The inbox review is Here

Now that my workbench is in the post Telford phase, I've started work on the Trabi.

After two sessions on the bench I'm half way through the engine, the level of detail is stunning with lots of parts to work with.

Fit of parts is excellent, here are the parts test fit without any cement

Posted Image.

The main engine block has lots of detail but much of it will be hidden.

Posted Image

The underside of the chassis and engine have been painted with Revell acrylic (thinned with tap water) and Mr Hobby buffable aluminium paint.

Posted Image

No problems at all so far..

I'm starting to weather the engine with Flory Models washes because I want to build a Trabi that I drove around Berlin (mad paint scheme on the way). There are still more parts to come!

Thanks for looking in.

Looking good. I was perusing this kit just this morning in a model shop after perusing it in the catalog yesterday :)

Ooh, this is going to be good.
Any chance of a clue to the paintjob?

....and I'm still working on the engine! Having said that, I've finished and I've also got the axles in place.

And to finish off a bit of weathering with pigments to blend the colours in and give it a used look.

It goes without saying that the level of detail out of the box is amazing. I think the only thing that could be added is a bit of wiring.

Thanks for looking in.

I never realised they had such a mega expansion chamber, bet they make a nice noise! This demo is tempting me to dig out my saloon version from the stash.

You can definitely hear a Trabant before you see it.

Here is the next update.

Over the past couple of days I've switched to the interior. Construction is a bit quicker here with less parts than the engine. I've had to take care of a few ejector pin marks on the rear parcel shelf but they were very shallow and all it took was a few swipes of the sanding stick.

Here is the floor with a few details added,

A quick test fit of the seats

And here the interior as it currently stands

Can't believe its been a month since I've worked on this, but the 5 trips to IKEA have kept me a bit busy.

The first coat of primer is on (after stripping a few previous attempts).

I'm happy to report that Alckad has given me the results I was looking for and it came with a free headache!!! I'll be glad to move back to acrylics.

Here are the paints I'll be using :)

Those colours would make it be like an Easter Trabunny.
