Well finally started the kit and its been a very pleasant experience up to now..... A quick look through the instruction sheet shows a few little errors , Stage 2 , part A17 is actually part A6 and stages 19 and 20 (left and right wing tips) are reversed when they are added in stage 25. The photos of the built model on the side of the box shows the crew entrance (rear of gondola) in the open position but this is not shown in the instructions as an option at stage 59. Just a few niggles that might catch out the unwary. The Ju88 has often been described as the first multi role combat aircraft....a WWII Tornado !!.... and funnily enough the first sentence in the introduction and history on the front page of the instruction sheet reads ; "Just as the Tornado today represents the Multi Purpose Combat Aircraft , during WWII it was the Junkers Ju-88." I just cant get away from all things Tonka !! To quote every reviewer....I started with..... the wings !! ![]() Now here is a bit of a surprise ...the fit of the wing tips is not brilliant and will require a bit of filler. ![]() ![]() The cockpit is a work of art and very detailed for a kit in this scale , just seat-belts required here . ![]() The rudder pedal assembly really tested me as my fingers are rather large for this scale ....the scale is cm not inches BTW ![]() Fit is great and quite quickly we had a full cockpit assembled..... ![]() ![]() Definitely the best detailed cockpit of any aircraft I've ever built in 1/72nd . Sorry Ive forgot to photo the Radio assembly at the back of the cockpit ...again its superb and it would be a waste of money , IMHO , to replace it with resin. Tail-wheel assembled and added to the rear fuselage , which is made up from three pieces ; 2 side bits and the roof...excellent fit and only requiring a rub down with a sanding stick. ![]() ![]() ![]() A quick dry fit of the control surfaces showed a surprising amount of small gaps...we shall see what happens when it comes to cementing them together. ![]() More in a minute !! More....... Bomb aimers position ...... ![]() ....added to the fuselage floor..... ![]() ......which was then added to the rear fuselage , along with the wings , elevators and fin. ![]() Some quite large gaps appeared ... ![]() ![]() Im quite certain I had everything lined up correctly ....could be because of the rather complex nose/fuselage assembly which is so that Revell can release different versions of the Ju88 without having to use a separate brand new mould/tool for each version. A bit of filler needed but no real disaster .....up to now the build has been very quick and nothing bad to say about the kit ....well worth the £16 asking price....Good call Revell More tomorrow hopefully.....if this cold goes away.....sniff sniff Andy |

Thanks !! Made the engine cowl assemblies and added them to the wing.....quite a tight fit and just a bit of Tippex required to fill a small gap. ![]() Also added the wing control surfaces and their hinges , again a good fit . Next up I added the dive brakes and bomb racks under the inner wings. ![]() Some detail I missed when doing the in-box review........superb ! ![]() The "Continental" and wheel size references are very crisp even though each letter is less than 1 mm in size ![]() More soon. Never seen that level of lettering embossed on a 1/72 kit. amazing. Bit surprised about the fit of the wings though - would have expected a perfect fit for a brand new tooling. I hoped to see this kit in Hobbycraft today and get the 25% off with the Daily Mirror voucher but sadly not

Looks to be an excellently detailed kit. My only concern that for younger/less experience modellers fragmenting the fuselage into so many parts will cause frustration, not a problem if you know what you are buying. |

I would agree with you there James I can see why Revell have tooled it like this.....more versions to come ....but it does require a bit of extra care to avoid steps in the joins etc. On the other hand....cant wait for a Nightfighter G Andy |

Revell just keep getting better and better in the detail of there new moulds. Just like the 1/72 Tonka and the 1/48 Mosquito. As a chap who BOB's it ,its just a win win situation. And imo offer extremely good value for our hard earned green backs. Fascinating the detail off the cockpit. Dave |

Sorry to keep you waiting folks ......been busy as a bee lately. Not much added other than some foil seat belts , main undercart legs and Ive been test fitting the canopies which are a brilliant fit , the nose canopy actually clicks into place and stays there without glue....but I would recommend gluing it ![]() More soon... Neat interior Andy, never used foil for belts, is it easier than Tamiya tape? |

Coming along nicely, cockpit is ace.I have the old mould in the stash and was thinking of building it next but would need a lot of scratch building of the cockpit. Dave

First time Ive used the stuff myself !! I found that the foil can be shaped easier than Tamiya tape.
That is a very nice kit for its age.....build it !! Real life is getting in the way of modelling at the moment .....oh and also trapping my thumb in a letterbox has not done me any favours !!....If you are wondering why I would stick me hand in a letterbox.....Im a Postman Andy |

These new tool kits just get better and better, almost don't want to build my old tool '88 kit now! Oh and Airfix, watch out- Revell are beating you hands down at the moment!!! (perhaps Airfix had better hurry up re-tooling such kits as the Stirling before Revell decide to make one!) David. |

Up to a point, I think. Revell seem to be investing heavily on larger, more complex kits, but we haven't seen any significant new tool single seat fighters of any vintage, in any scale from them, whilst this is an area that Airfix are fixed on at the moment. In terms of bang for buck the new Airfix Hawk 81, Zero and Swordfish are outstanding. peebeep |

I for one am very glad both Revell and Airfix are turning out new moulds that are exceptional value for money. Airfix's new MiG 15 and Saber,P-40B 1/72 kits are exquisite as are Revell's RF4E,GANNET,JU88,LANCASTER in 1/72 and the MOSQUITO in 1/48. May it long continue. Dave |
