Revell 1/72 Sd.Kfz 7/2 and AA gun and ammo trailer (03207)

The in box review can be found here

First thing I did was prime the parts with a matt grey paint ( IDF Sinai Grey of all things ! :woo: )
The build starts off with constructing the wheel/tracks .....very straight-forward build sequence and everything slots into place perfectly .
I have not yet fitted the tracks ....I will do this later.

Stages 4 and 5 are were the front wheel and suspension are made ....some very delicate parts in this sequence ( part no24 ) . I would strongly suggest using a very fine razor saw to remove the parts from the sprue gates to avoid snapping / damaging the parts :thumb:

The main chassis has several bits and bobs added to it in the next few stages (7 , 8 and 9 ) , quite a lot of detail in fact ....fit again is perfect.
In stage 9 I added the track wheel / rollers to the chassis and everything lines up very nicely.

Stage 10 I added the front wheel assembly to the chassis and Ive left it to harden overnight.
So after a very short time this is what we have as we finish stage 10.

Note the Razor saw ...that is a must for the delicate parts ...using side cutters will probably stress the parts too much and cause them to snap

Excellent detail for such a small kit .
More soon .

Having been driven mad by removing and cleaning up half a set of Tiger Tank wheels yesterday evening....

That really does look like a neat little kit, I'm tempted to have a bash at my Special Armour Sd Kfz, but it has individual wheels!

Cheers lads ...its a cracking little kit ...maybe even a very good introduction to armour modelling.

Tonight I managed to get a little bit done ( its Valentines day ...if Mrs DH764 catches me in the Man Cave it could end in tears :box: )

I gave the tracks a lick of paint and I found them to be very flexible , in fact so flexible that I could of glued them to the wheels without the need to dip them in hot water as per the instructions.
They will need a couple of links trimmed to fit and other than that they are very easy to use. I will leave them off until Ive finished painting the wheels.

I skipped a few stages and completed stages 37 - 41 in which the ammunition trailer is made .
Construction was very easy and fit again is very good.
With a little bit of cutting you could easily pose the doors , parts 156 and 159 in the open position.
Took me about 45 minutes to complete the trailer.

Started the body of the "Skiddy Fizz " (Steve  )
Cab is made up of a seat bench , steering column and wheel and a few control levers.
A little bit of care is needed to make sure all parts line up correctly ie. 90 degrees to each other.
Don't forget to drill the holes for the AA gun on the flat back floor before attaching it to the chassis .
Also remember to add the tracks before adding the floor.
The tracks go on quite easily and I found no need to dip them in hot water , as I said earlier , they are already quite flexible . Normal poly cement was enough to fix them to the wheels.

Finished making the cab by adding the roof and doors .
After the roof was added I noticed the need for a little bit of Vallejo putty for the roof/windscreen join.
Detracting from the instructions Ive placed the doors in the open position , easy to do by sanding the mating surfaces of the cab and door frame.

I then added the bonnet/hood which is made from 4 pieces and fits together quite nicely....in the photo there is a step between the side and hood cover but I just needed to push the side in a little bit before the glue set .
A swipe of putty was needed to make the side of the hood flush with the main body.

Next thing I did was to add the sides of the flat back where the AA gun sits , you can have everything closed up or , as I have done , have the sides dropped .
All that is required is to sand off the locating pegs and then butt join the sides to the floor of the flat back.
While this was all setting I started on the 3.7cm Anti Aircraft Gun .
In no time at all I had almost completed the gun....just a few bits to add and it will be complete.
Some parts are a bit fiddly for my large hands so a pair of tweezers come in very handy for attaching the small parts , especially when adding the wing mirrors and driving lights onto the bonnet of the "Skiddy Fizz" Sd.Kfz 7/2 .

Andy

Ps in the last photo you may have noticed that someone has pinched its front wheels
.....fear not , there is no auto crime being committed in my modelling room :wicked: :D
I managed to snap off both wheels through sheer clumsy-ness !!
A blessing in disguise as I have now pinned them and they can be positioned offset for a bit of interest :coolio:

Conclusion

This is a gem of a kit :thumb:
I've enjoyed building this so much that I have recently bought a 1/35th scale version of this kit (a Trumpeter one )....only my second armour purchase in 1/35th ever....a fitting compliment to how good a kit this is.
The detail for a little armour kit is spot on , fit and ease of build also gets a thumbs up.
I would recommend this as maybe a first armour build for a novice .

Thanks to Revell for the review sample :thumb:
