I'll be attempting the recent re-release of the 1:48 Mig 25 in Russian markings. |

In preparation to the kick off of this GB tomorrow, this is the kit I will be making:![]() This is the re-release of the Mig 25 Foxbat in 1:48 scale re-issued in 2012. The kit dates back to the 70's. I have to say there are a number of ways it differs from the normal Revell fare. Firstly the box is top opening which is a plus in my book as I have no liking for the side opening boxes the kits normally come in, as you can see there is also a cardboard re-enforcement to prevent crushing. Then there are the instructions: ![]() ![]() Here’s the second variation, it’s printed on normal paper with clear and concise instructions with individual pieces being identified by number and description. Colours are quoted in FS and Testor colours not in Revell. The kit itself is contained on 4 large sprues in quite hard light grey plastic. There is some flash on the gates themselves but thankfully not much on the parts: ![]() ![]() As stated earlier this is re-release of a 70’s kit so it’s raised panel lines, and only minimum detailing in the wheel wells, intakes, exhausts and cockpit. There is one clear sprue and decals are provided for two machines, an overall grey Mig 25 RB of 102 Squadron, Indian Air Force 1985 and a camouflaged Mig 25 RBK, Red 38, ORAP (Independent Recce Aviation Regiment), Wernneuchen, Brandenburg, Germany 1990. Now I do not have plans to compare dimensions etc but after a little research on the web, it does appear to be a decent depiction of a Foxbat, but the nose appears to be incorrect for a reconnaissance machine, the profile is more akin to the interceptor version. Moreover it comes with a full missile load, which I am not aware the recce planes carried. So I’ll start it and have a think about how I’m going to finish it over the next few days but I’m thinking an interceptor at the moment. Edited by Johni044, Aug 15 2017, 03:36 PM.

It's a decent sized lump of plastic but not that complicated, after an hour I've got:![]() Plus the cockpit well sides etc painted in a made up blue colour which I hope is close to the original. Only issue so far is the sprue connections are suitably agricultural in size. A lot to trim off after removing the parts. Edited by Johni044, Aug 15 2017, 03:36 PM.

What a beast of an aircraft! It looks massive when comparing the cockpit to the overall length. Coming along brilliant, John.

Indeed, ordered some Begemont decals from Hannants then I'll decide what scheme to do. |

Love the Foxbat John the boxing is different because its a Revell USA import ...aka Monogram-esque regards the instructions etc. The He 111 , B-29 and cant remember the other kits , got re issued last year. The MiG-25 in 72nd is a decent size kit but this must be huge in 48th ! What are the colour callouts for that nice looking German cammo one ? Andy |

It's not actually German but Soviet operating in Germanyin 1990, Red 38 of the ORAP and the callouts are: FS30227 FS30219 FS36320 Not a Revell code in sight. I was considering that scheme but don't believe the nose is right for a recce version and all Revell seem to have done is include some decals for the camera ports and electric panels. Still thinking about Victor Balenko's machine from 1976 however that one was on an unarmed training flight and I think it would look more aggresive with the Acrids in place. |

Made a decision, I'm going with Viktor's machine and filled in the pylon homes in the wing. |

Just trying to get over the frustrations of trying to get the transparencies on an Airfix Blenheim. The Bat is filled, will try and get it sanded tonight. Thanks for the push.

Been busy on other things but now made a start on sanding the Foxbat back, I am going to need to get a couple of paints I'm short of after checking the RS numbers (ain't it always the case).

I know this doesn't look that much further forward but the filler is now sanded back so hopefully get some paint on tomorrow.![]() On the subject of paint, the AM decals state FS26073, now I'm stumped as I can't find this colour or it's equivalent on any charts, Think I'm going for Gull Grey Hu129 unless anyone has a closer Humbrol paint to use. Not that it makes much of a difference, but Urbans color charts suggest 127 us ghost grey and 140 dark gull grey for MiG 25s. The fs no. Really is a mystery though Nice to see this build moving again

Done something different with it. I was having issues with the HU164 I was brushing onto the Canberra so I broke out the airbrush as sprayed it instead. As it was out I darkened the grey with some HU33 and did some pre shading on the Foxbat, May have gone OTT bit I reckon you don't see many pictures of pristeen Foxbats. Took some pictures which I will hopefully download this afternoon, planning on getting the main coat done tonight |
