One of the fastest and highest aircraft ever flown Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 "Foxbat" is one of the defining icons of the Cold-War era.
Designed to counter the threat of the SR-71A which it could almost match for speed (M.3.2 but only for short periods and then on landing the engines would need replacing ! ) this aircraft had NATO very worried until the very famous defection of Viktor Belenko to Japan in 1976 gave the Western world a chance to examine one in great detail before "returning it to sender " :D

Revell have a good reputation regards their 1/144 kits so lets see whats in this box which has a very nice artwork on the front.

Looking through the contents of the box we find two sprues of grey plastic and a small clear sprue with the canopy on it.
Going to my first port of call when researching a kits origin , Scalemates tell us that this is a Revell moulding from quite some time ago , 1988 was the last time it was released.
This shows when looking at the parts on the sprue , which are a world away from the modern Revell 1/144 kits that have lots of interior and exterior detail , this doesn't even have any cockpit area !
Recessed panel lines are present but very little in the way of detail on the parts.

The usual Revell instruction booklet ....

Decals are of the usual Revell quality and are for one aircraft from a very recent stage in the MiG-25's service life.

Conclusion .

Not up to Revells 21st Century 1/144 kits but nevertheless if you are wanting a small scale Foxbat then this should be a nice addition to your ever growing Red Star collection .

Build follows.

Many thanks to Revell for the review sample. :thumb:

So lets get started :)
No big fit issues but a bit of patience lining parts up before gluing are essential .
The entire airframe is made up from 4 major parts ; the nose section forward of the intakes is a two piece vertically split assembly.
Simply just add glue as there is no interior at all ...not a seat , no pilot figure ...nothing !

The rest of the airframe from the intakes backwards is made up from two horizontally split pieces . Again just add glue.
The single piece engine area is very simply detailed and also very shallow which is a shame as this is a big feature on the real aircraft.
Twin tail fins , stabs and underfuselage strakes are now addedand in less than 25 minutes modelling time you have a very MiG 25 looking piece of plastic on your bench :D
You can see here the non-existant cockpit area.
Ive also added the four wing pylons.

Some putty/filler is required on the joins , not a great fit but Ive built far worse modern kits than this.

The undercarriage is very simple..... all gear being single piece with the addition of the wheels (ill add later).
I didnt fit any nose weight in the kit ....sits on all three legs at the moment though.

Just like a Lightning kit this stands upright and you can almost imagine it trying to catch a Blackbird at 80,000 Ft .

After a prime with Vallejo Grey I sprayed on a few light coats of Vallejo Light Grey which looks a good match for the real colour.
Cockpit was added and then everything sealed with klear before starting the decals which are quite nice and bedded down really well.
I damaged the Russian tricolor rudder marking while applying a coat of Klear....will need touching up.
Im just waiting for it to fully harden before starting to apply a light panel wash.

Yes its not the most detailed 1/144 kit but it certainly looks the part :)

Conclusion

A very basic kit that in some ways resembles nothing like the version on the box art , nevertheless Ive really enjoyed this and it certainly looks like Mikoyans "Blackbird killer" ( well thats what it tried to do anyway ! :D )
Great for a quick build or a mojo restorer .
