The sun shone brightly in the light blue sky, and though winter was knocking at the door, the day was fairly nice. The temperature was low enough for Abby to be bundled up in big, fluffy sweater her mother had made for her for Christmas, a pair of skinny jeans, and some Uggs she just had to have when she was visiting her home in England the previous summer. Still, the Saturday afternoon was a dream for the near-end of November. There hadn't been much snow, but there was a lot of rain. Still, the grass was dry, and though it was cool to the touch, Abby didn't mind it at all.

She lay back on the lawn, her arms crossed behind her head as a makeshift pillow, her gaze staring up at the nearly cloudless sky. The few fluffs that were drifting lazily across the blue expanse, Abby entertained herself with making shapes out of them. She had seen a rabbit, a bird, and even something that she swore resembled nothing less than a turtle poking half-way out of a toilet. The odd semi-hallucinations, though, didn't hinder the small, contented smile gracing her lips.

That was, until, she heard movement sounding from her right. The smile vanished from her face like a bad dream as she spotted none other than William Fowler. She tried to sink into the ground and make herself invisible. However, when she realized that wasn't working, she turned her head to the left and noticed a rather large tree. Darting up from her comfortable position, Abby dove for the tree and hid behind it, pinning herself to the rough bark. Now, let's remember that Abby wasn't the nervous type. However, her very recent crush on the tall Ravenclaw had butterflies fluttering around in her stomach if she so much as saw him walking down the hall. She didn't know what it was about him; she definitely didn't really go for the "nerdy birds" as she liked to refer to them as. Jokingly, of course. But hey, he was cute, and she knew him through some of the Gryffindor friends that he had. Not like they were best friends, but she at least knew him well enough to know his name.

Poking her head slightly from around the tree, Abby looked to pinpoint William's exact position. She noticed he was nearing her hiding spot, so went to maneuver herself to stay more hidden. However, her attempt to be discrete failed miserably, as it often did. The heel of her shoe caught on something sticking up from the ground, causing her to loose her balance. Waving her arms like a mad woman in an effort to keep herself upright, she once again missed her goal and toppled over backward, landing hard on her back.

With a groan and a facial expression full of pain and annoyance, Abby sat up and rubbed her lower back, looking toward the ground to see what had caused her to fall. When she saw the offender, she pointed at it and growled, as if to punish the thing. "Who put a root here!" Her mind had spaced why she had been behind the tree in the first place, too busy now focusing on cursing the thing for being in her way in the most colorful language she could think of.

Notes: I'm sorry if it kinda sucks, or if I god-modded. I haven't rp'ed in awhile, so I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. Also, I dunno how you feel about it, but I like visuals. So I made Abby an outfit *points down* there.

[[OOC: The god-modding you did was okay considering that you only had me be there and we had discussed this in your plot thread. We only would have had problems if you had spoken for me or done something other than walk. I would like to ask you to change something (and this is all my fault, not yours) We have been RP'ing like it is late fall/early winter, so it would be a big time jump to place us in late Jan. Other than that, it is great!]]

William was out walking, just to walk. He needed some air after everything that had happened recently. He was so confused. He didn't know what to tell his friends, Keira needed him more now than ever, and on top of it all, he had to constantly watch his back! He kicked a rock and smiled wistfully as he heard it *plunk* into the Black Lake.

He had a sudden urge to practice his spell-weaving, something to make his troubles go away, something to temporarily suppress his awareness of his problems. Something stronger than the cheering charm, but nothing nearly as powerful as a memory charm. Dangerous territory, he knew, but some things were worth it, and IF he did succeed, he could tell Keira about it and ask if she wanted him to perform it on her!

He headed toward the big tree on the middle of the grounds. He loved that tree, it had branches in all the right places and was perfect for just laying back and thinking right at the very top! He was nearly there when he caught sight of rapidly whirling arms followed by a pained groaning and a string of very naughty words. 'Blast! I can't go there now, someone would find out my hiding place!' he thought angrily 'But you should still go...' the compassionate part of him piped up 'What if they are hurt?' "Fine!" he quietly grumbled, "You win!" As he neared he heard the girl cry out "Who put a root there!?!"

Fire flared from his wand toward the so called 'root' and he watched as it shriveled and turned to a small pile of ash. "That was no root... that was a whomping willow sapling. You are lucky to be able to walk! The roots of the parent must be spreading... I shall have to tell the headmistress, and she'll likely say that new wards will have to be placed on the grounds to contain it..." He muttered a few more things, mostly theories of how the Whomping Willow was able to circumvent the old wards before he realized that he was ignoring the girl.

"I'm sorry! Where are my manners?" he said offering her a hand to help her up off the ground. "I'm William Fowler. You're Allison, right? Op! Nope! Scratch that, Abigail?" he said the second name in more of a questioning nature. "I'm sorry... I really am terrible with names. I even mix my cousins up most times."

Abby could do nothing but stare as William approached her, speaking after he rid the ground of the offending root. Or, willow sapling, as he had said. It made no difference to her. At some other time with someone else speaking to her, she might have made a note of that and filed it away for later, making sure to watch her step as she walked around the grounds. However, the object of her daydreams was fast approaching and she was finding herself quite unable to move.

When he offered his hand to help her up, Abby slowly lifted her arm from the ground and placed her slim hand in his, allowing his aid. She was such in a tizzy, too busy staring at him, that when he mispronounced her name, she didn't even catch it. "Uh-huh" and a nod was all that came from her, but then when William corrected himself, Abby blinked and shook her head. "Snap out of it, Brooks," she thought to herself. "Now is not the time to act like a nut job!"

Shaking her head again, and blinking hard, she lightly shook his hand, the appendage still being in her grasp. "Uh, yeah. Just Abby, though. Abigail sounds so like my grandmother. Who I was named after on my dad's side. They thought of naming me after my grandmother on my mum's side, but she's German and her name is really hard to pronounce. I still have issues with it sometimes. So instead, I got my first name from the one grandmother and my middle name from my other grandmother's middle name. Mix of languages is always fun..."

And then Abby mentally kicked herself, realizing that she was rambling. Again. She was used to doing such things around her friends, and they were just as accustomed to it. However, doing that sort of thing in front of your crush was something that was incredibly embarrassing. A rosy color spread over her cheeks and across her nose. She ducked her head, trying to hid herself behind her dark curtain of hair. She shoved her hands into the back pockets of her jeans and concentrated on staring at the ground. Or William's shoes. He wouldn't know the difference.

Clearing her throat, Abby started chewing on her bottom lip. A nervous habit she had picked up from when she was younger; not noticing she was doing it until the skin started to peel. "So, yeah, William. You know some people I know, I think." Yeah. She sounded real intelligent. She almost prayed for some sort of distraction, like the sapling root coming back up and tripping her again, just so she wouldn't have to sound even more like an idiot, never mind that she would look like one. But then her hormones kicked on and argued that if that happened, she couldn't stand there and try to make civilized conversation with the one person she had been ogling from afar for months. Damn teenage problems.

I tried to fix the time of the year, but it wouldn't let me edit. So I'll just pretend. :)

William's mind went to work, something it normally did, and set about deciphering what the girl had begun to babble. She was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers, she was of partial German descent, and liked going by her nickname. He could tell that she had embarrassed herself, for she had looked away swiftly and before she had, her face had erupted with a scarlet glow.

He chuckled, "Yes, I do believe I have seen you in a mutual circle of friends before. I befriend people from any house, though I will admit that most of mine are from Gryffindor. Apparently my fellow Ravenclaws feel betrayed when I befriend other students, or some other such nonsense. I forget how many things they have spouted as excuses in the past." He chuckled quietly, "They really are just mad because I won't join their lecture clubs to swap notes with them. I'd rather just keep a few great friends I can trust, rather than a gaggle of acquaintances anyhow."

He turned to the Abby, "What about you? Surely you're not forced to be out here alone? It is a nice day today, but from what I've seen, you are usually are usually in the middle of a swarm of scarlet and gold clad students." He noticed that she was staring intently at the ground, or maybe her feet, or was it his feet, it didn't matter. "Is your ankle okay? I could put a splint on it, or escort you to the hospital wing if you like. Whomping Willows, no matter the size, have a lot of power in them."
