Junkers Ju88 A-4

The Junkers Ju 88 was a German World War II Luftwaffe twin-engined multirole combat aircraft. Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke (JFM) designed the plane in the mid-1930s as a so-called Schnellbomber ("fast bomber") that would be too fast for fighters of its era to intercept. It suffered from a number of technical problems during later stages of its development and early operational roles, but became one of the most versatile combat aircraft of the war. Like a number of other Luftwaffe bombers, it served as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter, torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, heavy fighter and, during the closing stages of the conflict in Europe, as a flying bomb.

Despite its protracted development, the aircraft became one of the Luftwaffe's most important assets. The assembly line ran constantly from 1936 to 1945 and more than 16,000 Ju 88s were built in dozens of variants, more than any other twin-engine German aircraft of the period. Throughout production the basic structure of the aircraft remained unchanged.

Ju 88 A-4
Improved variant. Longer wingspan, due to redesigned wingtips. Stronger defensive armament. Power provided by Jumo 211 J-1 or J-2 engines (1410 hp)driving wooden bladed propellers. Reinforced undercarriage. Provision for four external bomb racks.
Ju 88 A-5.
This version actually predates the A-4. Earlier models of Ju 88 upgraded with longer wings and other equipment. Jumo 211B-1, G-1 or H-1 engines all rated at 1,200 hp for take-off.

Revell's latest 1/48 Ju88 is actually a reboxing of the recent excellent ICM kit. From the contents a nice rendition of this important aircraft is very well done and from the parts its possible to also go a long way to building an A-5 as well as you get both types (4 &5) of engine nacelle.
So without further ado here is what you get.

Conclusion.

Well there you have it. And in my humble opinion a really lovely kit of this aircraft. From the option to also build an A-5, the lovely satin finish of the plastic which gives better paint adhesion to the well printed decals. The supplied engines and opened access panels lend themselves to a diorama possibilty. I also like the fact that there are no moulded on seat belts to scrape off should you wish to use after market belts. As with all Revell kits you will need to source your own swastika for the tail but other than that this is a very welcome release.

Highly recommended.

Many thanks to Revell for the review sample.

That looks to be a cracking kit and another successful tie in with ICM (to go with the Do215 kits) .
Panel line detail looks top drawer :thumb:
