So here is my first (?) entry to the Star Spangled GB.
The Tomcat is one of my favourite aircraft (and for your info I liked it before 'that' films)
Having just finished one of the Trumpeter Tomcats it will be interesting to see how this older kit measures up. First released in 1981 ths boxing was re-released 1987 as opposed to the one I just finished which was first released in 2010.

So this one was purchased from Kingkit for less than half the price of the Trumpeter/Tamiya Tomcats. Time will tell if it is half the kit. ;)

Upon opening the box I found this collection of parts!

Here are some close ups of some of the main parts. Detail is engraved and is not to bad considering its age (36 years old)

Commendably thin intake walls.

Kit decals. You get a Lo-viz from Sundowners and a more colourful example based at NAS Mirimar, home of the Top Guns.

However as I have a thing for Jolly Rogers aircraft I will be using these for a Lo-viz one from 1994.

which will look like this, although this is AJ214

However, there is a bit of a problem with the Buno supplied.
As you can see the decal you get is 160382, the placement guide has it as 168419 whereas, according to the bible of Tomcatery (M.A.T.S.) AJ200 is actually 160381 which was lost at Goose Creek Island in 1994!!!

So the upshot of all that is that I will need to change the last digit to a 1.

I hope to start this next week and will be built alongside a 1/32 RAF Phantom I am also doing just now.

Just caught up with our progress Steve. It is building nicely.

I was very interested to see the issues with the decal sheet, glad it was easily sorted. I do note the CAG jet in the profile did not include the AJ letters on the outer fin. Will you be leaving them off?

Hi Ray,

Well spotted. Yes the AJ will not be beside the bones and I'll show you why.

This is from the same cruise and as you can see there is no AJ on the outer fin.

However in these two shots you can clearly see the AJ on the inner fin and that is where I'll be putting them.

Final coat of main colour on. I'll let this cure till tomorrow before I put any decals on. Still got the various missiles, seats and canopy to finish off.

Decalling done. That just leaves nav lights, seats, canopy and weapons to do.
