The world’s first Cantilever single engined monoplane fighter with retractable undercarriage, quite a pugnacious little beast by all accounts Andy.

After the decals settled down I bedded them in by giving the complete airframe a coat of matt varnish, followed by a dark wash, as I wanted a painted aluminium finish rather than a NMF one.

A distinctive item of the plane, which is not mentioned in the instructions, is the polished metal ring at the front of the engine cowls. After masking I tried a Molotow chrome pen on the ring and apart from a little seepage under the tape I am very impressed with the product, I also used it on the U/C oleo.

I then moved onto the U/C themselves and again I deviated from the instructions which tell you to attach the U/C bay doors to the legs prior to assembly, I didn’t like that idea so fitted the U/C legs in place before then attaching the doors, this seemed to work fine and is the process I would recommend.

Another thing not mentioned in the instructions is the U/C retract mechanism. The wheels on this plane were hand cranked shut (37 turns on a handle in the cockpit) and this was accomplished by a line which ran from the U/C bay to the U/C wheel axle, I will be looking to replicate this somehow on the model.

A few little bits and pieces to add then it will be complete.
