My friend and fellow modeller Steve MCLaughlin gave me this Revell Vickers Wellington Mk II to build on the condition I would post a build review here and on the Facebook page. I am by no means an expert modeller so please be kind! It is built straight from the box with only the addition of the aerial wires.

Above is an image of the box art for the kit, which I understand originally came from MPM moulds.

Stage 1 involved the painting of the interior:

This was done quite roughly as I intended to use the option with painted over fuselage windows and not a lot would be seen.

Posted Image

By Stage 3 all of the transparencies in the fuselage side were fitted.

Posted Image

Stage 4 was the fitting of various radio and electrical boxes etc in the cockpit.

Posted Image

This was followed by Stage 8, the main wheel bays. I found the instructions a little unclear and painted the outside of the bays before noticing my mistake!

The next stages were to complete the cockpit area.

Once this was done I was able to move on to the construction of the two gun turrets. I found these, at approx 15 part each, a real pain. very fiddly and the multi part clear transparencies were difficult to assemble with no locating pins. Like wise when it came to closing up the fuselage the lack of good locating pins made this difficult to align.

Posted Image

As you can see from the image above there were a few gaps which would need filling. The wings also had no locating pins and again needed close watching for alignment.

Once the engines were fitted, again not a great fit, out came the filler!

Posted Image

Once the sanding was complete it was time to add the undercarriage assemblies and aerials. The main wheel gear is too wide for the bays and I had to resort to a bit of sanding to create grooves down which they would fit, then it was out with the hairy stick!

After a coat of Klear as a gloss varnish it was on with the decals, which happily went on well.

Posted Image

A second coat of Klear to seal them in then a top matt coat using a matt acrylic varnish and the addition of the aerial wires and job done! Overall I did not find this an easy build. main issues were the poor undercarriage assembly fit, the very fiddly gun turrets and the lack of locating pins. Still, though not my best work, it turned out not too badly.
