Hey guys... I was recently given a slew of car kits (only one Revell...sorry) and I'd like to participate in the GB. Problem is...I have no idea how to start a car kit. Colors for the bottom, wheel wells engine compartment etc...not a clue. Any suggestions hints or tips for a first time auto builder?? Thanks. |

more than happy to help whats the car you are thinking of doing? the easiest way is simply to do all the underneath/wheel wells in matt black and leave it, after all you are not going to be seeing it once its all done....i normally use a rattle can since its so easy ive also started using automotive rattlecans for the top coat on the shell, never used to but i wanted to do something in a metallic colour, couldnt believe how easy it was best bit of advice i can give is dont think of it as a 'car' kit....its just a box of plastic like any other genre of kit so dont let it intimidate you by being something you dont usually do |

Not made many cars but colours can vary type to type, perhaps if we knew which car it was we could offer more help. I would agree with the above but have never used rattle cans myself but can see their advantages. If it's a road car there are few restrictions as anything us possible. If it's a track car or similar hopefully the instructions would give guidance or if they din't some research on 'tinternet. Nothing ventured nothing gained Les and if you have specific questions or help I'm sure someone on the forum will be only to willing to give it. Hope to see you join in |

THANK YOU all for your offers of help. Ya gotta love this site for the friendly folks that frequent it. In reply to the question , my model will be a 69 Camaro Z28 RS. I've had these kits since July and never had a lot of interest in building them until now. I've just finished my last model of 2011, so this GB is perfect timing. Can't wait to get started.

I think as a general rule the chassis on this type of car are gloss black. Normally durring production the body shells are painted in there entirety before construction, whatever the customer has specified, some cars of this era may have have underseal applied. Hopefully the instructions may clarify. Construction of these kits tend to be engine; chassis; wheels and suspension then onto interior; glass and trim then the chassis and bodywork are joined in final assembly. Just proof read this post as I'm using an I Phone; was tempted to use the predictive version for a laugh, one of them was underwear instead of underseal, would that have been automotive porn or a Sexy Chevvie ?

I did not know that Revell and Monogram were both eligable for this GB. I also had two Monogram kits given to me. They are a 1970 Malibu SS (1980 kit) and a 1986 Monte Carlo SS (1986 kit). I just realized that I have a Monogram "Red Baron" kit also. Wow it never ends. |

I've started prepping my project by washing the "greasy" Camaro parts. I also started checking the parts on a possible alternative build. The header on this topic says any REVELL kit...so perhaps prepping a Monogram is a waste of time. Would someone please clarify the parameters?? At any rate here is what I've got so far. I'm pretty sure the Camaro will be silver with a black interior.![]()

Hi Les, I've pm'ed Andy to clarify, normally GB's are Revell kits but with Revell now owning the Monogram name I think a moderators decision would be usefull. |

I've PMd Peebeep to ask for his opinion but now that I've seen the box it may not be eligible . I think a Revell/Monogram kit would be ok .....ill let you know when Paul gets back to me . Andy |

I've not even got mine out of the packet yet. Taking my son to see Wigan v Sunderland tonight so try and make a start when we get in. Even though I'm a season ticket holder at Wigan I'll be whispering "Ha'way the lads" under my breath. John |

That's interesting how the exhaust and the rear axel are all one piece.
