Continuing my quest to build all of Airfix’s 1:24 aircraft kits, the next off the bench is this AV-8A built from one of the options in the GR3 release.

I made the kit as a GR1 in the mid 70’s and even though I only had a tube of Polly glue I managed to make everything work back them. Unfortunately in these recently released kits, the moulds are a lot more worn and the fit not as precise as I remember it.

That said, yes it needs a little effort, but I still think that the finished kit shows the purposeful yet graceful lines of the plane.

This was brush painted with Humbrol Enamels, Acrylics and Revell Aquacolors. Decals applied with the aid of Humbrol Decalfix, Humbrol Clear brushed on to apply and seal in the decals with a 50/50 Humbrol Aquacolor Gloss/Matt varnish brushed on to finish it.

It is virtually OOB with the exceptions of a piece of clear acetate cut to replace the solid plastic gun sight, and an exhaust nozzle linkage having to be fabricated to replace a missing part from the kit.
