![]() Horch 108 Type 40 1:35 Scale 023271 ![]() Background Designed by the Horch Company to German ministry specifications in 1937 the 108 was a four-wheel drive staff car used during the early stages of WWII. In all 8135 were produced between 1937 and 1942. Whilst possessing good cross-country performance they were neither exceptionally reliable nor robust. When they continued in service but were gradually replaced with the more reliable and better known Kubelwagen from 1940 until the wars end. The Type 40 was a development of the initial design with the spare wheel being carried internally rather than mounted externally. The Kit ![]() The kit comes in the standard end opening box with the 211 parts being held on 6 gates of quite rigid grey plastic plus one of clear parts and a set of 5 hard vinyl tyres. Inspection of the parts show that they are free from flash, nor can I see any burring on the parts either, there are some small faint ejection pin marks but these appear to be on internal or surfaces that will not be seen when the kit is built up. Please take care as unpacking the kit. As you will see from the sprue shots, some if the moulding is very fine and one piece had become detached and part of the suspension linkage on part 73 had snapped. The parts themselves display exceptional detail, both raised and recessed where appropriate. Whilst the attachment points are not overly large, the parts are that fine in places then removing them from the gates without damaging them could be the hardest part of making this kit Features: Detailed engine Authentic interior Open canopy Intricate components Markings for two vehicles. The Plastic Ok so what’s it like: Gate A Contains mainly engine, chassis and running gear. ![]() ![]() Gate B Body tub and panels ![]() ![]() Gate C1 More external pieces. ![]() ![]() Gate D Exhausts, ancillaries and equipment. ![]() ![]() Gate E(x2) ![]() Gate F (Transparencies) and Tyres ![]() In Detail Next up, some close up of some of the parts, these are only representative but I hope they will give you a taster of the exceptional mouldings contained in this kit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Decals ![]() Decals are printed in Italy and are in perfect register and good colour saturation. Of note is the separate decals for the instrument panel. Markings are provided for two vehicles: 13 panzerdivision, Heres-Flak-Artillerie-Abteilung 271 Russia 1943. 4 Panzer Division, Belarus, Summer 1944. Instructions ![]() The 59 stages plus 2 of painting and markings are detailed in all colour 28-page instruction booklet. An amendment sheet for stage 5 is included due to a part numbering error contained in the instructions. Colour callout are in Revell paints only of which 4 will need mixing, so you would need to convert to your preferred brand and conversion details are available online from various sites. Link to Instructions Conclusions This kit has been given a skill rating of 5 (Highest) by Revell and given the complexity and number of small fine parts I think this is a ratting I would agree with. From looking at the parts in the box I cannot fail to be impressed by it and I will update the review once it has been made with my experiences of building it. Whilst it is a first rate kit I would recommend, there are a couple of things which would have improved it. Firstly the front wheels can only be made posed straight ahead, having the ability to display them turned could have produced a more dynamic pose, and the engine cover cannot be hinged at the top so the engine cannot be displayed. I’m sure of these are not insurmountable issues for an experienced builder. Again a kit, which I would thoroughly recommend. Many thanks to Revell for the review sample. Some super detail in that Some of the finer parts seem to have fairly large attachment points so maybe the need for a razor saw or very careful removal with a sharp blade . Thanks for the review John . Andy Edited by DH764, May 5 2018, 12:30 PM.

I've got a couple of sets of PE razor saws that can fit to either a Swann-Morton handle, or an Xacto type handle. They're ideal for removing delicate parts without breakage. |
