Upon opening the box I discovered two complete kits [ making room in the stash, you know]... This is a Revell of G.B. kit circa 1970. Kit # H-635. CRANBORNE RD., POTTERS BAR, HERTS.

These kits were bought in Bremerhaven, West Germany while I was in the USN. Only 2.25 DM at the time....

So, I plan to build two I-16's and will use decals from the more recent ICM kit # 72071..

I have built this a/c using the Revell markings, this bulld completed in the early 1980's....

One of my favourite WWII fighters. I've built the ICM kit, it'll be interesting to see how the Revell goes together.

Got some trimming and interior painting done today...compared to the ICM kit the Revell kit has fewer parts...the vintage 1970's plastic is crisply molded with very little flash and only minor sink marks...some filler is going to be needed....I'm building these two pretty much OOB with using the ICM decals...I'm in the process of drilling out the exhaust stacks...[ tiny holes to be sure...]
:woo: pictures later :woo:

Well, some little progress made. The white rectangles on the wing assemblies are styrene shims to get the fusalage to sit correctly..I've painted some parts with the underside blue...

Some additional sanding on the leading edges and removal of the seams on the wheels...some additional detailing needed on the pilot figures and then some filler on a few sink marks on the tails....

THANKS, T.M. ....! :woo:

Since that last pic I've glued the fusalage halves togeather for both kits...got the wheels ready for painting...and begun smoothing out some filler on the few sink marks present on the tail surfaces....I plan to fill in the "large" notch on the fusalage for the windscreen placement..

Once the final pilot detailing is done I will install the pilots on their seats then join the wing assembly with the fusalage,....

Well Commie Cornucopia fans, looks like this build is going into extra innings...some progress made with one of the "twins" getting the wing assembly glued to the fusalage. Pilots are in place, more assembly and filling/sanding needed....then it's on to the painting/decaling :woo:
