The black cloak billowed in the wind as his steps crushed the dying grass on the grounds. The landscape would be brown soon, but only momentarily, almost immediately it would transform into a pure white, cloaking the countryside in bright snow drifts. Already his breath was a visible vapor in front of him, coming out faster than normal because of his frustrated huffing... William kicked the small mushroom that dared grow in his path, he was angry, confused, but most of all... hurt. He couldn't tell his friends of his and Keira Nightfall's relationship without them blowing their tops and he hated it! He had been able to deal with it at first, but it had grown steadily in difficulty almost to the point he felt that he would go insane! He knew why Angie hated her, but wouldn't the fact that she had saved William's life be worth something?!? After all, she mainly held her disdain because of Edan and Keira's match in the dueling club, Keira's arrows had been overkill, but she had saved William's life.... TWICE! The slack in the cloak tightened as he pulled it closer around him, wanting to feel the warmth. He realized that he didn't know where he was going, but then again, he didn't really care. He just needed to move and walk around to take his mind off of things, to distract himself from his and Keira's predicament of having to keep EVERYTHING a secret. It was beginning to tax his patience and had already deeply hurt her... His cheeks were red as he reached the little bench on the grounds. He didn't know why he came here but he did. The afternoon sun was shining down on him, the rays barely warming him as he nearly lost it, barely holding himself together. He wanted to tell Edan or Angie so badly, but he was scared... terribly scared of what they'd say... |

The gravel crunched underneath Angie's feet. Autumn was here, and winter was coming soon, that much was clear from the sharp, cold air. Angie smiled as she blew into the cold air, watching vapor appear. This was the best part of being outdoors. The cold, crisp air feeling almost minty as she drew it in. It smelled of Christmas and snowmen. Angie had decided to escape the castle for a little while, instead just taking a walk in the grounds. She had a broom down by the Quidditch pitch, and Angie had been considering fetching it. Now, she didn't play, but flying was fun. The feeling of soaring through the air had always appealed to her. Just as she decided to head for the pitch, Angie spotted a familiar figure sitting on a bench, not too far ahead. William? Well, no flying right now, then. Hanging around William was more appealing. Almost skipping, Angie headed towards the older Ravenclaw boy, crossing the brown grass. As the distance grew shorter, Angie realized that William's posture was different today. He seemed almost disturbed. Ever since the meeting in the Great Hall, Angie had been a bit concerned about her friend. There was something weird going on. Did it have to do with the Shrieking Shack being smashed up a bit? That could be fixed, after all. He'd been talking about exploring it before, so it could be that. The reaction hadn't come until after Angie'd brought up the strange rumors, after all. Still, it was quite the overreaction. "Hi," Angie said, as the reached the bench. "What's going on? You okay?" She sat down next to the other boy. |

"Hi," Angie said as she approached him on the bench. "What's going on? You okay?" she asked, sitting down beside him. William had looked up as he heard the gravel crunching and he saw the figure of one of his best mates walking over to him and sitting down. Oh, Great! he thought as the questions came. It had taken everything to get away from her in the Great Hall the other day, and here she was again! Stop that, William! She is your friend and she sees you here looking like you've seen a ghost! She just cares is all! It took everything to make his voice work, not wanting to slip up and give anything about his secret relationship away, "N-no... I'm not okay..." He said honestly, and it was true, he felt terrible, he felt like his insides had come alive and had a mind of their own, reipping and gnashing away to make him feel worse. "And a lot of things are going on..." He suddenly felt like it was going to be the end of the world if he didn't talk to someone about at least parts of his issues; he needed someone else to help him. He was going insane with all the the emotions running through him, all of the doubts and fears. It was torture! "Angie... I'm going crazy... this whole month has been just awful!" Tears started trying to surface, but he held them back. "Everything is falling apart, I am falling apart! My grades are dropping, my small social life is disappearing, and I've been in two all out fights!" Ooops! He hadn't been able to stop. He knew that that last bit about the fights was a terrible mistake, if only there were someway to take it back... He coughed in an attempt to recover, "I-I'm sorry..." he said, starting to rise, "I oughtn't be troubling you, you have enough problems at the moment, just forget it. In fact I feel better already!" I'll use the excuse from before, the one I used in the Great Hall... "I think I'm just trying too hard, I must be too overworked, that's all. I'm just snappish from a lack of sleep. Sorry you had to deal, I'll be off now..." |

As her friend started talking, Angie kept quiet, a concerned look upon her face. It seemed wrong, somehow, to say anything. William was finally talking, and Angie was reminded of something her mother used to say: You always feel better once you get it off your chest.. Then he stood up, as if he was going to leave. All right, the bench was fairly cold, but that wasn't it. No, he was running off again. Like, Angie realized, he'd done once before. "No," she said quietly, gripping his sleeve, pulling him back down towards the bench. "Look. A blind man would know you're not alright. Overworked? I've seen you overworked," - and she had, last year had been his OWL year after all - "and this ain't it." Holding onto his arm, worried he'd might try to bolt again if she let go, she tried keeping her voice calm and soothing. This was a side of William which Angie hadn't seen before. "I can tell something's bothering you, and I don't think shutting up about it is going to help. Just... say it as it is!" Smiling mischievously, she added: "I can even hug you if you think it helps." "All right, life's tough sometimes. But there's no need making it tougher than it has to be." Angie leaned down, picking up a pebble between two fingers. "Frost," she said, watching the ice melt in her hands. William really seemed to be falling apart. If she was to be completely honest, Angie felt a little uncomfortable at the thought. She wasn't her brother - she wasn't good at the Supportive Speech. Though, if she had to try, she would. And William wasn't alright, no matter what he might say. Then she realized William had said something very uncharacteristic. "Fighting? You've been fighting?" |

William readily accepted her offer of a hug, almost falling over into her arms. He didn't care if it was sincere or not; he needed a hug badly... "Thank you..." he whispered, calming a bit. It seemed she hadn't noticed the bit about fighting, so he guessed that he was okay... "All right, life's tough sometimes. But there's no need making it tougher than it has to be." "But I'm not, and that's the problem... I'm miserable now because I'm holding the toughness at bay!" The tears threatened to come once more and he felt the need to leave before he said too much, "I d-don't want..." he was interrupted by Angie's most unwelcome and dreaded revalation... "Fighting? You've been fighting?" William tensed, the moment was here, the cause of the rumors and most of his pain. I don't have to tell her everything... I can just tell her about some of the happenings, not who was involved... "Yes..." he started hesitantly, "Three in the last month, but it doesn't matter they are in the past and no longer matter!" He was almost frantic now, desparately needing to change the subject. It was then that he was consumed by guilt, I lied to her! I lied when we were in the Great Hall! he couldn't help it he had to tell her the truth, maybe then some of the pain would be taken away, "Angie... I lied... the fight in the pub... it wasn't made up by some drunken Hufflepuff... I was there when it happened... in fact, it happened because of me..." He felt a little better, but now he knew the questions would come and hopefully, he could tell the story without names. "I almost died..." |

William tensed up again, and Angie frowned. He,of all people, should know that she wouldn't look down on him from getting into a fight? Sure, it wasn't the thing Angie'd imagine him doing, but still. Then her friend started speaking again. "Angie... I lied... the fight in the pub... it wasn't made up by some drunken Hufflepuff... I was there when it happened... in fact, it happened because of me... I almost died..." The fact that he had lied to her stung. Angie was opening her mouth to tell him off, feeling slightly hurt, when she realized what William had said last. "You almost died? Okay, who was it who did that to you? They're so going down!" Angie got on her feet, hands in her sides. "They almost killed you?" Her voice was getting louder, she realized, but they were outside anyway. No one was messing with her friends without regretting it, sooner or later! "Please don't say that was Nightfall. She has a habit of doing that, it seems." Sitting down again, feeling tense, Angie looked at William. "Tell me everything." Already she was starting to plan her revenge. |

"You almost died? Okay, who was it who did that to you? They're so going down!" Angie got on her feet, hands in her sides. "They almost killed you? Please don't say that was Nightfall. She has a habit of doing that, it seems. Tell me everything." "Calm down, Angie, it was almost two weeks ago, plus the other Slytherin hexed the hell out of them for me AND saved my life!" He was a little scared now, he needed to tread lightly, talking the mysterious benefactor up and their bravery until Angie was ready to lick their boot. "It wasn't Keira either... D-do you remember that duel from a couple months ago, the one where I fought that arrogant seventh year who thought he could beat me because I was younger and a Ravenclaw? Well, it was him. I was in the pub, and leaving when he fired a stunning charm through the window... the glass shattered and impaled me! I couldn't move because of the spell and I was bleeding out... the other Slytherin went after him, full force and injured him pretty badly, badly enough that Liz was spitting nails. Then they healed me... They saved my life, Angie..." He looked up at her before continuing... "The Shrieking shack was also part of my visit. I collapsed in the snow from blood-loss and hypothermia. The same girl who saved me dragged me to the shrieking shack, to let me rest and to warm me up. It was then that an adult wizard came and attacked me because she was with me, because he saw us wrapped in a blanket together by the fire, because he saw me... snogging her.... He nearly killed us both. I was hit with a stunning spell because I couldn't get my shield up in time and I flew into the wall, causing the building to collapse on us. Then, he basically disowned her because I was a Ravenclaw and left..." |

