Background

Built at the Royal Aircraft Factory this single seat bi-plane could achieve 209 km/h (130 mh). It entered service in mid-1917. About 5000 Scout Experimental were built.

The Kit

Posted Image

This is a re-pop of Eduards, YES i said Eduards excellent kit, and as such you get all the fine detail that comes with it

- Finely embossed surfaces
- Multi-part engine
- Mounted machine gun

The completed model is only 13 x 17cm but has a 104 part count

The Plastic

There sint much plastic even in 1/48 scale!!

Decals

The decals are printed in Italy and are in perfect register and sharp colour definition.

Instructions

Posted Image

The instructions are in full colour and detail the construction of the kit through 52!! stages which also includes 2 for the rigging!!

Two schemes are detailed:

- Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5a, No.24 Squadron, Royal AirForce, Cappy, France, September 1918
- Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5a, No.60 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Inchy, France, November 1918

Colour callouts are in Revell colours only of which two will require mixing.

Conclusions

Ok, what do i say, well this is a lovely looking kit and google provides a wealth of excellent builds from the Eduard kit. However im terrified!! rigging is something ive tried once many years ago and failed. The detail is mind boggling for the scale and the plastic is crisp

Id recomend this kit to anyone with a steady hand and patience

Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers.

I recommend you get some Uschi van der Rosten rigging thread, expensive but a single bobbin is likely to last a modelling lifetime. If not this, then any of the elastane type threads are the best way to go, used with CA and kicker.

I've seen the Eduard box contents and it really does look exquisite, the subsequent model built by a fellow club member is a little gem.
