Finally found some time to make a start on this one...

First off, here's the box . . .

Posted Image

the bagged parts, instructions, and decals . . .

Posted Image

and the sprues .

Posted Image

I started by making up the lower hull . . .

Posted Image

Posted Image

then assembled the wheels, sprockets, idlers, and return rollers.

I will attach these to the hull sides, then I'll add the hull top.

That's all for now, stay tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Robin: Nice progress, perhaps you can "dirty" up the tracks and road wheels with some simulated dirt [ brown wash and earth tone pastel powders ]...

HTH,

That's coming together nicely. The tracks would look better with some weathering.

Thanks for the kind words, gents, but i don't do weathering, I'm strange that way . . . :$
I admire those with the skill and talent to produce a nicely weathered model, but it's not the effect that I'm looking for.
To me, a weathered model is the 3-D equivalent of a photograph; an image of a particular vehicle, in a particular place, at a particular moment in time.
I like to think of my models as a 3-D version of a blueprint, or 3-view drawing; this is what an (in this case) M24 Chaffee tank looks like in general, rather than this is what an individual M24 Chaffee tank of a specific unit, on a specific day of a particular battle, looked like . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Nice progress

I have painted flexible tracks before and had no issues with paint sticking, though I do spray them, I usually use Testors Metalisers on mine.

Thanks . . .
I thought I was 'out of the woods' with this build, and as I had some more downtime today, decided to put the decals on . . . however, the decals aren't in the box where they're supposed to be . . . :wall:
I've had a good look in the chaos that is my model making room, but so far, no joy.
So, once again, the build is on hold, at least for a little while while I see if they turn up. Otherwise, I'll have to get some Allied stars, unless anyone here has a spare decal sheet for this model?

cheers,
Robin.

Okay, just a brief update, I've ordered some replacement decals, just some generic Allied stars, now waiting for those to arrive. I'll have to look through my spare decals for some suitable reg. numbers, etc.
Of course, once I've got the replacements on and overcoated, the original decals are bound to show up . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Well, the replacement decals have arrived, Techmod sheet #72809, 'Allied Stars' . . . :D

I'm going to wait for a day or two, and have another good search for the kit decals, before I use these . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Okay, so the original decals haven't re-appeared, however, looking for some reg. numbers to use in addition to the stars, I found I had a decal sheet from an Academy GMC 'Deuce-and-a-Half' kit, that's going for a convrsion, so the decals won't be needed. I found the numbers I needed, but guess what, the stars on the shett were exactly the same size as the ones I bought! So I've used those . . .

They're 1/72 rather than 1/76, so they're a little bit big, but I don't think that matters, looking at photos, some of the markings applied to the real things weren't always 'regulation' . . . The decals are a bit 'thin', you can see the underlying colour a bit, if you look closely . . .
So, it's on to the detail painting now, put the turret on, put the .50 on the turret, matt coat, and this one's ready for duty . . .

Stay Tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

Thank you . . .
I'm just annoyed that it took so long to get it built. I had two more models lined up to be built in this GB . . . :wall:

cheers,
Robin.