Angie sat on the bench, barely breathing while William told his story. Already, she could tell that this was one that would go down into Hogwarts Mythology. It was almost too good to be true! Now, she was determined to get a few of those herself, too, so it was certainly possible. Try as she might, Angie couldn't help but crack a wide grin when William reached the 'snogging' part of his tale. "Okay, okay," Angie said, when William had finished his story. "So, basically - the Slytherin vs Slytherin tale isn't only true, it involves you? Awesome! You owe me candy for lying to me though." That still hurt a little bit, but the story had taken Angie's mind of it. Mostly, at least. Poking his arm slightly, she added, in a teasing tone: "Snogging her? You were snogging her, in the Shrieking Shack?" She shook her head. "Oh, William, I thought you were more romantic than that!" Angie winked at him, to tell him that she was only joking. "Sounds like quite the adventure, that... Good thing your girl beat him up, but I think I still have to fill his underwear with bugs." Giving him a more serious look, she added: "But seriously... A Slytherin girl? As in, you... you're in love with a Slytherin girl? Can't imagine you'd snog her just to keep warm or something." The idea was, well, insane. Mind-boggling. William dating a Slytherin girl? Obviously she knew how to kick people's behinds, but still. She could be as great as Potter himself, and Angie would still feel a twinge of... wrongness. "Who is she?" Angie said quietly. "Do I know her? And the adult wizard? He's her dad or something, since he disowned her?" |

"Snogging her? You were snogging her, in the Shrieking Shack?" She shook her head. "Oh, William, I thought you were more romantic than that!" William waved her off, feeling a bit better now that had gotten it off his chest, "Yeah, yeah, yeah... snogging in a haunted house covered in a couple pints of my blood isn't what I had in mind, but the circumstances leading up to it made it more romantic than a dinner in the heart of Paris... not to mention the weekend we had at Grams..." "Sounds like quite the adventure, that... Good thing your girl beat him up, but I think I still have to fill his underwear with bugs." Giving him a more serious look, she added" But seriously... A Slytherin girl? As in, you... you're in love with a Slytherin girl? Can't imagine you'd snog her just to keep warm or something." William laughed, "Please do! Wretched boy! He was so immature, hexing me and leaving me for dead if K- she hadn't got there when she did, I'd be dead now... twice over... And of course I didn't snog her to keep warm... we snuggled under a blanket for that... we snogged because we love each other, silly goose. And I would think that house would not matter... we loved each other before it happened, the 'event' just brought us the courage to say it, plus she saved me from certain death!" William was feeling good, so far she didn't know that it was Keira, and even though she knew his girlfriend was a Slytherin, she didn't seem to put off by it. Maybe he had been wrong all along? "Who is she?" Angie said quietly. "Do I know her? And the adult wizard? He's her dad or something, since he disowned her?" William hopes were dashed where he sat. He must have been crazy thinking that Angie wouldn't care if she found out that the love of his life's name was 'Keira Nightfall', he was bonkers! he slowly drew in a deep breath, "Yes the man was her father and yes you know her, but Angie if you love me as a brother and best mate, please... please don't ask... please don't make me answe-" He suddenly heard a twig snap, his head flicking upward, his hand clutching his wand... |

