First, a bit of background. On July 4th 1984 'The King' Richard Petty achieved his 200th and final NASCAR Winston Cup victory when he won the Firecracker 400 at Daytona, narrowly beating Cale Yarborough. The race was also the first time that the US President had attended a NASCAR race as President Ronald Reagan flew in during the race after announcing 'Gentlemen, start your engines' from Air Force One.

Here are the box, sprues, decals and instructions.

Great choice! Everyone should have a Petty build in their collection.

Progress has been pretty quick on this one. I started off by sorting out the flash, ejector pin marks and seam lines on the roll cage and put it together.

Next the floor was sprayed blue and most of the interior parts added. The driver's anti slip floor mat was painted matt black. The suspension parts and fuel cell were also painted.

Finally for this update the engine has been built. The chrome parts were given a coat of matt varnish to tone down the shine.

More soon.

Thanks for the comments guys,

More progress. The suspension and engine have been fitted along with the wheels. The lettering on the tyres was done with a gel pen.

The roll cage was painted and detailed, after which it was attached to the floor pan. I also added the radiator.

Finally for this update I added the exhaust.

Just the body left to do now.
