This is probably just me showing my complete ignorance of all things WWI, but I assume this aircraft did operate over Germany and not just France?

Well, it was most likely mfg. in Germany....and flew thru German airspace on it's way to the front.... however, some research could ID the actual aerodromes used............by the Red Baron..??

hth,
ggc

P.S. The same question is applicable on WWI Allied types, did they penetrate into actual German airspace once they crossed over the trenches..???

I never thought of that ! most of the fighting probably beeing in northern France :) maby this is not a valid kit for this GB  let me know and I will switch kits.

Dr1's were manufactured at Fokker's factory in Schwerin Germany. After they became obsolete they were issued to German home defense units, but I doubt they were ever involved in combat, nonetheless there is linkage to the GB theme, albeit tenuous.

The only allied types that I can think of that are known to have penetrated German airspace during WWI are the Avro 504 and Handley Page O/400, only available in red boxes!

There's a part of me saying "This ain't right" but another part saying "So what?"

Overall, I think I'm happy to let this go, probably by letting the scope of the build expand (very) slightly to include aircraft manufactured in Germany during either World War. Does that seem reasonable? Any objections?

No objections at all, particularly given Paul's comments about them being issued to units in Germany.

A machine used in Germany would be no problem at all, even by the original GB definition, but I thought this was being completed as von Richthofen's nice red one.

GB guidelines for qualifying kits state: "2. The model must fit with the subject and bear markings and a paint scheme that is appropriate to the subject."

I'd like to see this one anyway, so go for it Iceman! :thumb:

Could "German airspace" not be defined as airspace over German occupied territory? :hmm:

In this case I'd say no, the original idea for the GB was to portray equipment used over Germany itself, or at least that's how I read it. I think we're prepared to be quite flexible, but if you allow too much pushing of the envelope with GB's you end up allowing just about anything and completely dilute the GB theme.

Finaly made a start :) cockpit finished and ready to join fuselages. Hope I will find some place for weight, no place under cockpit and behind cockpit is not forward enough.

Tamiya paint brushed on, floor RLM 02 and rest RLM 66.

showing my complete ignorance ...again.... I thougt the TA-154 had a cool wing shape  then looking at some pictures I noticed the kit have badly warped wings :(
When installing the engines I could correct the left wing, but not the right, even leaving a big gap (filled with putty) to force the wing up. I tried bending it and almost broke it. I then tried something for the first time, I heated the wing with running hot water, bending it, followed with cold water. I think I managed to get the wing "almost right" with this :)

Found out that the instructions says 50gr in each engine... I probably have 200gr in each with fishing weight and milliput ?? at least they are "heavy" :)