Keira had been looking for William. She had wandered around the castle searching for him, all the while trying to avoid her nosy housemates who had become very insistent on walking with her lately. Why had they been following her? She didn't know, maybe it was because they had realized how down she had been before, or maybe it was because she kept disappearing from the common room, separating herself from them. … or maybe they had always been like that, and it hadn't bothered her until now, when she was trying to avoid them? Now that she thought about it, she couldn't be sure, but it didn't matter. She was just relieved that she couldn't hear clicking footsteps behind her or loud, snickering voices asking her where she was going. They didn't know about William, and they wouldn't understand... The blonde Slytherin girl wrapped her light green scarf around her neck, the chilling cold hitting her as she stepped out of the castle. She glanced around silently, her blue eyes calm as she searched for any sign of him. Last time he had called her to meet, he had been outside, so it only made sense to check. She strolled through the grass, walking around the grounds just to be sure. She hoped he wasn't in his tower… she wouldn't be able to reach him there. And what if someone saw her wandering around the castle and decided to snoop? She sighed. This was so difficult. They could barely ever be around each other, not with all of the students around. But, at least the others didn't know the truth… she didn't know what she would do if they found out, or how they would react… There! Keira saw William further ahead, sitting down. Her eyes lit up in having found him. She began to run towards him, unaware that Angie was beside him because he was blocking her view. "Will-!" Snap! A twig broke somewhere behind her. There was a movement out of the corner of her eye beside the forest... A dark figure. She spun around as it started walking out of the shadows of the dark trees. It slowly reached to its side and drew out a wand, raising it towards her. Keira had little time to process what was happening… to realize what was going on… but she had nearly froze, her heart pounding as she recognized who it was in the heartbeat the figure had stepped out into the sunlight. It was the boy who attacked William in the bar; the seventh year Slytherin. Keira's hand whipped to her wand and she drew it out, but before she could even utter a syllable a blinding light suddenly engulfed her as she was hit with his spell. The force knocked her backwards, where she was slammed against the hard dirt ground. For a few moments she struggled and gasped to breathe, the impact having knocked the air out of her. Her mind suddenly became fuzzy… where was she…? What was she doing here…? She couldn't think… couldn't think of a spell… did she know any at all…? She was locked in the effects of a confundus spell, unable to think properly...unable to react, unable to fight back… The figure shot another spell towards her, then another, violently striking his wand as if trying to slash the air into pieces. His eyes were blazing fiercely…cold and hostile with every step he took. Keira tried to get up an run, but it was no use. The green light hit her, painfully stinging throughout her body and paralyzing her limbs. She couldn't move off of the ground… couldn't even lift her head or shield herself… couldn't even make a sound. The figure was coming in closer to her, blasting spells that exploded around her in fiery lights...before the second spell struck her. And then everything started to go black... "Will-!" William locked onto Keira's voice seeing her and mentally shouting for her to go back, that Angie was with him, but to no avail... he was no telepath, and neither of the were occlumens, he sighed, knowing that it had only been a matter of when, not if... Suddenly he watched her be thrown to the ground! He automatically jumped out of his seat, his wand already sparking. He saw in horror as the slytherin boy who had attacked him in the pub! He screamed as he saw the explosions and more spells cast on his beloved! He let out an angry screech, part of his animagus form revealing itself. He raced to the boy, with fire in his eyes. This boy would wish he were dead! William wasn't going to let anyone touch Keira without paying dearly for it. His wand was up and slicing through the air before the older boy could react, thanks to William's surprising him with his eagle screech. Spittle flew from his lips as he snarled the incantation, not bothering using the spell as it was intended, instead using sharp gestures and turning it into an offensive force to be reckoned with. He wasn't playing the role of a nice little Raven anymore... Thick woody vines burst from the ground, thrashing wildly and searching for something to wrap in their deadly embrace. William conducted them like a composer would a masterpiece, using his wand movements to cause the vines to whip about, slashing the boy and disarming him! One of them caught his arm from behind and a loud crack was heard as the root-like vines broke it before beginning to coil around him tightly... William came closer to him, a feral look in his eyes. This was not her father, and he had attacked them before, this time there would be no holding back! He moved his wand in an intricate motion, causing several vines to constrict his chest and two of them to spread his legs as wide as possible. He was rewarded by the frantic screaming of the boy as several cracking sounds were heard by his ribcage and as he was forced to do the splits. The wind whipped by his ears as he ran, propelled by hatred and pent up emotions. He swung his leg upward, the momentum from the run carrying it to its mark with more swiftness than he thought possible. He smirked as his steel tipped italian shoes connected with the fork of the other boys legs, eliciting an extremely shrill scream which probably would have shattered glass! "You think that hurts? You just wait... I'm not done with you yet..." The snake begged in his now high voice to be let go, that he was sorry and that he wouldn't tell, but William would have none of it. "No, you will not get off that easily." He said, his vision turning red at the edges and narrowing to his goal... his goal of making sure that this FREAK never hurt Keira or himself ever again! He crouched before launching himself upward onto the vines and climbing them like a cat. He leaped to another of the earth's moving appendages, landing within inches of his unfortunate victim's head. he pointed his wand at his hand and muttered "Steelclaw". His nails elongated and changed form. His now one inch steel nails glinted in the afternoon sun as he brought them down across the villain's face, leaving bloody gouges in their wake, The boy was crying now, all pride forgotten as the pain and humiliation set in. "Awwww... what's the matter, snakie? You can dish, but you can't take?" William's voice changed, became deeper and more sinister, "I guess I'll just have to teach you then!" He barked. A bit of dust rose as William's feet slammed it, his backflip from the vines going okay, but his timing had been a bit off because of the movement. He pointed his wand at the boy and hissed, "Nosferoctum!" a loud bang was heard as a flock of vampire bats flew from his wand and began to descend on their target, sinking their teeth into their prey and licking at wounds already present. They screeched loudly as they fought over prime spots, their prey restrained and unable to fight them off. He was weeping now, his words unable to be deciphered as the vines kept moving and the bat biting. "Serves you right... " he said following it with a wizard swear and raising his wand. "DURO!" he watched as the vines and bats slowly stopped moving, stone working its way upwards like an infectious disease. "The staff can deal with you..." he said as the older boy's head was encased in stone, thereby completing William's horrifying statue of revenge. He felt the knees in his pants go out as he slid on the ground, racing to Keira's side. "Keira?" he asked, tears coming out the sides of his eyes, him no longer having to be focused on beating the other Slytherin, "Keira, say something!" He didn't remember that Angie was right there, and if he had of, he would not have cared. Keira was hurt. That was ALL that mattered right now "Are you okay?!?" |

There was a terrible buzzing noise in her head as the effects of the spells began to slowly wear off. She could hear screaming…somewhere in the distance, but didn't think much of it. Screaming, yelling, crying… it all blurred together into a jumble of noise that she couldn't make sense of. The buzzing in her head started to fade away… leaving nothing but silence. "...Keira?" The sound almost sounded muffled in her ears, as if it she was underwater, and the voice was far, far away in the distance. "Keira, say something!" She was starting to recognize the voice and hear it more clearly, pulling out of her unconsciousness. She shifted slightly, her hand still grasped around her wand, but her body still too numb to move much. "Are you okay?!?" Keira opened her blue eyes, the sun was blinding and blurry shapes were shifting back and forth until her eyes were able to focus. She could see a face peering down at her… William's. Tears were running from his brown eyes... "…William…?" She blinked, looking up at him. "….What-…?" She trailed off. What in the world just happened…? Her mind was still catching up as the effects of the spells were fading, and so much had happened at one time… it was like a blur. Flashing lights, pain, a dark figure… Dark figure…? Oh. The image came back, one after another until they seemed to race through her mind. The pieces came together… she had been attacked; attacked by that boy! She hadn't been able to fight back, or even call for help… his eyes had been blazing…an explosion...And then… Nothing; she couldn't remember. What had happened? She could feel pins and needles run through her arms and legs as she began to regain feeling in them. Her wand fell out of her hand as she released her grip, her muscle no longer paralyzed. It seemed like several moments until she could finally move her limbs fully, the pain ebbing away. |

"…William…?" She blinked, looking up at him. "….What-…?" "Shhh..." he said softly moving her hair from over her face. "It's me... I took care of him... He won't hurt anyone for a very long time, if ever again..." He took out his wand and made the end glow, moving it over her eyes, checking to see if she had a concussion. He then pointed it at her chest, "Rennervate!" he cast, the golden glow healing the paralysis... "Keira, is anything broken? Does it hurt anywhere? Tell me and I'll do the best I can to fix it, and if I can't I'll tote you to Liz myself!" He was so relieved that none of the blasting curses had hit her directly. If they had of gotten her... that boy would never walk, have children, or talk again... He suddenly stiffened, remembering that Angie had been with him! "Merlin!" he cursed under his breath "please be accepting of her, please be accepting of her!" he nearly silently pleaded.... |

"Shhh… It's me... I took care of him... He won't hurt anyone for a very long time, if ever again…" Keira was suddenly fighting back tears. She would've been dead… she hadn't been able to stop the boy… she had been completely helpless. The girl sat up suddenly and threw her arms around him… or tried to. A sharp, blinding pain suddenly shot through her left arm and caused her to nearly cry out. She bit her lip, so that it ended up sounding like more of a quiet whimper. "Keira, is anything broken? Does it hurt anywhere? Tell me and I'll do the best I can to fix it, and if I can't I'll tote you to Liz myself!" "…my- my arm…" She replied as calmly as she could through the unbearable searing pain. Her eyes were clenched shut as she tried to sit through it. Other than that, she was just sore all over; bruised on the back of her arm, her leg, her shoulder, and all down her back from being slammed against the ground. "Merlin!" he had cursed under his breath. Her eyes flew open in alarm at his change in tone. What? What was wrong…? |
