In box review can be found HERE

Just a quick start tonight....painted areas that are Black with Vallejo Nato Black .

Ive added some thin strips of plastic card along the bottom join of one the fuselage halves for added strength because there are no locating pegs along that long seam....I think without a bit of extra gluing area its likely to split :hmm:

Thats all for now folks.

A good start Andy. It's a kit I'd like to build at some time, so watching carefully for hints and tips. No pressure!

Cockpit all done ...ooh...forgot to add the HUD :slap: Ill pop that on before I close the fuselage up.
Ive done the two seats and added Tamiya tape seat belts.

Onto the fuselage ......the upper part that contains the engine/rotor head is a separate part to the main fuselage (different Cobra versions...single and twin engine variants maybe the reason for this ? )
These join to the lower fuselage via three small tabs ....Ive added a few more from plastic card for extra strength.

The fit of these parts is not great to say the least....

Some filler required !! :)

Apologies for leaving this so long .....

Managed to get everything closed up but a bit of sanding and filler was required.
The cockpit looks quite busy but there is a huge gap around the rear bulkhead .....too big a gap to fill but thankfully because I painted the insides of the fuselage Black it makes it less noticeable.

The gun under the nose when fitted following the instructions is moveable but Ive elected to leave this off until near the end of the build to avoid awkward masking and damage to the gun itself.

Once the fuselage halves were joined I added the sensor "cheeks" which are a fairly good fit ...just a swipe of Vallejo putty to blend a few curves into the main body.
The engines have been added ....a mistake ! They are going to be awkward to mask off and paint now ....I would leave them until the end of the build as they fit well to the fuselage.
The intakes will need a swipe of the sander and may need a bit of filler.
Stub wings attached and the Cobra takes shape :)

Last thing I did was to make the rotor haed and blades ....some filling required but nothing major .
More soon .

Starting to look like a Cobra now :)
Rotors are just dry fitted at the moment.
I broke the shaft of the tail rotor so I replaced with a brass tube one ....it spins !! :D

Canopy is going to need lots of attention....fit is not very good. I will do a proper masking job next and then probably use PVA glue to flush join the edges of the canopy parts.
The fit of the skids was very good ...a firm and solid fit :thumb:

Real life has been getting in the way of my Modelling time and just when I had some spare time I went and pulled a muscle in my back :D
Nothing serious but sitting down for longer than 30 mins was a big no no :(
Ive now been "repaired" and Im raring to go again so .....

Painting almost complete !

Grey is Hataka Light Ghost Grey followed by a bit of Hataka USMC Field Green and a final few patches of USMC Night Black , again from the Hataka range of paints (USMC Helicopters set )

Paintwork is a mixture of airbrushed and hand painted.
Few bits of detail paintwork required and then Ill Klear it and its then time for the decals :)

All done !
Decals went on perfectly , even the shark teeth around the complex curves near the turret/nose.
I did give up trying to have the canopy open as there is hardly any contact area for the plastic parts to attach to even with the frame strut supports.
Canopies closed but you can still see all of the cockpit detail.

So in the end a kit that needs a bit of work but still worthy of building .

Helibobs are not really my thing, but that looks cool. With regard to the canopy, have you ever tried making 'hinges' from tape? You can do this so that it is barely noticeable if you conceal it in the right places. I have a roll of Frisk film that is virtually useless for masking on models, but it is strong and easily fixed with white glue. This method is also good for undercarriage doors etc, that have marginal contact areas.

Cheers matey :)

Forgot to mention that the canopy fit is not one of the best to say the least :fp:
Plenty of PVA glue to hide most of the gaps.
