Great choice, are you going with after market decals/scheme? |

I tend to build OOB and not use after market items as they usually cost more than the kit. If a kit needs to be improved I like to scratch build items, usually out of household bits and pieces. (I think I watched too much Blue Peter as a kid) First look at the kit, it is quite basic with only 39 parts: ![]() The engraved panel lines are very fine, so I will have to be careful with the paint: ![]() Nice instruction sheet, and full page painting/decal guide is nice: ![]() ![]() I will be going with the "Black Sea Aviation Unit" option, as per the box top. |

Good luck, that paint scheme looks novel. |

Started as usual with painting the interior:![]() There seems to have been many discussions on the correct interior colour for early MiG's, so went with "Chip Blue". Had a bit fun painting the seat, as it in no way represents the one's seen in research: ![]() The wings need a bit of attention. This is possibly a remold, and the old names have been covered over so much that the wings don't fit together properly ![]() Out with the sanding sticks.... |

The fuselage has gone together quite well, just needs a little touching up on the bottom. I wasn't happy with the intakes for the oil coolers so I am drilling them out a bit:

Construction is now complete:![]() Quite a good fit for the wings, with just a slither of filler required. Next up, painting... |

Painting coming along nicely:![]() Now I need to decide how to put the faint charcoal lines on, paintbrush may be too heavy, and I am not overly confident at thin lines with the airbrush. Plenty of time to practice though.

The tooling originates from a company called Cap Croix du Sud, it's also appeared in Italeri, Zvezda and Encore boxes. peebeep |

Thin paint, low pressure and a steady hand are called for. Looking very nice so far, you're certainly getting the most out of the plastic!

Great idea and it put a thought in my head.....a carpenters pencil, soft lead so as not to scratch with a wide and flat tip: ![]() I have also applied a coat of matt varnish in preparation for the decals... |

Finished:![]() ![]() The decals behaved really well. I used Humbrol decalFix for the first time and I must say the results are quite impressive. It has had a wash to try and bring out the panel lines, but as I thought they are so fine that it doesn't show up too well. Also added exhaust stains using pastel dust. The more I look at it the more I dislike the weathering effect so I may, once time allows, remove it. Glad I used pastels.
