IPMS Revellation branch - IT'S OFFICIAL!

I don't know if this has been discussed here before, and please forgive me if it has and point me in the direction of the thread, but what would be the feeling among the forum membership, and Paul and the other leaders about Revellation becoming an IPMS branch, or a SIG even?

The main reason I ask is that if I'm honest, to this day I probably have more affection for Blue boxes than Red as once I had begun a paper round as a lad and my disposable income increased, the greatest joy for me was to be able to buy and build the Revell 1/32 range of aircraft, and my LMS in Camberley, long since gone, stocked what must have been almost the entire Revell range, in addition to Airfix and some Japanese manufacturers. I also enjoyed the Chopper bikes and Dragsters.

My greatest delight now would be to have many of the excellent Revell builds that appear throughout this forum displayed on a table at SMW, not to mention some of the other regional shows. I know that this would also mean some of us spreading ourselves even thinner than we do already in manning the Locate and Cement, Airfix Modelling SIG, Classic British Kits SIG, Coastal Command SIG, Tornado SIG and Cold War SIGs to name a few (are you getting the hint chaps?!).

The variety of Revell kits which are well represented on the forum here would make for a superb display that I know would be lapped up by the public.

There, I've asked the question and had me say. You can know tell me to wind me neck in as politely or otherwise as you see fit.

Cheers
(A very hopeful) Al,

I would certainly have no objection in principle, in fact a hint was dropped by a member of the EC after the forum was set up. I would be delighted to use the forum as a platform for somebody to run a Revell SIG, but it's not something I would be able to take on myself. You would need five signed up IPMS members to get it started (I'd be happy to include myself for that) and that is basically it. I think from an IPMS viewpoint they usually classify manufacturer interest groups as SIGs rather than branches.

I'd be up for it. Think I build Revell more than anything else now, as a forum there's quite a wide variety of genre's already been built.

Was planning to join IPMS this year anyway.

Certainly add me to the list :thumb:
I would do as much as I could to support the SIG but obviously with me running another SIG , being an admin of 2 forums and a website I would not be able to run it (as much as I would love to )
Happy to help and support in any way needed .
You need 5 IPMS members to start a SIG and I think you now have member number 5 :grins: :grins:

I'll throw my hat into the ring as a candidate for the SIG leadership (for the first year at least).

I'd propose the SIG be called the Revell Modelling SIG.

As soon as we have been accepted by IPMS I'd canvas opinion on which shows to attend this year and a theme for the initial displays (as practice), and more importantly for SMW2015 at Telford.

I ran the CBK SIG for a year so have a little experience. I'm more in to shows and promotion side of the deal but would definitely need help with the interweb based stuff. This is the main reason I ceased being an Admin. over on UAMF because I felt I was crap at the internet stuff (but I am willing to learn however - never too old for that, and my son is about to graduate in IT/Admin. this year so he will be on hand to assist me).

I'm also taking it as read that the RMS would be hosted here within the Revellations forum, in much the same way as CBK, CC and Cold Wars SIGs are over on UAMF.

I'm conscious that I don't want the RMS to become too UK-centric, but we will have to see how to address that for any overseas members as and when they join (I don't think it has ever been a problem with the CBK SIG, but I don't want people not resident in the UK to feel left out).

I don't want to seem like I'm rushing this, having only asked the question about it earlier today, but I'm impatient by nature unfortunately, and just want to get on with things.
I'm more than happy to let someone else be the leader if anyone one else wants it. I shall give them my full support also. If necessary we can put it to a vote depending how many members we have.

Let me know your thoughts please chaps.
Cheers
Al.

You'll need one more signed up IPMS member to get the show on the road unless you hang on for John to join up and get a member number (John, you could still take part in SIG activities even if you weren't a member). Al, I suggest you contact Phil Cater the IPMS UK Liaison bod. Contact details here: IPMS contact list

Id be up for joining. I get to quite a few shows in the Northern Shires and I'd be happy to help man the table and add a few models.

On the inter web front, let me know if you need any help.

I have just received the IPMS Returns for 2015 and as I'm not a SIG leader for anything else I guess that makes us official,
we are the IPMS Revell Modelling SIG.
I will add the first four founder members to the form - Paul, Andy Mike and John. We have two other members so far, Tom (TomW)
and Adam (Maverick321) from UAMF, who are the Coastal Command and Cold War SIG leader respectively.

I shall apply for tables for SMW this year where we will really try to announce ourselves and establish our presence. As many
of us have other SIG and Branch tables to support, but we won't go overboard and can use a selection of the many fabulous
built models we already have that I've seen on this forum, and scatter some older Revell catalogues about as well as some
bang up to date stuff too (sorry, I tend to gravitate towards the "Classic" stuff - force of habit I'm afraid). So, start spreading
the word chaps, it'd be nice to have more than 7 members by November - assuming I manage to keep you lot by then and haven't
been replaced in a bloodless coup - you forget - I haved been a SIG leader before! :box:

Cheers guys
Al.
