![]() Sd.Kfz. 7 (Late Production) 1:72 Scale 03263 ![]() Background The Sd.Kfz.7 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug, "special purpose vehicle") was a half tracked vehicle developed for the German Army. Developed from 1934 and introduced in 1938, it was put to a number of uses during the conflict, chief amongst them was a tractor for the 88mm anti-Aircraft/Tank gun amongst others. However it was also adapted for anti-aircraft flak gun carriage and general transport. The Kit ![]() This base kit has be released several times by Revell since its introduction by Maco in 2011 as kit 7205. This version has 79 parts contained on five gates of light grey polystyrene fine raised and recessed details together with a 19cm x 2.5 cm strip of thin transparent plastic to cut the windscreen from. As will be seen from the sprues and instructions several parts are provided for other version (particularly gate C). The finished model will be 10.cm in length when complete and option for either covered or uncovered flatbed are catered for as is versions with or without cabin doors. The Plastic Gate A ![]() ![]() Some exquisite detail on these parts, however on my kit, the fuel tank part 3 has a sink mark in it which will need some filling and sanding. Gate B ![]() ![]() The tracks, well after building up the tracks on the Panzer III, here is another way of doing them, bending them around the drive train. I will leave any assessment of this method until after I have done it. Detail on the link is very good though. Gate C ![]() ![]() Lots for the spares box off this one, this version only requires the engine cover and side grills from this gate, although most of the pieces for a gun tractor appear to be here. Gate H ![]() ![]() Gate I ![]() ![]() Gate J ![]() ![]() In Detail ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The sink mark mentioned earlier. ![]() Decals Decals are restricted to instruments dials and number plates, however they are in perfect register and good colour density. ![]() Instructions ![]() The full colour instructions cover the assembly in 26 stages plus two of painting and detailing. Paint callouts are Revell only, namely: 16 Sand 09 Anthracite 05 White 89 Beige 91 Iron 90 Silver 08 Black 31 Fiery Red Link to Instructions Conclusions Revell market this kit as a skill level 4 which given the relatively high parts counts in such a small model seems quite reasonable. The detail on the parts given the size looks very good to my limited experience of armour in this scale, in particular the texturing on the canvas parts looks a good start for more extensive weathering. A kit I can strongly recommend to small-scale military vehicle aficionados. Many thanks to Revell for the review sample. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers.
