For the Star Spangled G.B. I'll be building the iconic Spirit of Saint Louis. Although this a/c has been issued before by many mfgs. and in a variety of scales, this 1/48 kit from Revell appears to be the most detailed model yet. it comes with two pilot figures, one sitting and one standing... I think most know about the first solo flight from the USA to France....

I take it judging by the birds age that the seats are wicker?

Nigel; yes, the seat was wicker. The kit seat frame is being modified to accept the resin 'wicker" seat.. I will post some pics of this process soon...

Thought so,by all accounts a very comfy seat for long journeys - wish Icelandair had then when I flew to Keflavik years back.

Nice progress. Good job on the seat. It's interesting to build a plane that is so highly documented.

Current state of engine assembly, sitting on front fuselage , modified seat assembly:
Posted Image

Note: The instructions show a vertical alignment for the cowing cover on the engine, but in reality, it only fits with the cowling piece rotated to the 3 o'clock position:

Close of correct assembly position:

Note the drawing showing the front cowling locator slot in a vertical alignment...

Nice work. That seat does not look comfortable. (Wicker and I usually don't work well together!) Looks like a great representation of the engine.

Thanks Johnnyb, I had hopped to do a better job on the seat mods.... :hmm: I'm chalking it up to a learning process.... B)

The engine is coming along....just thought I'd point out the instruction discrepancy ...

Yeah. Nice catch on that. I know from building Dragon armor kits to never trust the instructions!

Thanks guys, I continue to be amazed at the achievement that was made in this primitive A/C. No GPS on this trip.... :biggles:

Yeah. I sometimes forget how old this plane is. I think it may have something to do with the more modern look of the exterior. But then I would get inside and see the wicker seat and go ... uh oh!
