04295 is the new tool kit. I'm reliably informed that the new Airfix kit will blow all previous kits into the weeds, but given that it will be significantly more expensive than the Revell and seeing that this kit has quite a bit going for it, it shouldn't be written off.

I don't know, but there's a fair bit of plastic:

After an enjoyable week in Athens (I'd forgotten what is was like to be in the warm sun), I made a start.
I assembled all the cockpit interior before any painting, although I would recommend adding the instrument panel decal first so any excess overlap can be trimmed:

Most of this cockpit detail is lost when the fuselage is closed up, however, it's fun to do!
The rear-most panel has 2 decals but I don't think it's worth using them:

See what I mean?

Wings were attached and left clamped overnight:

I like to crew all my aircraft so I'll be asking for some volunteers from this lot:

Paints used so far, all enamels, brush painted:
Interiors - Hu78 Green and Rv08 Black (acrylic)
Seats - Hu26 Olive Brown
Table - Hu62 Leather
Fuselage instrument panels - Hu79 Tank Grey
Instrument panel details - Hu56 Aluminium

Everything has gone together smoothly, hardly any flash to deal with; I'm enjoying this! :thumb:

Simon. :cat:

Thanks, you can definitely have some fun with the office on this one:

But I've now hit the buffers with a problem that's held me up for a day, the instructions show that the wing interior supports (parts 94) fit flush with the lower wing top:
Posted Image

Which way round the struts go can be interpreted 2 ways, this must be wrong:
Posted Image

And this is right (I think):
Posted Image

However, as you can see it juts above the wing surface top which forces the nacelles to perch on top of them.
The nacelles do fit flush with the wing when the struts are removed, so it seems the struts are too big.
I've not seen this problem highlighted before so has anyone built this and can see anything I've done obviously wrong?

Cheers,
Simon. :cat:

Strange, not made it yet, as the wing most likely tapers have you got them on the correct side?

Just dry fitted mine to see and ignore the last remark. Mine does sit flush, if you look at price 94 you will see that there is a notch cut into one corner, this needs fits next to the leading edge of the rear of the U/C bay and allows for the bulkhead part 85 to fit to it.

Looking at your photo's it's still not the right way round.

If you want I can post a picture this evening.

I've seen references to the issue with the undercarriage bay parts before, although I've not built one myself, somebody who has might be able to chip in. It seems that although the parts look identical, they are not, plus they are handed and must be fitted/located by part number as shown on the instruction sheet.

You might find Ted Taylor's notes helpful for this build, over at his Modelworks pages.

Thanks for the quick response and link :thumb:
I've tried all the struts on each wing in both positions and they still won't fit, I suspect it's something I've (not) done as all the parts so far slot perfectly into place.:wall:
I'll leave it for a while and hope someone pops up with an idea (or two), there's plenty of other things to get on with, like my favourite part of kit-building; the canopy :woo:

The parts I was looking at are from the normal Mk I/III version but I beleive he parts in question are the same, as Paul says it may be an issue with some of the kits. The only other issue I can see which may affect it is if the part is resting on the raised rib detail rather than fitting into the wing.

Other than that the part is going to need some surgery as it's a bit of a show stopper considering the other buts that attach to it.

On mine there are 4 of the same part. Have you tried dry fitting the others ?

Surgery it needed so surgery it got, the top one is untouched: :hammer:

Progress to date, pretty much all ready for the paint shop:

With the exception of the aforementioned internal struts, all the other parts have fitted together very well. :thumb:

Some progress...
I wanted to get the exterior painting done before sealing the fuselage to avoid having to mask off all the windows.
So, I airbrushed nearly everything black (Rv08), then masked off the lower part of the fuselage for for the brown (Rv82).
I then blew up the scan of the camo pattern and used that to mask off for the green (RV68):

The result:

I used Klear over each different colour as it gives some protection from scratches and paint bleeding through the masking tape.
Just some touch ups to do before the main assembly, then it should start looking like a Lancaster.
