This is to be a review build of the latest 109 to be released by Revell. It will be a warts and all review with an honest opinion as to how it is to build.

Here is the box top with its very nice artwork.

Like many other modellers I find Revells end opening boxes a bit of a pain. My solution is to tape round the box and cut the back to form a lid.

My only deviation will be to use RB Production seat belts and EagleCal decals for white 44 from NJG11 as I want to see how good a pallette this kit is for a single coloured aircraft as making a good job of a plain plane can be a pain. :)

Here are a couple of pictures of white 43 to show an example of what I plan.

The set I'll be using.

Also, this will be a back to basics build using a brush as much as possible to show whats possible without the need for an airbrush.

Just a wee update today.

Construction started. I decided to glue the fin tops and the upper wing parts together to help get a better seam. I have also glued the wheel well wallls in place as well as the radiator faces.

I have also attached the various parts to the cockpit floor and sides as well as removal of the moulded on seat belts on the back bulkhead.

An initail dry run of these parts along with the lower wing pieces show that fit is excellent and I cannot see any problems during the construction.

Although the parts are well moulded with wonderful detail and texture I am a little surprised that the pedals needed quite a bit of clean up. Not sure what happened there.

Next step will be painting the cockpit RLM02, picking out all the other cockpit colours before closing up the fuselage.

Hello!

Nice build, the cockpit should be RLM 66 not 02.

Cheers

Thanks Boris.
Yes I know I was going a bit early WWII when I was thinking about the cockpit.
Was it '43 they changed to 66?

Andy, the cockpit is lovely.

Steve , as a rule of thumb I usually go with 02 up to around late 1941 (just after BoB) and 66 after.
I think I read somewhere that the vast majority of 109s up the very early F1 had 02 interiors.
F2 onwards had 66 interiors.
HTH.

I think you may be right. I'm probably thinking of when the PanzerWaffe changed their base colour from grey to yellow.

I had some notes on the 02/66 debate somewhere. I remember that it was suggested the use of 02 was much less widespread than is usually assumed and 66 was introduced much earlier than is usually assumed.

Hello all,

I think that the change was made late 42, and IP was always rlm66

There's a comprehensive Luftwaffe painting guide on Swannys Models website, though opinions may differ :box:

Just a quickie as I haven't posted for a wee while.

Here are Radu's lovely seat belts that I will be making up tomorrow.

Once done I can then get the cockpit closed up and the fuselage halves together.

Put the flaps e.t.c. onto the wings. A dry fit of the wings to fuselage show a really good join.

I'll post some pictures of the cockpit tomorrow when they look a bit more interesting than plain grey.

Hello,

If you didnt know it the parts marked as not used 84 A and A26 should sit in front of the radiators in the wings to close them in on parts 92 and 84 the bottom parts of the wings, should have told you before but I forgot
