![]() At long last the RAF version of the Revell 1/48 Tornado has arrived. I know there are many people who have been waiting eagerly for this so without further ado lets see what you get. Rather than go over old ground I will focus on whats new in this boxing from the original IDS release, reviewed here - http://s13.zetaboards.com/RevellAtions/topic/7196951/1/#new Back of the box showing a built example as well as a sprue spreadout. ![]() Revells new glossy style instruction booklet, which I love. ![]() Decal placement guide for the boxart example. ![]() Many will be pleased with a second option of a line jet of 617 Squadron. ![]() Decal sheet. ![]() Instrument panel decals. ![]() Decals for each option. [img]http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy325/stevemclaughlan/Revell%20reviews/20151130_144027_zpsltrmoo6i.jpg[~original/img] And now the sprues that are specific to the GR.4. Sprue H (x2) which is the 2250 ltr. Fuel tanks. ![]() Sprue P which has the new spine section and RAF style belly pylons. ![]() ![]() Here you can see the GPS dome for GR.4's. If you want to do a GR.1 just use the original spine. ![]() RAF inner wing pylons. ![]() So far, so good with people wanting to build an RAF Tornado being very happy. But, and its a big but. Something vital is missing. Look here at the instructions, step 69a, to see clear part 173 fitting to the body of the LRMTS, which is fitted to EVERY RAF/RSAF Tornado. ![]() And here is the clear sprue. ![]() As you can see (or not as the case is) there is no clear part 173 making it impossible for anyone to build the kit as per the box. When I heard rumours of this I could not believe that Revell's quality control would be so lax as to allow this to happen. However, it has and I must admit to being very disappointed. Ever since Revell announced and released a new tool 1/48 Tornado many, many modellers, myself included, have been dying for them to release an RAF version. Now they have and the one thing they needed to get right (fuel tanks aside) and it has been Royally messed up. This will damage their reputation in the modelling community and put many people off buying this kit. I have emailed Revell to see what they are planning to do and I will let you know their reply. It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say that I cannot recommend this kit to anyone wishing to build an RAF Tornado as it cannot be done because of a fatal flaw. How Revell react to this remains to be seen. However, I am confident that they will resolve this as speedily and as efficiently as possible. Many thanks to Revell for the review sample. Thanks for the review, I'm impressed with the IDS and this will be on my list for 2016. (I'm sure I've made AJ-W for the Airfix 1/4 scale Tonka) and have plenty of Airfix kits to donate the vital part - come on Revell sort it out. I am really liking the change in instruction/guide formats. P.S. Just checked, I made AJ-G

The Revell web pages have photos of a completed kit with the missing part, this is conjecture, but seeing as Sprue 'F' is identical to the one with the GR1 kit, is it possible you have a kit with the wrong sprue? peebeep |

Just recieved from Sarah. Dear Sir/Madam I am very sorry to hear about the problem you are experiencing with our new Tornado Kit 04924. I have contacted our QC department and have discovered that this was a manufacturing error. The part is missing in all kits being produced. The purchase department has stopped all further orders and requested a separate production run on the clear part including part 173 now. I will receive the parts here in Tring and post them out to you as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions. Kind regards Sarah |
