I did a review of the kit some time ago here

Looking forward to making something from more recent mouldings, instructions seem a little cluttered though.

Made a start on the Halifax last night, just priming/painting on the sprue at the moment, lots of nice detail, inaccurate detail but well molded inaccurate detail.

Some pictures tonight.

Got some glue on tonight starting with the office.

To be honest, to try and stop misaligned bulkheads etc, I dry fitted the main floor component and then placed the parts in the correct place then used a small amount of CVA and when cured removed the assembly and added some more superglue.

I then returned the assemble for a dry test fit to make sure everything lined up.

Looking to get a bit more done tomorrow.

I was reading a review of the excellent new Airfix Dambuster Lancaster last night. I was thinking about it this afternoon whilst continuing work on the Halifax, in particular decals included for maps on the Navigators table. :coolio:

Then the local free paper got delivered though the door ;) so out with the scalpel and metal ruler and a few seconds later:

More bodgergraph than Cartograph I know. :D

Never thought of news print. Have tried using tissue paper that comes with ceramics in a box. Very thin paper. Nice work.

The U/C bays have been assembled which was quite painless

Posted Image

The wing halves were joined and dry fitted to the wing spars and the fitted like a glove. Now this I found strange because when I had test fitted the parts I thought I was going to have to time the spars for being too thick. The undercarrage bay must have resolved this.

Now things start to get a little silly, the engines were fitted and you start to see where Mr Revell must have started to use inches rather than centimeters.

Quite a good fit though.

Now where had I seen an intake profile that that before :wicked:

Oh yes

Only a little bit filler needed along the main join and on the engines, hoping to get it sanded soon. Also got the tail assembly fitted and that went together very well.

Nice work there John ....looks quite a nice kit barring the engine troubles.

The fit is nigh on perfect Andy and I'm really enjoying the build so far, perhaps I could pretend it's an experimental Napier Saphire version. :hmm:

Just had to spend quite a bit time rectifying an issues caused by the instructions and my lack of using my brain. in the instructions the two versions are identified by the paint schemes, the MkI is stage 100 and the MkIII stage 101.

So if parts are optional they are normally marked either 100 or 101 next to the question mark symbol (not all though, the exhausts of which there are 4 options are marked optional but with no guide at all as to which relates to which mark,)

In stage 12 the fuselage is extended forward by fixing parts 36 and 38 to the fuselage - this is not marked as optional and so as you can see on the picture above this is what I did.

Carry on building and you get to stage 84 and then all of a sudden these parts have vanished and there the clear bomb aimers window and front turret housing to install there :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :tif: :tif: :tease:

So out with the scalpel last night and some judicious and careful cutting with a new blade resulted in the parts I fitted the day before coming off and the clear parts installed.

It's at this time my Contacta liquid cement decided to spurt out of the applicator - but that's another story.

Looking good from here. :thumb: I don't envy you when it comes to masking that greenhouse though. :fp:

Cheers, I've masked the cockpit area but the rest I'm trying freehand. Looks a bit ropey at the moment but hopefully masking off the camouflage and a couple of coats of black will tidy it up.

A couple of coats of Hu33, the canopy masks removed and a coat of gloss varnish and it looks a bit better.

Masked the de-icing boots last night, try and get a couple of coats of Hu24 on tonight.

I will be matt varnishing but by brush as was the gloss, and the canopy has not been gloss varnished so I'm hoping it will be ok.

Cheers
