uncertainty and panic raced through her already shot nerves. Why had he called her when there was someone else here? Hadn't they agreed that they were not going to let anyone know about their relationship yet?! Oh no... did someone find out?! Was it the Gryffindors?! The girl was practically frozen in place, not sure what she was walking into. But... wouldn't he have warned her if something had happened? |

The smell of lavender whirled under William's nose, carried by the breeze from somewhere on the grounds. It was pleasing to him, it reminded him of Keira and brought forward pleasant thoughts of their time together. He looked up, searching for the source of the scent when he saw her! It was all he could do not to scream her name and wave rapidly, anything to express his excitement and joy of seeing her. Instead, he simply beckoned, a slight smile on his face and a reassuring posture. He wasn't scared or worried, only happy. He hoped she saw that... However, even from afar, he could tell what the last few days had done to her. She was slouching, and almost hollow looking, it made another wave of hate for her father to course through him. She was still beautiful, her blonde hair cascading down her back, her face free of blemish. She was perfect... he made up his mind to tell her that as soon as she neared... she looked as if she needed to hear it, and he didn't mind saying it... |

Keira's panic melted away as William had turned and looked in her direction, his slight smile seemed bright and welcoming. She suddenly wanted to run to him and throw her arms around him; Not being able to see him had been torture. She had only been back at Hogwarts for a few days and already she felt as if it had been forever; a never-ending reminder that her and William wouldn't be approved of by the majority of their friends and classmates. That on top of being reminded of what her father had done had pretty much tore her to pieces. But at least William was here now; seeing him again filled some of the dark emptiness she had felt inside. As long as she could see him, she felt like everything would be ok. She managed to slow her pace to a quick walk, since it hit her that they were in the middle of the grounds where someone could see them. She still didn't know who the small figure was; he had his hair covered under a hat, his back turned and appeared to be concentrating very hard on something, lashing his wand back and forrth. By his small stature, he seemed very young, more than likely a first-year. Why had William brought a first-year with him? |

He wanted to master the spell, even if that meant having to try it over and over again. Corbly was concentrating hard on the spell. "Umbra, Violare!" he said, trying to point his wand the way William had shown him. "Umbra Violare… Umbra Violare!" The doll's shadow remained motionless, but Corbly wasn't going to give up. He tried to remember all of the things William had shown him focused on them each time his spell misfired. Corbly was attempting the spell for the tenth time when he heard someone walking behind him… The boy turned his head and his eyes lit up suddenly when he saw who it was. "KEIRA!" |
